Huh. A friend told me she tried to stay at the MGM and couldn't get less than $250 during the week and over $300 on the weekend. Might have been short notice for a busy week. $110 @ G'town isn't robbery for the location and brand new rooms.

MGM is 250 minimum. MC can be had for 150-200 , Greektown is the least expensive.

I agree. They're very nice

Hey, guys. How about if anyone visits a Detroit Poker room they give an update of how many tables are playing and what stakes? Might be good info for people lurking here who might decide to join the action. Throw in the BBJ amount if you feel like it. Thanks!

I meant of course while you're there if you have a smart phone or such. Thx

Motor City: 313-237-6735
MGM: 313-465-1070 (Be careful because they lie to you about the games they have running)
Greektown: 313-223-2999 x5150

Nothing really changes from one day to the next. Yesterday around 7pm there was a 15/30 rdxrd at MC (runs Tu/Wed/Sat), 2, 2/5 and 4, 1/2 as well as 2, 5/10 (usually there is just one, but sometimes they get a must move-not as often as they used to). You'll find at least 4 1/2 going every day and usually two 2/5 and one 5/10.

On the weekend there will be as many as 3 2/5 games, 2, 5/10 and up to 7, 1/2.

I agree with you in that I would not trust the card rooms to give an accurate reporting of the action in the room at any particular time, although calling to get on the waiting lists is still recommended.

Sounds like Motor City has lots of good action still. I will have to check it out one of these days. Is it a good mix of regs and fish, or mostly regs? I am planning on playing at Greektown tomorrow.

G'town should be VERY fishy tomorrow.

Be Aware: I was just in G'town for lunch and all of the surface lots are charging at least $25 for parking. Assuming this is due to the Concert @ CoPa as well as Jazz Fest @ Hart Plaza. It will be even worse on Friday. I wouldn't count on the G'town Parking structure to be any better.

Thx for the heads up RAC. I believe that if you have a frequent player card at GTC you can still park for free. You probably need to get there early enough to get a spot though.

Looking forward to the "fishyness".

I forgot all about that. Good point!

Omaha, in the past before the new parking structure even though they charged during sporting events (lions play as well today) if you showed your greektown card you were allowed in for free. I don't know if that's still the case or not. If you go please let us know if you had to pay or if showing your card got you into the structure for free

Air conditioner hasn't worked in motor city in 4 weeks. I would suggest playing somewhere else.

Played at Maverick's in Port Huron last night. They had their $7 rebuy tournament going with 5 tables and two 50bb buy-in cash game as usual. Dealer said action had been a little down, but last week they got card shufflers and now allow a live straddle utg. Alcohol for sale and kitchen still running with free meal to the high hand of the day.

Probably gonna hit Greektown tonight. Will report on the action there.

Otter...or anyone else interested who lives in the Troy area...

I go to Big Beaver Tavern on a regular basis. They basically run tournaments every day with cash games after that begin to run ~8pm. The cash games are just 1/2 Nl, but with the new straddle rules allowing up to $10 (or more if allowed) the games can get very juicy. Plus, the players are mostly aweful - like worse then anywhere I have seen. For example, this one japansese kid never folded a hand. He would call $100 on a gut shot, and once called all in on the flop with 77 when I check raise him with top pair (QJ) on a Q10x flop - for $75. Not saying all players are quite that bad, but you do a get a nice mix of players and crazy kids like that and nitty old guys too.

On weekends the action is especially good. On one friday night I was there and we actually started a short handed Omaha game that then became a hi/lo game.

They have anywhere from 2-5 cash games going depending on the night. Worth a visit once in a while if you don't feel like going downtown.

The place is also very well run, with good food, hot waitress, massage girls, and adjecent bathrooms.

Also you get can choose from about 10 beers everyday for only $2.

Mini Trip Report
Played three hours at Greektown tonight. Mood in the place was subdued with the exception of one player at the $3/$6 limit table going on and on about how Greektown was the only casino that had must-move tables and that it was a travesty that they would make his table play short handed just to keep another table full.

I played $1/$2 NLHE the whole time and bought in for $200. Greektown has had a couple of ongoing promotions; not sure how much longer they will run. One is a drawing for money ($100?) every hour from 11 am on Tuesdays, but you have to be present to win. You get tickets to enter the drawing anytime you get a flush or better. Enter as many times as you can. The other promotion is that every half an hour they "splash the pot" and pick a random table to have $25 added to the next pot played at that table. I happened to win one of those pots, and it's a great fun because people still are raising for $7 preflop, completely ignoring the additional $25 in the pot.

Had a fairly good night and as I heard mentioned in one of the 2+2 Pokercasts, I ran pretty pure and still ended up $275. I had aces hold up against KQ all in pre-flop. I had KK lose to AA again all-in preflop. I lost a hand with a jack high flush to the nut flush. I had someone with a flopped set of queens overshove the turn blind, only to see a heart make my nut flush (insta-call). All in all I was pretty happy with my play, although I got dealt some good cards all night.

I thought about writing more, but I'm too tired. Good night.

I was at but did not play at MCC Friday Nite. Ms RAC and I saw Al Jarreau. Good show. It was part of our big Anniversary Week which included three days in Vegas earlier in the week.

I have been playing almost exclusively at Charity rooms and at Greektown since they opened their new poker room, but they never seem to have $2/$5 running, and all the MC posts seem to indicate lots of action. I might have to try it again. Last few attempts to play there over a year ago were always met with long waiting lines.

I don't understand it I thought the state of Michigan was broke but yet ever time I go to one of the casinos its always packed....Furthermore, you couldn't pay me to step foot into motor city casino ...Its the worst and its filled with even worse people....Play and stay at Greek-town or MGM. You can call ahead of time and get ur name on the wait-list....Always get valet parking doesn't costs anything but a tip of a few bucks.
