Has anybody played there recently on the weekends? Thinking about making a trip from Minneapolis to play some NL (getting bored with limit and spread limit), and just wondered what the games and players are like.

Any thoughts on how it compares to Turtle Lake?

Thanks for any input

I'm in the same boat as you from minneapolis. I quite going to dj on weekends.

They have lots of tables open on a saturday night maybe 6 or 7 -this is good

The majority of the dealers are bad 2/3 of the dealers have poor mechanics and are just not professional. - this is not good but I could live with a forest gump dealer.

General player play was loose passive except the easy to spot regs - this was also good

The floor was consistantly unreactive to my request to either move me or consolidate tables. This happened multiple times. This pissed me off so much. After a while I'd always get stuck at a short handed table with a bunch of regs. There are 6 other tables that are short handed and the floor has zero clue - bite me I'm still pissed.

Go to TL the dealers are good the floor is responsive, players are bad bluffers. In fact Tl floor is now ok to open a 2-5 game with a 1k cap we just need to get rob shane ts and others back in there damn it. .

Thanks for the info, vig - very useful. Sounds like a good game except for the floor. I wonder if they kept the short-handed tables going on purpose to collect more rake? Of course, last I heard the jackpot was huge - would be nice if that hit at a short-handed table.

I have been to TL once last summer, and it was a good experience all around despite losing a grand total of $66 - doh! I think I played with this "ts". Older (but not really old), gray hair, thin, generally pleasant guy?

How many tables does TL get going on a weekend? 3-4 would be enough, I suppose.

Right now yes TL will have 3 or 4 open.

If I give DJs another chance I am going to walk away for an hour or so if I get stuck short handed again.

Both places have pretty easy games.

One difference is that DJs plays 1-2 with red chips. Tis makes for a little more spewy splashy play.

Thanks very much, vig. Red chips at 1/2. That's crazy.

On the weekends there is usually a 2-5 game plus several 1-2 games.

Yes, the dealers (for the most part) suck and the floormen are unresponsive- but I'm sure it's hard to find good floors and dealers and keep them in such a small room.

The BBJ has not been hit for over a year and is at like 138k. It is Aces full of 10's beat by Aces Full of Jacks or better. Backup is well over 100k right now too.

As far as being great to hit it at a shorthanded table, it would not matter. It is not table share but rather room share. 40% loser, 20% winner, 40% room.

I like DJ a lot, I stopped going to TL once it opened because I was sick of the scummy regulars up there that soft played each other. DJ is great because they'll spread PLO and PLO8 and their rebuy tourney is super soft. Yeah it's true most of the dealers suck, but they have a juicy 2/5 game and you get a lot of people boozing it up while they are there. I've only had 2 losing sessions there since it opened, IMO it's pretty fishy.

Fishy 2/5 with abundant booze is good! I'm going to Vegas in a couple weeks and that's exactly what I will be looking for.

I went to TL once and didn't notice any soft playing amongst the regs (or at least those who I thought were regs). Sounds like you have more experience there than me, though. Not good.

Well I can tell you for certain you don't need to worry about soft playing amongst the regs at DJ, they actually go after each other quite a bit.

Yeah there are some real crazy people at DJ's. I one time had a crazy Asian go instant all in on a 77T flop, he had AK and I had A7. But yeah, they go after each other, and their rebuy tourney is even crazier. You have tards playing in that, that have no clue at all. I see they just added a new tourney on Sundays Holdem/Omaha dealers choice when you're on the button, I'm so making the trek!

Has the bad beat jackpot been hit over at Diamond Jo's yet??

Does Diamond Jo's spread a Om8 game? If so , what limits and how often do they get it.

For the orig. poster. You might look into CP new 'No Limit' thing

No. I was there yesterday, still ~140k.

Is the qualifier really AAATT beaten by AAAJJ+? I find that hard to believe, since Meskwaki's is AAATT beaten by quads and regularly goes off in the 20-30k range.

There was table talk about Diamond Jo's huge jackpot and they said it gets so big because almost all of the games are no-limit...I guess that makes some sense, but they spread limit games too don't they? I would think that there would be at least a limit game or 2 going with it that high...
What am I missing...or have they just been lucky (unlucky) that it has not been hit. Heading down that way next weekend...will have to play I guess.

I saw a map somewhere that seemed to indicate the Diamond Jo's was in Northwood but Google maps shows that it's right off of I-35, about 5 miles west of Northwood. Which is correct?

Yeah, I've been thinking about trying NL Survivor at Canterbury. Anybody played it? Since it's a tourney, I assume they use tourney chips, so I'm not sure how tipping works - obviously can't tip the tourney chips. I wonder if the rake includes $$ for the dealers?

Also, I did eventually make it to DJs for NL - *extremely* soft $1/2 games. The $2/5 game was a lot more aggressive, but I only played for an hour and a half. All in all, a pretty good place to play NL, I think. Thanks everyone for the information/advice.

Yikes, I can't imagine playing with 10 stacks of white and then 20 if you double up. Gimme $180 red and a stack of white and I'm happy at 1/2.

Interesting. Sounds like it maybe worth playing the 2/5$NL there on the weekends. I have been there once before did they have weird buy-in caps at all? Like what is the min//cap for 2/5$NL?

What is the poker room like at DJ? An actual room vs in the middle of a slot pit...etc. Comfortable, smokey?

Any and all details appreciated.

Its own room, no smoking allowed in the room, although smoking at the bar right next to the room is allowed.

Thinking about finally getting down there this weekend. If you see a 6'4" guy donking off his chips, it might well be me.

I will be down there this weekend. Probably play the Saturday tourney with my friend for fun and try to get some PLO, PLO8, 2/5 NL or some mixed games going.

I would estimate 95% of all cardrooms that spread 1-2 no limit use red chips.
SoCal being a notable exception where its a $40 buy-in.

edit: i actually enjoy playing with the yellow $2 chips at turtle lake, as i like towers and towers of chips. but thats because i'm primarily a limit holdem player.
