Going out to Detroit in a few weeks. Wondering if the action is as good as it was 2 years ago and where to play 2/5, 5/10 NLH, and 1/2, 2/5, 5/10 PLO? Also are there any days or casinos that have particularly good games during the week. Thx to anyone that can help.

Those of you that had signed up for the monthly 8-game, check your PMs.

Pillsbarry, I thought it was sold out and made plans with the wife, otherwise I would be there! Good luck, I think it's great that you're doing this event.

Man, that $5-10 limit Omaha 8 makes me glad i love O8. Juicy game!

Link: Must-move madness in Greektown (my recent thread on B&M, not intentionally Detroit-specific but it will probably digress into critiquing the lack of leadership at Greektown).

Is this really an issue? I can see so if you sit at the front two tables (1&2?), but I usually sit 2/5 and those are 4 tables in from the edge of the room (basically 6 is the closest to the cage and 5 is right next to it). I have played a decent amount of 1/2 there as well, and I have never had a problem.

I was there like 3 weeks ago and they had abolished the must move because it was becoming a hassle. I have to admit, I did nothing to help it out, as I would not answer the floor when they called my name to move over to the main game...
The room is so poorly run. I wish that they would move that game over to MCC, but it seems like it is impossible to fulfill all of the games/dealer/table requirements there... its just not big enough. Too bad, because I have a huge disdain for Greektown. Craps pit sucks hard too.

I'm headed out to Detroit in Late August, Is it better off playing at Windsor?

No, Detroit has plenty of good action. Without the border hassles.

BUY AMERICAN!

Where are you staying while in Detroit? We can recommend some good poker rooms that way.

I stay with fam, who live around 13 mile. They know there way around town and everything, hit up the casinos but don't know much about the poker scene

From everything I've looked up ... It's a toss up between Caesars and MGM.

Again I am open for Suggestions

All the Detroit casinos have nice rooms, but in order of action it would be MCC>Greektown>MGM. 13 Mile runs across metro Detroit suburbs, so you also have charity room options from Four Aces Club on Gratiot, to Pampas in Warren to a little further north, but still closer than downtown Johnny G's in Mt. Clemens and Sunnybrook on 17 Mile Road.

If you're farther out west you can hit Northville Downs close to 6 Mile Road. Those are the ones I know about close to 13 Mile.

Your best bet is Motor City. I prefer MgM but it can be hit and miss depending on the day. I used to like Windsor (Caesars) but I went 2 times in the past month and the dealers were brutal (at least 3 of the 4 that were rotating at my table). One down we only got 10 hands and average was around 15 for the 4 dealers. Reminded me of Greektown.

I'm really surprised to hear that Motor City seems to have the best action in Detroit. Since my return to live poker (since April 15 obv) I have only played a handful of times, 3 times at MGM and 1 time at Greektown, and all during Friday/Saturday nights. The one time I played at Greektown the action was horrrrrrible, and I actually had to request a table change which I never do. My times at MGM the play has been mixed, a somewhat easy game for the most part but not tons of action by any stretch of the imagination. The only reason I haven't hit up Motor City is because they don't give $1/hour comps. But, apparently everyone is saying that is where the money is. How the games during the week? I'm assuming Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights have the easiest games?

MC doesn't comp but they give free sandwiches, Hot dogs, pizza, etc to poker players.

The room can be nitty but there are always more tables running than GT or MGM. All in all dealers are better as well

Just throwing this out there because not a lot of players have taken advantage of this:

We have a $1 rake on all cash games from 6:30pm-8:30pm at Johnny G's Poker Room...every Thursday - Sunday.

Our crowd is typically a later crowd, which is why we offer this...to get more action going earlier each day. I'd love to see more $1 rake play happening at Johnny G's...great deal for cash players!

Going out to Ann Arbor for a Sept football game, Visiting oldest daughter with youngest daughter, While they are partying at night (Not cool for Dad to be hitting on college age chicks in front of kids, like I'd have a chance anyways) So I would be looking for some poker action. What are the closest casino's/card rooms? approx driving times? Looking for 1-2 plo8, 1-2 plo, or 2-5 of either plo variety.

Thanks, and Go Blue! Actually, Go getting some f'n defense Blue

The very closest is a charity room at the Heidelberg that might run 1 or 2 tables (maybe more, they were abnormally sparse the Friday night i went) of $1-2. Then there are 1 or 2 in Ypsi and i don't know beyond that. Closest real casinos are of course the three in Detroit.

Amen to that. People more in the know than me seem to think it's going to be a good season, so at least hope springs eternal.

Is that nlhe or plo/plo8? how far by car is the Detriot casinos? Is one of the properties a Harrahs?

$1-2 NLHE at Heidelberg. I've not heard any talk of PLO, although i did hear rumors that the Roundtree in Ypsi (Hewitt and Ellsworth) occasionally has some.

Detroit casinos are 45 min away, all located near the freeways downtown. AFAIK no Harrah's.

I just noticed on the Foxwoods board that i can get at $200 gift card for any MGM property for 300 of my player points. Anyone know if they have special rates for poker players at the MGM Detroit?, what would be a good rate for at friday/saturday/sunday stay?

Is it easy highway access both heading to the casino, as well as to campus?

MGM a good poker room?, would it be likely to find a plo or plo8 game running. How about limit o8. 5-10 full kill or 10-20 no kill? or am i heading into a room with only nlhm?

One other unrelated thing, I love watching hardcore pawn, is it safe to visit there, looks like a cool place or would it be a waste of time? (nothing to really see?)

You will only be finding NLHE at MGM. In a very rare event they spread 2-5 PLO, but that is usually later on in the evening/(morning)

Greektown on Saturdays runs a 5/10 limit O8 game with a full kill, that would be your best bet!

Yep, super-juicy game, but each week it starts earlier. I'm gonna try to make it there at 7:30 am to be sure to get a seat. They've been running a must-move though so if you get there mid-morning you should get in a LO8 game within a couple of hours.
