I have a funeral to go to, but was thinking of going later depending on how many are playing later. Anyone planning to be there?

@deucefive hey, bro, glad you've been able to play more recently. I agree with liking the bigger starting stack sizes. Playing that deep early on let's one play more pots to build stacks too, as opposed to having to safeguard chips for 20 bb ships in the middle of the tournament. Still want to come check out TripKings and Electric Stick. Will post on here when I go.

Decided to play a tournament last night at Four Aces. It truely is good comedy and I wish I could record the poker discussions at the table. We were down to 3 tables blinds are 1600-3200. Im UTG and see AdKs, I make 8k to go and get called in five spots. Flop comes all diamonds queen high. I only have 60k left so I fist pump ship it in. The guy to my left instacalls. I show my hand and the man proudly says "I knew you only had a flush draw" and turns over Q5o. I chuckle to myself and think "sometimes you go all night and never see the queen five off suit". I brick the old man collects his chips and I mutter "poker is ez"

The staff is cool, the players are like extras from the movie Idiocracy. Its an odd place that I like to visit every other month.
Have to ask, but the old guy ... Bandana wearin guy?

Sick read...I take it hes a local legend in that room. A buddy came up to me and said to stay away from him and that he wanted his chips. Nice enough guy, amazing poker logic. Actually he did say something smart that I agreed with. Said he likes to come in late near the break and buyin with the full addon. You get something like 80k in chips for 50 bucks and the blinds after break I think are 400-800. Makes sense but your missing out on $10 dollars of entertainment.

Someone suggested March Madness time, so we are going to shoot for March 17, from 6 pm to closing. Cada's Poker Room has offered free food for the party and private tables. We need to get a count of players so they know how many charities, dealers, etc. to have that night.

If you're interested in attending, post in this thread, or PM me or Gambit8888. RSVP is the only way to reserve your swag if we get some. Yes, it is okay if you invite people who don't post here as long as they play poker that night and you are vouching for them.

Hope to see you there!
Sounds fun, i'm in!!!! Do you guys only play plo8 or is it just one of the tables? Havent played in ages, would be fun. Look forward to meeting some people from here, and donating some cash to y'all obv.

Went to MotorCity Casino last night for a short $1/2 session. I get there about 9pm and get seated right away. I look at the player to my left and it's 1Game, that's 3 times in a week! He tells me that Kwackbars is still here from last night...WHAT!?!?!? I turn around and call his name, shaking my head in disbelief. I haven't pulled a 24hr session in like 2 years!
Anyway, I wanted to make it a short session because I was tired and really didn't feel like playing. After about an hour of active play I get dealt K 9 and open to $10 after one caller an old man 3-bets to $25 I played with him before and I know his range is basically top 3 hands but for $15 more into a $75 pot (when the other player calls) I decide to see the flop. Flop is A 7 2 NUTS!! I kick 1Game so he can quit playing on his phone and watch this hand, I lead out $15 so hopefully guy in MP calls and old guy has to make a bigger raise. Everything goes as planned, old man raises to $100 and I ship. We turn over our hands and he has AA...turn is 5x river is 7x Nooooooooooooo!!! I decide to just leave instead of rebuying. I hate losing!!!

No. We will play pretty much whatever everyone agrees on. Last time we had two tables going, one for people who just wanted to play holdem. The other table was gonna be a mix game but at the last second everybody just decided to start with PLO8 (and it never changed throughout the night). IMO, name your poison and there will probably be someone there who will play it.

Nice to see you are in. Will be cool to meet new people again this time around.

so my brother-in-law calls me tonight, he's at MCC playing 1-2. He gets into a hand w/ some guy drinking blowing off steam after work. Guy bets flop, bro calls w/ 2pr, turn same, river makes a str8 on the board and guy barrels again, bro tank/sigh/calls and guy mucks, dealer basically pushes his cards back to him, he mucks again, at this point my brother-in-law speaks up and says HEY, he mucked, thats a muck, and takes in the whole pot that was obv. a chop. I LOLed hearing this, but got to thinking, WTF was this dealer thinking?!? I mean, the guy is drunk/dumb, but imo the dealer has no business trying to give him his freakin' cards back, amiright?? I woulda been kinda pissed tbh, not like there was any angle-shoot or w/e, the guy was just not reading the board...thoughts????

Thanks man, had a good time playing this week. You mentioned the stick and I had said I was going to post about it after I played there which I have neglected to do. I played a Friday 7:00 about a month ago and it is the largest tournament I've played in thus far, 200 runners. IIRC it was $35 with 20k starting stack. Unfortunately I was pretty card dead and busted shortly after first break. I do remember that I had doubled up with 77 against AK and busted two hands later with top two against a straight. Anyway, I liked it simply because of the size of the field and obviously the pot that comes along with it. I wish I had lasted longer to get a better feel for the blind structure but up to the point I got busted it seemed pretty good. I'm sure some others ITT have more experience with this tournament and can provide better insight. Friday usually isn't a poker night for me but I'd like to get out there and play another sometime in the next few weeks.

I know a few people who deal there that would gladly snap muck the persons hand just for the joy of it. Then again i can think of a few female dealers who would point out the straight. Would be uber pissed and never tip them again, thats way out of line.

Whatever the dealer's thinking, he's obviously not taking one player per hand seriously. Your brother-in-law should call the floor, unless he prefers to let it slide for "business" by not antagonizing a weak-playing opponent.

People get this part about showdowns confused easily. If the guy tabled his hand then threw it into the muck, his cards speak. Now he not only has a right to part of the pot, but everyone at the table has an ethical obligation to point it out to make sure the pot gets pushed the right place.

But he didn't table his hand, so cards don't speak. The dealer can't help him decide to table.

I agree. If he mucked his cards, then how can the dealer force a chop?

In fact, the dealer cannot. You must have a live and legal hand to chop a pot. Because the cards were never exposed when pushed forward and released, it fails to meet the first criteria and it can never be known whether it met the second.

Were I in that situation, I would collect my pot, get up and discretely discuss the matter with the floor away from the table. You don't want the other player to know he cost himself half of the pot and you certainly don't create a conflict with the dealer at the table. Increasing the stress level of a table is very rarely +EV.

Well, it depends on how you value the pot versus the EV of continuing to play in a happy setting, and how you handicap the odds of the floor ruling in your favor. (Detroit floors = high variance.) I have an ethical boundary against playing NL against complete and obvious drunks, which keeps me out of spots like this i suppose. But if a sober, cognitively able opponent misreads the board and mucks, that's just part of the game and i'd be happy to take the pot.

But you're correct that you should always consider the effect that pushing your rights will have on the game. Good thing i play Omaha where the players are all as cranky as i am regardless of whether i put my foot in my mouth.
