Encore Boston Hype Thread (Everett, MA)

I know nothing of the poker plans here other than they will have a room... does anyone have any details?

- when will they open?
- how many tables?
- what games will be spread?

I canít find a thread with any detail on this but Iím guessing Iíll be reprimanded for posting this..

re: Encore Boston Hype Thread (Everett, MA)

From what I heard, 96 Tables.

I'm sure they will spread whatever is demanded....I expect big games with new player pools and people temporarily moving to play.

July 2019 I believe is the opening

lol reprimanded? The MA/NH rooms are discussed in the New England thread but there's nothing wrong with a Hype thread for the casino.

Can you change it to the correct name of Encore Boston Harbor? Reading this thread title is tilting me. Thanks.

Because you mentioned it, I'll take a shot at it.

When you started this thread, you should have done some minimal research and included that research in the original post above so that you didn't make a worthless post to kick off the thread.

Ha, I did google it and found 90% of the articles out there were from 2016 and a handful from 2017... without combing through pages of google, I didnít see much, if anything, from 2018. Was hoping for more recent news as I think updates/plans/timelines for previous poker rooms have seemed to fluctuate dramatically in the time leading up to opening. I donít think writing a book report should be a requisite for asking a question

Book report!? Certainly not.

A brief summary of what you found on your own to add something useful to the community and respect others' time? Certainly.

To anyone who know the area well, I could use some advice.

I was thinking of taking a trip down here for the weekend in September to check it out. If I was to stay in Boston, how easy/cost effective would it be to get here? I saw mention of ferries on their website without any concrete offerings, are there ferries that will be going there? Would I be better of staying closer and taking Ubers?

The orange line(subway) will have a stop, Assembly, that is somewhat close and can take Uber. Alledgedly a footbridge from Assembly Row (shops & restaurants area) to casino is potentially in works.

The ferries would bring right in but not sure their pickup or launch locations. I would imagine the airport, waterfront areas as 2 main sources.

Budget on where to stay will matter to you as well. Just know it will be very busy. Check Trivago when your closer to trip.

Also, itís not a bad Uber ride if you avoid rush hours. Right now itís 12 minutes, $13 Uber X from downtown Boston (south station) to the casino

You mean September of next year, right? It's opening (as of now) June 2019. The Orange Line to Assembly will get you close, but not right to the front door, it'd be another 5-10 min walk. The exact pathways from the train haven't been built so it's unclear what that walk will look like.

The Casino location is technically in the city of Everett. But it's right on the Charlestown(Boston) border.

That part of Metro Boston would be considered the North Shore.
For anyone coming for a short time, just to gamble/ play poker, I would strongly recommend finding a place to stay in either, Somerville, Chelsea, Revere, or any one of the adjacent North Shore neighborhoods and not in Boston itself.

How would people get there from those places? Transit, and cost of transit without having a car is my major concern.

Wow, you stumped me there. lol.
These are all the next towns over, or in words, the closest adjoining towns.
Dude, this is the U.S.A, not northern Europe where there's a bus or tram to every imaginable direction possible, every 10 minutes.

There is public transportation if you don't want to spend money on taxi or uber.

The reason why I recommended these towns is because, being a native, I know the traffic situation.

Boston's downtown and Boston traffic in general is pretty bad. We have 19th century steet infrastructure, design, for 21 century traffic.
I'm telling you 2 things. If you rent in or around the downtown area, you'll have to pay a fortune, so forget your poker profits.
You'll need, I'm guessing, half an hour drive, anyways, from downtown to the Casino. Which is , my guess, no further than 3 miles.

In rush hour traffic, from downtown to my house, which is about 5 miles from downtown, it has at times taken me over an hours drive.

In the North shore, I'm taking an educated guess, rents, airbnb's, hotels, motels will be cheaper. And, I'm guessing, when you're driving to the casino, most people will be driving in the opposite direction, away from Boston to home.

I think that's all the info I can provide. You'll have to do the rest of the homework.
And to think, I'm telling you all this and your coming hear to take my money, lol.

Nothing in/around the city is inexpensive unless youíre lucky enough to find it. If the cost of a car or local transit is a major concern for you perhaps going to a casino should not be your priority

re: Encore Boston Hype Thread (Everett, MA)

The La Quinta in Somerville ($100+/night) and AC Hotel in Medford ($200+/night) are both walking distance from Wellington on the Orange Line, this is the closest subway stop to Encore Boston Harbor.

It's a safe bet there will be shuttle service directly to the casino from Wellington Station. Where else Wynn decides to send shuttles to/from remains to be seen.

So my recommendation for the time being, to someone who wants to see some of downtown Boston along with having easy access to Encore, is to stay along the Orange Line, near Haymarket or Downtown Crossing. Possible something near the waterfront could be worth looking into as well, but you'd have to hazard a guess as to where in the harbor their boat service terminal will be: http://encorebostonharbor.com/the-ha...water-shuttle/

If really all you want to do is grind and be as close as is possible without paying whatever the casino is charging, then stay at one of the places mentioned above.

re: Encore Boston Hype Thread (Everett, MA)

I've never seen the words "recommendation" and "Orange Line" in the same sentence before. At rush hour the inbound trains are sometimes so overcrowded that people will take an outbound train ó for several stops! ó just so they have any hope of getting on a train going in what had been their prefered direction all along.

Meanwhile those "water shuttles" are perhaps going to be less like the Staten Island Ferry and more like semi-private yachts for high rollers.

Present day cheap hotels a few stone's throws away from the casino aren't going to stay that way a year from now either. Eventually demand might cause an uptick in supply, but the Encore itself is a testament to how crazy long it takes us to build anything around here. I suspect that lot of tourists are going to find early on that their best option will be... paying to stay at the Encore's hotel.

Ok, I wouldn't recommend taking the Orange Line from Wellington inbound during the AM rush hour, but obviously that isn't relevant to the question at hand...

The guy who is posting in this thread that he is concerned about transit costs is definitely going to prefer to stay at the La Quinta in order to save money over paying Encore's opening day rate. La Quinta will certainly be at least $100/night cheaper than whatever Encore is charging. Also if you want you can book rooms at the La Quinta now and cancel them for free later if you are really concerned about prices blowing up. A quick search shows that they'll let you lock in a $219/night rate right now for pretty much any dates you want in June/July 2019.

Public companies are held to a high standard by Wall St to not miss target dates. They have already announced a projected opening date of Monday, June 24th which of course "could" change but is appreciably more reliable than that of a private companies projection. In other words, I'd be locking up the dates around the 24th as opposed to any other window at least until other information becomes available.

For the record, just trying to figure out where it makes sense to stay based on how easy it will be to get there, and how much it will cost. Not looking for the cheapest options, I'd rather have ease of access. Which, at this point, seems like at the casino itself.

Do people have any experience getting comped rooms at Wynn or Encore in LV through poker play and have an idea on what it might take here?

Two completely different markets that aren't correlated so let's not complicated it. If there is ample room availability a casino/hotel will offer them to players based on their play to fill the rooms.....if the rooms are booked at full price and/or comped to whales, they won't be offering them to poker players for free.
