There was a dealer at one of them but the other 2 were locked down. I have a feeling a lot of people are in Hammond for the WSOP, but I don't think it's so many that they can't open 3 tables. They had two 2/5nl, two, 5/10nl and 7, 1/2nl on a Friday night

Two weeks ago, Greektown was still 1/2. They were running a bunch of 200max and were also trying to get 1/2 400max started. They said it was the first day, but it seems like a really stupid game to offer while also offering the other 1/2 game.

Re: Detroit Poker Thread

I played at the Hazel Park Raceway last night. So much dead money in that place, but it's pretty poorly ran.

Within 15mins I scooped $122 off the table and then cashed out to play the $35 Freeze-out. Nothing much happened for me in the tournament and I went out 10th in a 41-player pool (4 paying out).

I'd love to get back, but unfortunately their Happy Hour rake deal runs when nobody is playing. -I really wanted to play 100nl as their site said it runs, but when I got there, everyone was playing 200nl, shortstacked.

I'm almost debating playing shortstacked as their is still so much dead money out there. They're all so degenerate at that place, and the greedy, loud, cheating, obnoxious foreigners love to throw their money away.

The way I look at it, I'm getting my tax-money back from these people.

Re: Detroit Poker Thread

MGM always has 1/2 running w. max of $300. 2/5 games are quite common as well, but I haven't played it as of yet. From what I know the 2/5 is full of the same people except for at night and on the weekends. You can call the 877 MGM number and ask for the poker room and simply ask the manager what games are playing. Last night was their first tournament, but I wasn't there for that. Field is generally weak for the 1/2, but the 2/5 has some competent players.

They offer one table sit and gos all day m-th. They offer $60, $115, $220 w/ the payout being 70% first and 30% second. I don't know what the house takes, but I'm guessing it's pretty high.

Re: Detroit Poker Thread

i've played at motor city twice in the past couple of weeks. 1/2 one night, and 2/5 the other night. games seem to be alright, a few people i seems to see playing all night while being really nitty and bad so i dunno why they'd be doing that in a room that doesn't have comps but w/e.

Are you allowed to bring food into MGM and/or MC? - That's a huge downside for me at the charity rooms. Powerlifting is my other big hobby, and I try to eat a lot of clean, healthy food. I'm always having to take breaks to go out to my truck and eat ever couple of hours.

Maybe you need to go sleeveless so no one bothers you when you wheel in the cooler full of boiled chicken breasts?

At one point I asked and they were disallowed. This was last year sometime. A few times over the last 5 months, however I have noticed guys bringing in bags of some sort so I think they relaxed their policy at MC. One has a man purse...er a satchel...and another one has the smallest backpack ever w/ really just the one opening. It's really just a bag w/ straps to throw over both shoulders.

Whether or not you can bring food I don't know, but again at the time of the no backpack rule you couldn't bring food either. I have a big leather coat and sometimes I put a sandwich in the pocket and have been known for bringing apples and bananas and powerbars years before MC starting giving bananas and apples out, but those are always stowed in my coat.

I'd be interested to know if you can bring food or not, but my guess is no.

You are probably right...as much as I've liked playing there when I am in town, they have really random rules and are so so nitty in enforcing them, yet if you create some semi-passable loophole, they'll allow it. I was playing 5/10/25 short one day in the back of the room and a friend wanted to watch me for a while and within 90 seconds of her sitting next to me, the floor made a beeline to the game to enforce the apparent no sweaters policy. Understandable policy, but kind of silly to nazi enforce it when every single player at the table said they didn't mind it, the tables around us were empty, and I also made it perfectly clear I would quit the game, likely breaking it (I have a nice image in Detroit). They still wouldn't budge. I was about to rack up when in a stroke of inspiration, I placed the minimum buyin in front of her, tossed the dealer $10 or whatever it was for her time charge, and told the floor she was taking the open seat and asked the dealer to deal around her. The floor thought silently for 15 seconds and walked away.

So, maybe no backpacks....but like otter...bring a large jacket and hide clean food and I doubt anyone will pull the food out of your mouth or interrogate you as to its whereabouts. If interrogated claim it as leftovers from one of their restaurants. EZ game

Re: Detroit Poker Thread

I tend to go with lean beef sticks or a homeade high-protein quiche when I play. I only get hassled about eating my own food when I'm at a charity room. I always bring my backpack with me when I play. Normal sized Jansport bag.

Why worry about it if it's not hurting your profitability? Doesn't seem to be a big issue overall. I don't know if I'd change one single thing about poker in Detroit. Action is butter-soft, so why change anything?

You don't think slow dealers, bad floors and total diffusion of games hurts your profitability?

Eh, well there, yes, but not when it comes to if a player can sweat you or not or if you can carry a backpack around.

I haven't had much trouble at all other than at some charity rooms and you can't expect much there.

I think some of the dealers at certain charity rooms are much faster than the ones at the casino. I swear it seems the casino dealers get 15 hands/hr.

In one of the rooms I play, there are 2 dealers that I'm sure average 30-35.

Which room? - The absolute worst room I've been to (as far as dealers go) so far is The Pub.
