I can see more regular visits by governing bodies to insure no overselling of chips, but not much else.

Does Snookers have security personnel?

If they were shutting them down completely, I would expect all their licenses in the future to be off the MGCB website. Since there are exactly 10 days of licenses not issued, I expect it to be another 10 day ban.

From what I have been told, the charities make between $3000-$4000 profit for the 4 day period at Snookers. If it's $3000 that's $750 per day. Snookers makes exactly the same in gross revenue since they charge 50% of the rake.

10 days x 9 charities x $750 per charity = $67,500 in lost gross revenue for Snookers.

I would much rather the MGCB just fine the room that sum of money than displace all those workers and keep charities from making money during a ban.

Unless the fine is close to the potential lost net income, it's useless.

They do it to make money for themselves. Giving money to the charities is the rake that they pay.

Don is hoping to be open mid January or early February. I mentioned your point about the licenses to a dealer and he said they will probably cancel more of the charities. Judging by what they said in the meeting he was expecting it to be a lot longer. Also going by Dons announcement from last night he wasn't sure they would reopen again. He said " if and when" twice and referred to it as a fight with the state. Sure he said they'll be back but that was more to rally the troops. I think there is a very good chance they don't open again. I hope they do. has any charity been caught twice or are they the first?

which is why it should also be based on the revenue the room takes in. A 1 room charity couldn't survive a $100,000 fine but a 9 charity room could.

So if its shut down thats almost 2.5 mil a year. Thats a respectable hustle. Build up the cash games as big as possible and make a mint. Get caught and have the majority, put blame at the state "what about the charities!!! Your screwing them all over!!" Seriously thats some well done hustling.

Besides the charities that suffer so do the dealers and the kitchen/waitstaff which is bad when you have a lot of workers for as big as Snookers is.

Some of the people work at charity rooms on the side for extra money and others are doing it for their primary source of income so if they do come back who knows how many of the current workers they will lose in that time.

Hopefully other charities will take notice to what has happened as the state clearly wants to make a point in this shutdown whether it be temporarily or permanent.

I don't know if any room has been caught twice. As far as I know, Sharks Club/Card Sharks are the only rooms to have been shut down by the state but who knows since I haven't been all over the state. Sharks Club was shut down because they continued to run poker without a charity which is a HUGE NO NO since they pocket all the rake.

The Charitable Gaming Commission has training for charities but I do not know what their turn out is for those. The big rules are:
1. Don't sell more than $15,000 in chips.
2. Don't let any workers handle the chips. (besides the dealers during the course of play)
3. Don't let any workers handle the money.
4. Don't let any workers manipulate the worksheet.

The charity has all the power. They do not have to over-sell. They have the numbers right in front of them and can say, "no more chips can be sold." I would think they would go after the charities for going over $15,000 more than the rooms.

Hopefully some of the staff can find temp work in the other rooms that might get the displaced traffic.

Wonder how many people out there are thinking of playing tonight and coming to the realization that they can't go to Snookers?

If I was making 2.5 million a year owning a room, there is no ****ing way I would break any of the rules and regulations...... let alone twice.

He should have to follow the same rules that the other rooms follow.

He gets what he deserves imo.

True! A lot of people don't read the internet so they will drive up, pull in the parking lot, and be like what the ???

Sorry if I'm out of the loop a bit but whatever happened to all the proposal charity law changes that were up earlier this year? Did they just get put aside like most things do or are they still to be determined?

I believe their were at least a few other rooms (besides Sharks Club) that operated without charities in the past that got shutdown but I just can't remember the names.

That said Borgata thread does have 20K posts and Foxwoods has 14K. So including venues, we are #3. Nicely done.

Already had a friend call me today on his way to Snookers. Think he turned around and went to the River.

There has been no movement on the new laws from what I've been told by the Michigan Charitable Gaming Association.

You can't have a sliding scale based on income as operating costs can differ drastically across charities. Loss of license is the only equalizer/deterrent.
