So, the big blind is equal to the ante all tournament?

Seems off. Is that right?

Should make for some loose games! Ha

So what rooms are having tournaments besides Motor and Vision Lanes?

I am pretty sure that just means the Big Blind also pays the ante for the whole table each hand. Speeds up the game

Or at least live tournaments. Quick summary is about 3 or 4 years ago now tournaments started having the BB also pony up the ante, as it speeds up the game in a lot of ways. They don't need to keep small denom chips in play, and no worrying about who has and hasn't anted. The last time I played a WSOP nightly deepstacked it was a freaking nightmare because half the time at the table was spent with the dealer trying to redistribute all the low denom chips around to ensure everyone had enough to ante. It's a major time saver.

It makes for a couple neat strategy deviations. Short handed you play looser because the ante doesn't scale with players at the table, so short handed pots are larger now due to always having the total ante be a full BB. When short stacked you can play a bit tighter OTB and looser UTG because of how much being the BB hits your stack.

Tournament is so involved compared to cash, eh? The Flop 'down bet' being the rage currently compared to the 5 and 6-bet wars of yesteryear. There's definitely different concepts to apply for both .. with the ultimate fear factor of not being able to reload always hanging over your head in tournament. GL

I don't want to lead you astray .. hopefully you get some response in here and/or are able to stop in and talk to them. It's possible that this wont even run .. then again it's possible that they might get 30-40 runners.

Like you, there may be 'a lot' of others that just want to get into a tournament and will jump at the chance for this one. I'm just being very overly cautious due the the overall picture of poker in Detroit being mainly at MGM and the history of tournaments at MCC.

I hope I'm very wrong to be leaning this way .. GL
I was tempering my expectations after this reply because I agreed with you but was hoping to be wrong.

Well, we were wrong. There were 413 runners for the tournament at Motor City and even talked to a couple out of state players. Lots of alternates to start but it seemed like they were getting sat fast.

Big turnout for this one — had 24k up top and paid down to 45th. I did not cash as I lost TT vs 22 all in preflop for 49k at 1500/3000/3000 just before dinner break.

Thanks for the following up .. very good news. Not knowing what's going on in Toledo right now I should've anticipated that 'that' very strong tournament crowd might venture north!

No shame in your bust hand .. how big was 22 stack?

For 1500/3000 to be a dinner break level means it was a decent structure for a one day tournament IMO. GL

Wonder what time it ended? I finished 90thish on my 2nd bullet. Best (worst) moment of the day for me: 55. Flop bottom set on J95. Aces shoves, OMC calls, I call. I whisper to OMC "I flopped a set." Him: "Me too."

Well I know that a certain WSOP x2 PLO winner was on Twitter at 3 AM .. good place for him to be if that game was running. They also had two tables of 25-50 going within a week ago with 'the ropes' around them .. word was there was at least two $70K pots!

Classic .. some of the Dealers were asking us at the 1/3 PLO table if we had played in that game! GL

Hey all:

Here is one bit of good news!

MotorCity Casino is re-opening it's buffet tonight.

At first, the buffet will only be open for dinner service, no breakfast or lunch.

I'm going to wait a week or so and let them work out the kinks before going back. Going to be interesting to see how it plays out.

Perhaps this will be a good thing for MC, MGM has taken almost all of the poker business in Detroit, especially everything above 1/2.

Which would be the best casino in Detroit for poker cash games in terms of softness, availability of games, and safe neighborhood. Although I’ll be packing heat, I don’t want to whack yet another guy.

I can't answer the question about games but I can tell you that it is against the law to carry a gun in the Detroit casinos. You might be cable to carry from your car to security and have them lock it up for you while in the casino but am not positive so I would check with their security before doing that so you don't catch a case.

Detroit certainly hasn't returned to anywhere near it's pre-CV peak for poker. IMO your best option is MGM. It's probably the only place you'll find PLO and even in the 1-2 games there are plenty of spots to choose from with 'normal' aggression.

I ran into a NL 'expert' Saturday morning with about $1800 in his stack at 1-2 and played my best OMC routine for about 3 orbits, even showing a PF fold of an Ace to one of his 3-bets. Well, he talked his way into doubling me twice and then the look on his face when I got called for the 'big' PLO game was priceless. He was still running his mouth to the current tablemates about 90 minutes later with roughly the same stack that he had when I moved games.

As with all big city casinos you really need to watch your Ps & Qs a bit and let folks have their moment if an issue pops up. I would assume that it's a felony .. not really worth taking that chance IMO but if you're looking for headlines .. GL

mod: I'm fine with a discussion of the policy itself, but please avoid making this a discussion about guns and gun rights and what side you support. Take it to the politics forum if you want to debate that stuff.

Thanks.

The parking garages are definitely not safe neighborhoods.

The stairwell in the garage smelled of urine. Reminds me of New York, the greatest city on earth. Good thing I’m heeled.

MGM is the biggest room and has the most customers so the wait is long. Motor City has less tables but wait isn’t that long. A lot of players are playing for the high hand which gets annoying sometimes. Greektown has mostly $1/$3 games and not much of a crowd. Usually one or two tables. I’d check Bravo first to see how busy it is. I don’t feel unsafe going to any of those casinos. I just keep to myself and just pay attention when walking in the parking structures.

Wish I could help.

I can say that the the WMich charity poker rooms sell out (20K) 'a lot'. The 1/2 games are playing like 2/5 should (without the Nits). One room had a $200 BI tournament and got 91 entries!

I think the PLO Players are staying 'home' so to speak for fear of running out of chips, but some of the rooms are going to add a 2nd charity during the day, so they may be able to run some PLO.

Not what you're looking for, but at least a 'charity' report. GL
