Re: Detroit Poker Thread

Yea I mean honestly Gary was probably a total guess. forget about that.

I remember him saying he played both in AZ and Detroit. Do you know if there are 75-150 games in AZ? And are you sure there are none in detroit?

Re: Detroit Poker Thread

100% sure nothing like that has ever run in Detroit casinos and I'm 90% sure it hasn't been spread in any home games. I guess it's always possible that a small group of people play that game, but I think I would have heard about that at some point. Actually now that I think about it I know there is a Chaldean group that plays really big from what I've heard and I have heard talk of 15-20k pots. I don't know what stakes it is. It's been about a year since I have heard about this game and I don't know anything else about it other than some guys get together and gamble. The guy I'm thinking you're asking about may have been Chaldean

While I'm throwing around statistics ;-) I can say that I am fairly positive that AZ has 75/150 limit, but not nl...I'll give that 65% :-) and unless they changed the laws there isn't any nl in AZ.

Re: Detroit Poker Thread

Played at Greektown again last night and had another huge night. I have to say that I ran really good, but it was just what I needed to get my bankroll ready to take a shot at the $2/$5 at Motor City.

There were like three guys who were at the table that I thought might be 2+2ers, but when I used the standard "sup bro" all I got was "not much," with no smile of recognition. One guy actually smiled like he knew what I was talking about, but he also later on did not seem like he was in the know. Is there some Detroit version of the greeting that I should know about? What is the appropriate response when you get the sup bro? Sup bro back, right?

Anyway, since I haven't played at MC in a while, was wondering if the regs there could give me any advice on what night of the week might be the best one to get my feet wet at the 2/5 game there. Do you find the play much different than the 1/2 game, or much of the same just players with bigger stacks? I would imagine with the room's visibility into the casino floor (unlike the other two casinos in town) there is a higher rate of recreational players sitting down just to check it out, am I right?

Re: Detroit Poker Thread

I very nearly played at G'town last nite. Last week played at one of the local "Charity" rooms. After a terrible start (ran into Quads twice and QQ<QJ, twice) ground out a push. I'll take it.

Good luck with the jump to 2/5. I've been considering the same thing. Looking forward to trip reports.

Re: Detroit Poker Thread

Snooker's in Utica occasionally gets a 2/5 going. I sat in on the main table on a Friday, which started as a 1/2, but turned into a 2/5 game at 8 pm.

Mostly the same players, and bad play. Ended up $200 as a 1/2 and $200 as 2/5.

Thanks, Pot Odds. Will post the trip report when I play. Definitely curious to compare the strength of players with 1/2.

Do they just gamble it up and rebuy at 1/2 until the stacks are big enough and then switch to 2/5? I always wondered how the stacks got so big in that game from 1/2 with a $200 max buy-in.

When I played the 2/5 at the Big Beaver Tavern it was very silly - people were buying in for $50 at a time. There was some ridiculous cap on the max buy-in too. Can't remember how much.

When I was playing, the average stack was probably $300 - $350. A couple guys with 7-800, a couple with 150 - 200.

What I noticed, mostly, the guys who were deep at the 1/2 to 2/5 switch, stayed. The shorties/droolers mostly went broke, and seats filled with older guys who had more money to gamble.

Saw alot of junk being shown down. I think I recall a fairly large pot being won with Q hi.

Yum Yum.

This is good to know. Thanks for the insight, Met. Will have to hit that up.

I was playing at Maverick's last night and people were buying in for $20 and $30 rebuys. More than once which I could not understand. And the crazy thing is that they were not pushing all in pre-flop or on the flop. Of course, they couldn't fold once they were down to $12 on the turn, even when anyone would know they were beat. Easy money.

I always used to think these $30-$40 buy in guys were terrible for the table. But then you see them keep rebuying like this, and then there's 3 more waiting behind them to do the same thing.....

Good stuff!

The crazy thing is that they have money to play deeper, but they keep buying in so so small and then try to play as if they were deep! I just say thank you.

They always start at 1/2. The "main" game will switch to 2/5 at about 8pm if everyone is willing or there is enough of a list of players at other tables wanting 2/5.
I think they wait until 8pm to make sure the game doesn't break too early. It also may have something to do with total chips available. Occasionally it will go to round by round

When the main game is 1/2 it plays a little bigger if all the 2/5 regs are there. So, yes they (we) "Gamble it up" at 1/2

I've also seen them be liberal on the max buy in if there are no objections.

Re: Detroit Poker Thread

Played at Greektown last night. Really dead. Basically one 3/6 table and two 1/2 tables after the $225 tourney started. Was surprised at the lack of action compared to other weeks. Would be going to motor city next to see how it is over there.

Slight brag, hit my first one outer ever after being all-in on the flop last night set over set. Too bad it wasn't a bad beat, but I was lucky to double up on that hand.

Not really surprised that a Wednesday non-game night would be slow in Detroit. I generally only play during the week when the Tigers or Wings are playing.

I can only remember hitting a one outer once in my "career". All in head's up vs. Aces with my Tens. Other guy tells me he folded a Ten. While it was my third time of the night to crack Aces, it was not a huge deal since it was still early in a tourney where I failed to cash. I suck at Poker.

For what it's worth, the Greektown PLO game is officially out of control. It's usually played as $5/10 w/ a $20 straddle and $40 button straddle.

Re: Detroit Poker Thread

Went to Greektown last night, was impressed as the changes since I haven't been there in what I guess is a year.

Was actually greeted when I walked in, people were nice, dealers were competent. Liked the general look of the room too, Motor City always kind of depressed me for some reason.

Does anything above $1-3 run on the regular at Greektown? Any 2-5 or 5-10?

Also you can Mississippi straddle now! Can't believe I was the only one doing this at my table.

They changed it to $1-3nl? Other than that just $3/$6 limit and the PLO game. They have regular tournaments, but I don't know the schedule. They used to have a round by round limit game, but I don't think that's going anymore
