I didn't know about this app until now, thanks. Does the waitlist mean that there's x amount of people there waiting for a seat, or could it also mean call aheads and there's actually a seat open?

Bravo typically doesn't show call-ins anymore (it used to) so if there is a list it means those folks are on site and waiting for a seat. You can always ask how big the list is when you call. One advantage/issue at MCC is that when they call a name they expect you to be right there and 'may' move on to the next name if you don't respond after 20 seconds ... it depends on the Floor and how busy the room is.

For that time of day make sure you call almost the full hour ahead of time so you have the best chance to be at the top of the list when you arrive. There is a 'shift change' at MCC where the day-timers head home, but that can be anywhere between 3-7PM depending on their plans and the action of the day.

My experience is that the list moves quicker at MCC, but MCC will also have the 5/10/20 NL game attempting to run on Friday night as well ... AND it's a holiday weekend so it may be busier (or slower) than usual. The 2/5 may be juicier at MCC with Players waiting for the bigger game.

Certainly a game time decision, but I would lean towards checking out the MCC action first and then head over to MGM if things look stale. GL

For what it's worth, that's really room dependent. MCC on Bravo lists phone calls and people who have checked in, but I realize that's not true for all rooms these days (learned that the hard way in Vegas this summer when I thought there were 7 on the list for a PLO game at Aria and when I showed up I was 22nd on the list, but only 7 were checked in)

Arrived at MGM around 6, gave them my ID and it failed? Security guard told the nice lady checking IDs that it was real and to let me through, she insisted on one of the higher ups coming to investigate, he insisted on letting me through, she refused...Can't really get mad at her for following procedures, but still annoying. The boss comes a whopping 20 minutes later, looks down at my ID for about 2 seconds and says "you're good." Anyways, I got to the poker room around 630 and said I called ahead and the floor checks my ID, then says I'm not 21, not sure what the other guy's title is, I think pit boss comes over and says that I am in fact 21. After that got sorted out, I told them I was a call ahead and he said I was on there for an hour so he took me off and that I'd be eighth on the waiting list, with a game not opening until 8, but he could give me a 1/2 seat, so I told him to hold on and called MCC while he was waiting and they said they had four open 2/5 seats, so I told floor no thank you and headed to MCC. Fingers crossed not every trip to MGM is like that LOL.

Anyways, played 2/5 at MCC from 7 until 11, got super tired, kinda bummed because I was planning on playing longer. Game was pretty trash...I sat down with $500 and was the second deepest stack, with five seats having $300 or less...I didn't even know that was possible. By the time I got moved all of the action players either left or went to the 5-10-20 game. One last complaint and I'm done - I was shocked at how slow the dealers were...No bs, I'd take any of the dealers at my local charity room over that lineup of dealers

Let's try this again tonight. I think I'm gonna try and hit up MGM around 6 and play until midnight.

That's not normal. But if you look like you're 12 and have an ID that says you just turned 21 yesterday .... maybe.

In a situation where you're already in the room, with a 1/2 seat available ... take the seat and start playing. Get a stroll over to the $2/5 game, check the stacks and the players and scope out the action before bailing. If it's a good game it's worth a little bit of a wait at another table.

Casino dealers in detroit are terribly slow, and the floor people should have velcro shoes.

To be fair, you do look super young! Though, shocking that a floor guy couldn't at least get your age right. I know MGM, and especially the poker room, have been hit pretty hard for dealing to underage players. How they got in the front door is beside me, but I've seen numerous dealers ask players for ID or call the floor over to ID players because they've been in trouble before.

I should have done that and will do that tonight. I think that's very sound advice, I'm just really impatient, which is ironic because I have no problem folding for an hour straight.

The dealer situation is annoying... I've got a few dealer friends who have been trying to get a job there and they deal much faster than what I saw last night.

Definitely, I can't fault her for doing her job. In floor's defense he did say "you're not 21 for 5 more days," when I had turned 21 5 days prior - honest mistake. Funny you mention that though, several people told me in the past that MGM doesn't card and I'd be able to easily get in, so it all adds up.

There's no reason not to be able to read an ID ... 8/26/2001 is a hell of a lot different than 09/04/2001 ... really?

Did you explain the ID issue to the Floor at MGM ... Did you call the room and tell them you were going to be a bit late and ask to hold your call-in spot?

These are all things you will learn as you play more. As far as MCC Dealers ... there are a few real treats there yes. The day time crew is much better most of the time.'

I don't think you are surprising any of us with your report ... good luck tonight, hopefully you can get a nap in and be fresh for your session. GL

We tried it again last night - played 2/5 at MGM. I decided to sit down at the 1/2 game while I waited, but they opened a new table within 30 mins of my arrival.

The first 2/5 game was awesome, but was must move obviously and I was first on the list. I went from playing in a 2/5 game that played like a 1/2 game to a shark infested reg game that I'm not even sure I was +EV in. I moved tables and the other game was pretty lousy, too, no where near as tough but super tight.

One thing I really like about 2/5 is the vibe at the table...I've witnessed no crying, no unprofessional behavior, and almost none of those annoying people at the table that think they're god; there was a guy at the final table I was at wearing an Upswing that that thought the hat in fact transformed him into Doug Polk, and felt the need to talk strategy and explain every single decision to the table, yet didn't even realize he had a flush one hand LOL - I'll take it though, there's way more of that silliness at 1/2.

I plan on playing the Friday night 2/5 game from now on and 1/2 otherwise until I'm fully rolled. Boo on the smoking inside, no fun going home smelling like ****.

I HATE that they do must moves for the $1/3 and $2/5 games. Must moves are terrible structures.

You're almost better off asking to be put at the bottom of the list and taking a $1/2 seat for an hour.

Yep, I was thinking of doing that next time, because there was a ridiculous difference between the must move table and the main game

No. But it has the same shitty ventilation as all the other Detroit casinos. There's smoke everywhere on the floor, it ends up in the Poker room, and everywhere between the Poker room and the bathrooms and parking garage.

The legacy 2+2 app? It's officially kaput. There's an ATF thread about it.

There seems to be some buzz about the Toledo tournament from the west side. Could be a decent turnout.

Speaking of tournaments ... Gun Lake is holding a PLO tournament on September 28th at Noon. $250/210 (15K chips, 30 min levels), 2 re-entries if needed with surrender option as well as an optional $100/90 (10K chips) add-on at the end of Level 4 (end of registration). A last minute late reg/re-entry (with add-on) will still garner you 41.5bb at 300/600.

Not sure how this will go on a Saturday at Noon, but it could go over very well. There are plenty in the GL Player pool that would be willing to fire all 3 bullets ... if they show up!! GL

Had a fun time tonight. Played about 5 hours of 1/3 PLO. That game is GOOD! Wish I had a game like that back home.
