Only played there once. Looking for 1-2NL but all they had was 2-5. Loose, gambling players. All I had was $100 buy-in, but cashed out with $400+. Sorry don't know anything about tourney. If players are still loose, just sit tight.

Are they loose aggressive or loose passive?

I haven't played the tournament, but I think it's a $100+25 buy-in with a crappy structure. The room only has 4 tables, so you won't have more than 40 runners.

For years they only spread 2/5 NL, but are now spreading both 1/2NL and 2/5 NL. the room is only open from Thursday night (starting with the tournament) through Sunday. A typical Friday/Saturday will see either a 3-1 or 4-0 split between 1/2 and 2/5. They are militant about no iPods and no phones, so no listening to your music or texting while playing. The caliber of players is typical.

What's max buy-in on1/2?

Max buy-in for 1/2 in Metropolis is $300. If 2/5 is running (which is hit-or-miss and becoming more miss), that game is uncapped.

Anyone got an update on Metropolis? Moved to a new job about an hour and a half away, considering hitting it up one weekend if games are still running/decent.

I'd like an update as well. My wife's parents live there and I'm hoping to pay a visit soon..

Pretty much the same story as this past fall. Room open Thursday-Sunday, starting with the Thursday night donkament at 6PM. Only four tables in the room and it's pretty much a 1/2 NL room these days. The 2/5 rarely runs. Rake is 10% up to $5, no jackpot. If you are semi-decent at poker, you'll be fine.

Played there on Saturday & Sunday nights this weekend. The room relocated a few months ago from the 3rd (top) level to the 2nd (middle) level of the boat. They have 5 tables now. 1/2 NL is still the staple, with a $30-$300 buy-in range. I'm not sure if the min buy-in is new or if I just didn't notice before. I saw a few people buy in for short; none of them had any clue whatsoever of how to play a short stack.

They did get one table of 2/5 NL, uncapped, going yesterday. The level of play is the same as always: loose-passive, lots of people that think top pair can never be folded, and 3-bets rare and almost always indicative of a monster. If you raise to $10-$15 in early position, don't be shocked if 5 people call you.

Has anyone played in Metropolis in the past month since the room in Cape opened? I suspect that the room's pretty much dead now, but would be interested in a first-hand account.

I played in Metropolis this weekend for the first time since the room in Cape opened. CET decided for the first time ever that I could get a comped room on the weekend, rather than during the week when I work and the poker room is closed. Several other players reported similar stories, so I suspect business has been hurting and they are trying to lure past customers back.

I played Saturday night and Sunday afternoon. I had winning sessions both days. 3 1/2 games ran on Saturday, and 2 games on Sunday. I had to sit next to a ridiculously drunk and tilting toothless redneck for a while. He eventually got escorted away by security for being just too drunk. The crowd was mostly regulars--I think they've lost some to Cape but many are either loyal or just live too close. The games were pretty soft, as always.

I played here for the first time this past weekend. New players should be aware that the action is capped on the third raise (unless it is a heads up pot). Unfortunately, I discovered this after making a small 4-bet (holding AA) to induce a shove from LAG villain.

Otherwise, I enjoyed playing there. There were lots of friendly regs and not much in the way of angle-shooting or showdown slow-rolls. There were only two tables running for for the majority of the day on Saturday. A third table got started around 9-10 PM and lasted for maybe 2 hrs. All games were 1/2 NLHE. Low turnout was probably due to inclement weather.

Sunday game didn't get started until 11 AM and second game got going around 1 PM.

I used to live in this room, but haven't been in 6+ months. Anyone have an update on how many tables they've been running?

Usually 3-4 tables on a Friday or Saturday night. On Sundays, they usually get two tables going, but sometimes only one. I have only been once on a Thursday and I didn't get there until 2:00 AM. There was one table running until close (4:30 AM). Supposedly the Thursday night tournament fills up every week. I'm not sure if they run four or five tables for the tournament.

They have changed the max buy-in (up to 70% of the big stack).

Last time I was there there were rumors of getting some of their horrible rules changed (ie: no straddles allowed, 3-raise maximum, not being able to buy the button). It's only been a few weeks so I doubt anything has changed in this regard.

