I think I got it now. Thanks

@kwackbars crazy action, bro. Love those kinds of tables where people are shipping it left and right. Yeah, I usually say limping all those monster hands is a bad idea, but except for one or two times you got lucky and got stacks in anyway. I wouldn't count on that usually. Just play them straight forward and you will win more over the long term. I also have been experimenting with the big bet/overbet against weaker players, but I've found even the aggro ones find folds more often than not. Still nicely done on that last hand.

Unfortunately, the forum rules prevent us from discussing the top 5 currently active players in Michigan that aren't world famous. That'd be a big conversation due to the number of considerations. (HE vs. mixed, small vs. big stakes, tournament vs. cash, people reading skills, sound judgement, etc.)
Joker, I'm pretty sure 7 figure earnings need to be in the conversation if we are talking top 5 of all time. You can make suggestions for other top players based on other criteria. Maybe just use initials like everyone else. But really, if you don't have the results to go with the respect, can you be top 5?

how is that place still open? I haven't been in over a year. i thought their tournaments were getting 2 tables tops anymore, no?

They looked pretty healthy as far as number of players. Sixty runners in the team tournament last night. Cash games appear anemic at best. Only place that I've seen spread $.25/$.50 in Michigan.

They also have a weekly league for bragging rights (and single tournament winnings of course), that seemed to have over 50 registered. Not sure how they're doing on profits, but tournaments are drawing players.

Queen of Hearts usually gets a good draw of donkament players during some weekdays and week nights. The Wednesday gets like 7-10 tables (poker league) and usually some cash but yeah they spread that .25/.50 game way too often which takes the same 10% up to $6 rake cap as playing $1/$2. The cash games run more on Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday.

They have free pizza on Fridays and Saturdays around 8:30-9pm and cheap $1 dollar drafts which once were slightly smaller at 50 cents a piece. The waitresses are like non-existent most of the time.

Overall, not a great room to go for cash action except a few days a week but some tournaments aren't bad. It's not like Electric Stick but turnouts which no rooms really are but a not bad.

As for how they are doing who knows. I've seen people playing blackjack a lot there so they are probably doing well on that since charity blackjack rules can be tough to beat or I should say unbeatable over time.

Yup, still out here. I finally got a job out here, and let me tell you, it's practically worse than back home! I'll be running some table games at a Casino out here and can give some feedback as to poker room action in SoCal for those who are interested.

Thank you Omaha8A2 for the fix, I know I can always rely on you for being in my corner! Also, I have a friend who has been successfully organizing mixed games at the Venetian and some HORSE tourneys at the Orleans. Her father and his friends helped create Binghala, and have always had a big following for whacky mixed games. So, if anyone is planning on going to Vegas and is interested in partaking, feel free to shoot me a PM and I'll help out as best I can. Hope the cards have been friendly for everyone!

Hey everyone, new to the thread and I'm looking for some advice on where to play....

I live in the woodhaven area and would like to play some $ 1-2 NLH.

Been reading that Queen of Hearts is no good, so has anyone played at Taylor Lanes? Anywhere else within 45 minutes or so that is worth the drive?
Or should I just go downtown?

My free time is Sun. nights and all day Mon., Tues, and Wed. (If that helps)

Glad to hear you are doing good. I was just in SoCal two weeks ago lol. Played at the Hawaiin Gardens 3 times. I wish I was able to play other places too but didnt get the chance. Maybe next year.

So anyways, 4-8 limit O8 is soooooo soft at the gardens. You should go in there and clean up! Easy game imo.

Good luck and keep posting

Yeah I have been there on Wednesdays. They have a tourney starting stack 15k chips if I remember. Last time I was there on Wednesday they had 4 tables going in the tourney with one cash table going and eventually two and three cash tables when the tourney players get knocked out. I think the tourney was 35$ buyin with normal charity fast blind levels.

Tuesday(tonight) they get a 2/5 game going, the guy who runs the 'berg texted me today saying it was running but I am doing homework.

I have a programming assignment due friday but if I feel comfortable enough with my progress on it I may be able to go up there tomorrow.

I'm a tournament player, but if you're looking for a place w/ more than one table running on a given evening, the Electric Slick in Westland is probably your best bet. Taylor and Woodhaven Lanes usually have only 1 table going. Taylor is full of high, tattooed, foul mouth hillbillies if that helps sway you one way or the other....

Most of the people I talked to at Queen of Hearts said they played cash at Taylor Lanes or Motor City which is only about 30 minutes away.

Haha... thanks, but i really didn't mean it to be condescending (and i apologize that it came out that way). I just figured people weren't seeing the plus sign button next to the much bigger Quote button.

Does everyone see what i mean, or is this still unclear?

Thanks guys, looks like MCC is the best place for me. Seems like I live in a poker dead zone. From what I've read, it looks like most of you live north of detroit and have better choices than I do. (or just willing to take the trip)
Maybe I'll see some of you around, and good luck at the tables!

Hey, if you gotta drive, you may as well make the trip to a good game. The extra 20 mins or so won't kill ya.

In fact, you should make the trip up to Pampa Lanes at Van Dyke & Chicago and play some PLO8 at 8pm with us! We've had some new faces and the action is pretty good.
