We all know there is a want and a community to support something like this. There has to be a reason why no one tries to run a Michigan Poker Tour. I used to bowl many years ago, and there were at its peak, three different monthly traveling tournament tours that would draw 60-200 bowlers a month for each tour.

I just don't get why this hasn't been done with poker.

A poker room would work in Michigan as in get great business if open 24/7 as long as it's in a good location but obviously the state of Michigan would never go for everything your saying so whether it would get a great turnout for a tournament series is unfortunately a mute point.

True it is a moo point. First problem is that the casino lobbyists aren't going allow it to get out of committee. Well, I don't think so, but that's just me. Personally, I think when the person who ran greektown screwed up the HPT in 2008, it turned off the other casinos to try something like that. I doubt it was venue related, but personel related.

Too much money in failed casino proposals. The politicians and lobbiest are printing money with these pipe dreams. Why kill the golden goose by actually adding more casinos?

I did early on, but it might be good to get it discussed again. Let me talk it over with Gambit.

Speaking of MGM, I've been curious about this for a while. I've read/heard about players achieving its respective properties' top tier comp status playing strictly poker. I can't recall which casinos exactly, maybe Caesars properties? and/or others? Is it possible at MGM ... even just for the sake of discussion, to achieve their "Pearl" (only the next lvl above the standard "Sapphire") status playing stricly poker ... at 1/2 1/3 and/or 2/5? Or do they not even include poker play ... aside from receiving food comps?

It might be possible to achieve the next level by playing poker in MI, but I would be very cynical of someone saying that they got to Noir (MGMs top tier level) by poker alone. I know someone that has posted ITT that is a Noir, and from my understanding, it took a lot of effort (aka money) to get to that point. As for playing big games like 300/600+, I think that it might be possible, but I am not sure.
I know that with Total Rewards, you are able to get at least Diamond Status in about 8 weeks of playing poker. Someone in Atlantic City had it calculated that one could play 2/4 LHE for 50 hours a week and get at least that status in 8 weeks. Play at Harrahs at their prescribed times of double base credits, and you could get it faster.
As for the Borgata Rewards card, I have been upgraded from the Red Label to the Black Label card in my 3 trips out to AC. However, I played a lot of poker (no really Jose, it was poker) at 10/20 and 20/40 LHE, both of which are played in the back room. Maybe that had something to do with it, maybe not. I am not sure.

As far as I can tell none of the comps/points from playing poker at 1-2 or 2-5 count towards tier level at all at MGM. This might be different for the Vegas properties but I cant say for sure.

The caesars properties do apply poker comps to your tier level. So in Detroit you'd have to go across the border to Caesars Windsor and play there. It's been a while since I've gone, the border guys on the US side used to be dicks to 20 something guys coming back at 4am.

Heading out to the casinos this weekend. Where's a fish go for a cash game (1/2) in the early afternoon? I'm hoping to get to MGM for the first time but I want there to be a full game going. 6-7 handed would be ok I just don't want to be sitting at the table with only two other people.

Is the rake at MGM 10% up to $6?

Does MGM validate parking?

Rake is correct. Don't think you will have any problem finding a FR game on the weekends ... even at MGM. And parking is free in the structure.

Also, thx for the response in regards to the tiers and whatnot. Seems about right as far as what I've heard/read. Total Rewards was the one I was thinking of. So basically, don't get much out of playing at MGM. That's unfortunate. Even simple food comps are a pain to make use of, unless they've changed it. Used to be, you had to have the poker room print out a voucher. And in regards to Noir, I believe you had to spend $40,000 in a given year ... although if it helps, that includes money spent on food/show/rooms/etc.

$40k for Noir? No. I think its closer to $100k and 75%+ of that has to be spent at the tables. I had lunch at MGM with a Noir the other day. Let me get in contact with him and I'll ask him.

I know it's not $40k because I have blown throw a decent amount of money (over $10k) playing craps and other non-EV games, to which a few people ITT can attest, and I was never even in the ballpark of Noir.

Looked it up quickly and it looks like the 40k spent applies only to non gambling money spent.

MCC's take on the industry

We do not expect Penn National Gaming's Hollywood Casino Toledo (approximately
60 miles from Detroit, scheduled to open in the second quarter of 2012) to
have a material effect on the Detroit market or CCM's operating performance.
Most of CCM's customers are within a 25-mile radius of the property, and we
believe only a small percentage of its rated players come from Ohio.
Additionally, several groups are seeking to add additional gaming locations in
Michigan. At this point, we view this potential competition as a
low-probability issue, because it faces several hurdles, including the need
for the commercial proposal to gain the requisite signatures to place a
proposal on the election ballot and, in the case of the tribal proposal, the
ability to gain federal approval for off-reservation gaming. We will continue
monitoring the potential for additional gaming capacity in the state.