They are also supposed to move the poker room back to the third floor at some point (currently on second floor).

I was there on Friday night. The room has moved back to the 3rd floor from the 2nd floor, but little has changed besides the location. Same rules, same regulars, pretty much the same game conditions as I've reported before.

Had only 3 1/2 NL games going in the evening and this was "Superman" week in Metropolis. Disappointedly few comic book nerds found the poker room.

Oh, and I got to see the new max buy-in = 70% of deepest stack rule in action. I bought in for the old cap of $300. After a few hours an old regular showed up and wanted to buy-in for the max. The deepest stack at that moment was $575, so you have 70% of 500 is $350, 70% of 70 is $49, and 70% of $5 is $3.50, for $402.50, so he pulls out $400.

The usual floor was on break, so some random suit from the pit or somewhere was there. The dealer asks to verify that the $400 buy-in is OK and random suit says "No, max buy-in is $300". LOL, I hadn't been to the room in months and I knew the rule had been changed, but someone in a supervisory position didn't.

After he is finally convinced that there is a 70% rule, then he claims that 70% of the deepest stack is still less than $300. We talk him through the arithmetic; doesn't believe us. Some dude whips out his phone and punches it into a calculator app and shows him. Nope, we are still wrong. Finally old reg just buys in for $300 and then wins a couple of hands and gets to $400 or so anyways.

Regular floor returns from break and dumb suit leaves. We ask him and he's like "of course he could have bought in for $400". At least the regular floor was there the next time someone sat and wanted to use the 70% rule.

Pretty decent night last night by Metropolis standards. Four tables of 1-2 going, all well past midnight with 2 full tables still going at closing time (4:30 AM). Some action players were around, including one pretty good LAGgy guy with a big stack and an ultra-aggro style well suited to tilting crabby old men who responded to his play terribly.

I managed to not win a pot until 4 hours in my session (well, I should have won one hand but managed to stupidly muck best hand) and still booked a win at night's end.

Update: Was there on a Saturday night, 3 tables of $1/$2 going at the peak. A majority of the players are the same guys that are there every weekend.

A few changes to note. Live straddles are now allowed UTG, you can make it $5-$20. Before, any attempt to straddle was just a blind raise, that I referred to as the "Illinois straddle". Also, you can buy the button. They still have the stupid "3 raises max" rule like it's a limit game and you are still scolded like a naughty 7th grader if you dare to try look at your phone at the table.

I virtually never have the chance to go up on Thursday night for the weekly tournament. Apparently the turnout for it is getting weak and I heard from a dealer that they might restructure the tournament to have more play and allow rebuys or re-entries starting in January. I can't confirm if this is actually happening and what the new buy-in and structure will be.

Any updates on how the tournament there is going? thinking about trying to get up there for one, but I don't want to waste my time driving out if no one is registering. Also, does anyone know what the payout structure is? I'm sure it's player dependent, but any idea would be helpful.

Played a few days this weekend in Metropolis, including the tournament. The Thursday night tourney is still $125 buy-in, but has been restructured to be not quite as turbo-ish as in the past, including antes starting at Level 4 or 5. Starting stack now 5K with 25/50 blinds to start, 20 minute levels. It had 35 players the night I played, which is supposedly typical. Pays top 5 (I didn't cash) and takes about 5 hours. Still hardly a deep stack. Great action in the cash game after the tourney--unfortunately for me, it was a "great game, send more money" kind of session.

I did better on Friday & Saturday. A lot of the better younger regs went up to St. Louis for the WSOP circuit, so it was mainly the regular OMCs and terrible randoms in the games. Friday night had 3 games at peak, Saturday 4. Still haven't seen anything other than $1/$2 NL go in a LONG time.

Also, CET will be moving the gaming off the boat into the hotel's convention center. I'm pretty sure that space has less square footage and I don't know if this will affect the existence of the poker room.

I heard that they are trying to move everything off of the boat by December. They say that they might be bringing poker back to 7 days per week after the move.

I was here last month. The game has become $1 / $3, in case anyone reading this is expecting a $1 / $2 game. It does look like they are moving off the boat; some renovations going on in the hotel. Not sure about poker 7 days a week, though.
