I was outside on the smoking balcony and a woman in a group near me said in a raspy voice, "I can't believe they opened a casino in my home town Everett" .
I just thought to myself, Jesus, what a mo ran, it's just the most convenient location they could find to build a Boston casino!

If those are the people that Encore has to hire, then it's a tall task indeed!
Good luck Encore.

tbh, it's the same in all businesses. Hard to find competent people for any moderate and higher skill jobs.

Unemployment is way too low.

Things are looking up. Today a waitress placed a comp bottle of water in my cupholder. Haven’t had that happen since I left the ‘Woods.

I was exaggerating a bit. I'm more a South shore guy

The service is improving.
Encore is doing well. According to the Globe, made 65 million revenue since opening from slots and table games. Not sure if poker was included in those numbers.

In defense of promos, promo players are players that the casino wants. That's why they were targeted for the promos. Nobody should feel bad for redeeming a promo. (They can feel bad for the amount of money they lose while redeeming a promo, lol, but the fundamental job of the casino is to make losing money [mathematically inevitable] feel okay; ergo, promos.)

Based on my August experiences posted a few pages ago the service has not improved from what I saw.

Again, those numbers were from July and overall traffic is down considerably in August.

Hmm. Volume does seem to be down. Won't argue with that.

I think beverage service has improved. There is one server who brings me two of my choice drink even when she’s not my server.
Obviously, this is all perception and YMMV

I have; many times, and have heard many things, each one different from the last. They have every right to run their business as they see fit, but I would think Encore could at least be a little forthright and transparent and provide some minimal explanation on tournament plans. There is a big element in this region that is crazy about tournaments and I think they’d be making a mistake to ignore them, but please Encore, at least tell us something.

I don't think there is any question that the new car smell is gone from Encore. As of the moment, both Foxwoods and Encore have the same number of tables running. A month ago, Encore would have more tables running than Foxwoods, Mohegan and the MGM combined.

Couple of dealers yesterday said tourneys starting in September. Only low buy-ins ($100-$300 was the WAG) until they feel they can run them well.

Oh, and for those saying that everyone is running from Encore back to the old haunts - the Globe reported today that Twin is laying off 95 people due to the impact of Encore - that includes 65 card dealers. Those naysayers are obviously FOS trying to pretend they are supah smaht with connections. Whatever.

Went in before noon Friday, parked right next to the north elevators, got seated immediately for 1/3, drink service hit or miss (but no worse than my experience with FW or MS). Good table action - almost no *******s or nits. As someone who lives within 495, I can’t see why I would ever go back to RI or CT. Maybe Chasers ‘cause they run a great room and have roughly the same drive time.

Foxwoods is running a tournament series right now I think

Yup. Twin went from one to two 2/5 with no 5/10 in the month following Encore’s open to double the number of 2/5’s with 5/10 going again on most days while the rocks stay at Encore.

Referring primarily to poker and not the overall casino. Once again however, those who are actually there have confirmed that overall traffic has been down at Encore in August.

At this moment-- (Sat 9:00pm):

Encore... 61 tables running (no promos)

Foxwoods... 32 tables running (promo day: high hand + WSOP circuits running)

Mohegan... 21 tables running (promo day: high hand)

MGM... 16 tables running (promo day: let it ride???)

So ya, almost as many tables running at Encore as the other 3 combined, I think its safe to say that Encore is still the 800lb gorilla in the room.

PS for those that care: Chasers... 6 tables running (promo day: high hand $500/ hr)

I think there are some individuals who wish to Continue to pump up these crappy rooms in the hopes that eventually the players will go back there

it’s that plus a combination of telling them selves that all will be OK because they live further away from Boston compared to the other rooms etc but the reality is it’s encore or bust at this point. Just stop resisting

I'm confused why you're even here then. Why would you want to advertise all the great action at TR rather than keep it all to yourself?

You don't see me in the TR thread talking about the strip mall atmosphere, the grade D food and RMV level management.

Imagine thinking twin is a good place to play. It's easily the closest poker room to me, and I won't even step foot in that joint again.

If you notice his outlook flip flops back and forth. It’s probably based on how he’s running in each room. It also affords him the ability to say he was right no matter the outcome
