What a horrible post. At least the last sentence rectified it a bit.

The majority of pro's are on 2+2 in some capacity, so to think that 2+2 is going to be that low of the player base is way off -- unless you think 99% of the players are going to be fish.

As for everybody being unhappy -- I mean yeah, with every decision, at least somebody else will be left unhappy, but dealing with a few stubborn people doesn't mean they shouldn't make an effort to communicate with their core customer base and see what their preferences are. The communication in the MGM thread a few years ago was quite positive and everybody appreciated it.

Heh, I know what you mean--about the last sentence thing, lol. Right back at ya.

Delighted to hear it went well in the MGM thread...but yeah, I *do* think the fish are 99% of the market up there.

I agree that it would be difficult for the wrong Poker Rep but we saw first hand in the MGM National Harbor thread prior to opening how awesome Johnny Grooms was in not only communicating with the reg/pro player base from 2+2 but also in actively listening to AND incorporating the suggestions being made. If done right, a rep posting here in the manner Johnny did would be a tremendous service to their customers.

Currently, yeah probably. I assure you there will be a massive influx of pro's moving there for the casino, as they did for MGM.

Re: Encore Boston Hype Thread (Everett, MA)

The Encore Boston Twitter account highlights a lot of good stuff they're doing for the surrounding neighbors as well as some of the technology and services they have at their disposal for stuff like uniforms, etc... From everything I can see on the public side and as a customer who has visited the Las Vegas location many times and I know of many people who have gone to the Macau location, they're a pretty well run place lacking some of usual logistical and administrative problems.

Hopefully they won't be going through what MGM and Caesars has already started with all the layoffs and cutbacks.

A bunch of people I know who would never visit a casino because they don't gamble and don't care for anything casino related are excited about stuff like the buffet, shows, and the possibility of walking over to the Assembly Row outlets/mall area.

Absolutely this,

I remember specifically we were able to influence Johnny to cap the 5/10 NL to $2500 versus his original plan to have it be an uncapped game.
We justified that we needed a higher buy in than 2/5's $1000, but have a middle ground between an uncapped buy in game (that is now 10/25) for the room.

Re: Encore Boston Hype Thread (Everett, MA)

Second hand from a friend of mine who is hired to deal there; the opening date is set at 6-24 with dealers reporting 6-3. And there are no plans to run any tournaments in the near future. Also they are still hiring dealers.

My guess is that having a monopoly the rake will not be cheap. Why would it be? I don't think there will be to many out of owner's that stay for very long because of the high cost of living and the traffic nightmare. And who wants to be in Boston in the winter.

Re: Encore Boston Hype Thread (Everett, MA)

I was down at Foxwoods this past weekend playing the $600 tourney with a 600k guarantee that got close to a million and 152k for first and spoke to a lot of people.

Mohegan downsized their poker room from like 35 to 20 tables and moved it to a different place in the hotel. Foxwoods is downsizing their poker room from like 95 tables to 60 and moving it out of the basement next to the tournament area.

It seems that the young dealers who are good plan on applying to Encore and trying to get jobs there and will decide on moving to south of Boston where the rents are not astronomical. The dealers who have families and don't want to relocate won't be doing that but it might actually work out staff wise because with the downsize some would have to be layed off but if enough go to Encore they won't have a problem.

Most people seem to think that once the Encore pays off everyone asking for a hand out like the MA Gaming Commission, people who are suing, everyone crying foul, etc... they will be able to open on time. I hope so.

Re: Encore Boston Hype Thread (Everett, MA)

Pierre's numbers are a little off !!
Mohegan has already opened the new room in the Hall of Lost Tribes (Next to the Racebook) it has 35 tables from 42....and room for more if needed.
Foxwoods will be moving upstairs next to the Hard Rock and will have 65 live tables and AND a tournament area.
Encore will open on time you can guarantee that... the Mass. Gaming Commission will never be allowed to take thousands of jobs away from hired new workers because of a political standoff. You are correct in stating Encore will pay the $$ then be approved. Welcome to politics in the Northeast.

Re: Encore Boston Hype Thread (Everett, MA)

Thanks for the correct numbers. This is just what I heard from the players and dealers during this past weekend. Glad Mohegan still has 35 and room for more and I did walk into the new cash game area at Foxwoods to look around (construction guys left the door wide open and there was no one in there over the weekend).

Is it true they're paying $ per month for leasing all these ShuffleMaster machines in the tables downstairs that are un-used all the time and going to 65 cash game tables will save them some $ not to mention just make it more convenient overall for the poker staff?

Yea, everyone just wants to be taken care of and it would be a PR disaster if things were being held up.

Re: Encore Boston Hype Thread (Everett, MA)

Foxwoods rack rate isn't too much different, maybe a *little* lower. But when logged in they are wayyyy cheaper. I don't play at any Wynn properties, but I wonder if they follow a similar method, where your player rating grants a lower rate.

I run so bad, I wouldn't get that ocean view, I'd get the Chelsea Produce Market view.

Re: Encore Boston Hype Thread (Everett, MA)

I have a Wynn Red Card that was opened many years ago and I have stayed at the Wynn a few times and played a little $50/hand Pai Gow or $25 hand black jack and some $10 craps in between poker sessions or when I was waiting for friends or doing social stuff like see a show or go to the buffet so I do not have much comps or play with them at all and the rates were the same for me whether I was logged in or not and I would be curious if pit/slot players with some Wynn play are getting better rates. I hear for opening night it is very unlikely the price will be any lower than $800+ after taxes/fees.

I'll be at WSOP in June so I won't be able to check this out but I do have a few buddies who will be there as soon as it opens and they can let me know how things are. If you book opening night it is non-refundable, none of that 48 or 72 hour before check in cancellation possible.

There is also news that the official review into the gaming license will not start until April 1st as they're reviewing all the info that they recently acquired from their investigation.

Any idea how long this investigation could take? They seem to be very committed to the June opening date. I'd hate to make accommodations to go there and not be able to play.

Re: Encore Boston Hype Thread (Everett, MA)

I am sure the Gaming Commission will just negotiate on the fine with them behind closed doors while the public stance is they're trying to revoke the license. Once Encore agrees to pay a huge fine (it was 20 mil in Vegas) they'll prob be ok. All legal experts I have asked said this stuff has no timeline, they can drag it out or settle after 2 weeks.
