What is $2-5 nl hold 'em x2 at MGM? Is that a $1000 max buy-in perhaps?

Had a nice post ready for you but then I had to jump on a work thing ... and it was gone!!

This is not as simple as it might seem. First and foremost you actually need to be an up and running (over a year) 'certified' charity (503?) in Michigan to garner a 'Millionaire Party' license. A charity may apply for up to 4 four-day licenses in a calendar year.

Then you need to get on the schedule at the poker room and supply 3 or more 'workers' to oversee the cash during play. Lots of these poker rooms have full calendars but are always willing to have some 'stand by' that are willing to apply for a license if another charity fails the application process.

If a charity has a facility they can host their own games with or without the help of a Supplier, but this process does take time as Gaming personnel will have to come in a approve the Location before they will issue a license.

A charity gets 55% of the first $2000 ($1100) in rake taken in, then they get 100% of the rake. The Supplier and Landlord are limited to $900 combined per license per active day. Some Suppliers will try to run two charities per day to increase their income.

I could go on and on but I'm not sure what you are actually trying to do. I just know that 'friends' don't just up and 'host' a (legal) poker game at what we would consider a 'normal' Charity Location.

We can chat more here in the open or you can DM me but that really pretty much covers it. GL

PS ... You can always go to the 'Millionaire Party Locator' on the mich.gov website to find where active charity rooms are running for the next 3-4 weeks throughout the state. You can search by city or county ... I like the county feature better

The best options in Farmington area are the two Players locations:

Players Golf and Poker Room is at 8 Mile and Farmington Road. 33463 Eight Mile Rd, Livonia, MI 48152. This room runs two charities every day Wednesday-Saturday (one charity from 11 AM - 6 PM and one from 7 PM - 1:30 AM).

Players Golf and Poker Room South is at Plymouth and Levan. 36115 Plymouth Rd, Livonia, MI 48150. I believe they run similar hours Sunday-Wednesday but I'm not 100% sure of the Wednesday hours at this location.

Not sure if this information is current or not, but the last information I had for the charity event planner for both locations was as follows: email: aimhighproceeds@gmail.com phone: 248-705-4631. I believe the woman's name was Lauren but this information is at least 18 months old

If it's your first time trying to run a charity gaming event, check out the gaming website first.

Going to be in town Thursday night Sept 12th, going to the ASU Michigan St game. Instead of driving to Lansing that first night, had a free room offer for MGM Grand, so I took it.

I am primarily a LHE player with decent mixed game background. My few looks at Bravo shows only PLO and NLH at MGM Grand.

But I do currently see two games of 15/30 round by round at Motorcity. Is that a limit mixed game? What games normally in mix?

If that game is going, I will likely try it out as my normal game is 20/40 LHE and 20/40 Super Stud 8/b & Big O. If not, I will just sit in the 1/3 PLO at MGM Grand since NLH is the worst game alive.

I'm sure it will run. It's been running a few times a week consistently for 20 years. Unless they changed it, it's hold em and Omaha hi. They might still allow you to put your name on the list a week ahead of time. Someone else can verify if that's true, or you could give them a call.

Limit poker in Detroit is very limited.

At Motorcity, they run a Limit Omaha hi/Hold'em mixed 15/30 game on Tuesday and Thursday (fixed start time of 10 AM) and Saturday (fixed start time of noon). The Tuesday game is a full-kill game, but I'm not certain on the Thursday and Saturday games (I think Saturday might be a half kill so they play 20/40 if someone wins two in a row). They also just introduced a 30/60 game that runs at 2 PM on Sunday (last Sunday was the first day for this game but it should run every Sunday for a while).

MGM runs 3/6 limit hold em every Tuesday.

Greektown might have some Omaha 8/b on Tuesday and Friday according to Bravo but I haven't been to Greektown for poker in years, so I can't confirm. I sort of remember seeing a 5/10 limit O8/b game there on Bravo but I don't know if it even runs regularly.

On a Thursday night, your best bet for limit games is going to be that 15/30 game at Motorcity. Game starts at 10 AM, but Thursday is kind of a slow day for limit games and there's a good chance it breaks before the evening (but again, check Bravo because it can be hit or miss week to week, you might get to town and find there are two tables going on Thursday night).

The 1/3 PLO at MGM can be a very good game. Plays more like a 2/5 game with the $800 max buy-in and it has a $5 bring in (no limping for $3). The game often plays with a button straddle for $10, especially later into the evening. First table usually opens around 4 PM and then you'll find two or three games going most nights.

The 15/30 is a 'game of the day' event at MCC (It shows on Bravo as such) and thus comes with an open list that's a week out. Usually the Players who start the game get first dibs on the list for the week following. If you are looking at arriving during afternoon or evening that list should be parred down quite a bit. It still wouldn't hurt to call and talk to (hopefully) an informed Floor. Certainly feel free to call about an hour before you arrive to solidify your spot on the list. I've never sat down, but there are 2-3 sharks in that game who may or may not still be around when you get your chance.

Poker 'action' tends to migrate from MCC to MGM in early afternoon. MCC stills has games running but it tends to be tighter and less deep pockets. Thursday tends to be a very good PLO day across Michigan, especially with football season creeping into play.

Both of these casinos are very close to one another so it wouldn't take much to switch back and forth if you are looking for greener grass. GL

Thank you all three for your answers. I will likely start out at MotorCity and see how it looks and if the 15/30 is dead, I'll just move to MGM Grand which is where I am staying. I should have time to play on Thurs and Sunday since my friends flights get in Wed night and they leave at 6am on Sunday while my flight is at 6pm Sunday, so I can have a full afternoon of poker and football before catching my flight. Looking forward to this trip!

Decided I’m going to play some charity cash tonight. Any recommendations between Vision versus that new place on LeVan and Plymouth? Read the scummy story that happened at the latter a couple months ago, don’t really care about that stuff, just want to know which room has the better games and if they run anything higher than 1/2.

For what it's worth, Players South at Plymouth and Levan only runs cash games Sunday-Tuesday with tournaments on Wednesday (I believe). The cash games move Wednesday-Saturday to the first Players Golf and Poker location at 8 mile and Farmington Road. Obviously this doesn't help you two days later, but it might help others looking for information.

Also, it's only 1-2 in these locations. It's almost impossible for a charity room to run a 2-5 game if they're going to run anything else. Just basic math, if a 2-5 game opens with a only 500 max cap, you're still only looking at 30 buy-ins before you're sold out of chips. It's hard to keep any bigger game going with the chip limitations.

The boiler plate answer these days is MCC during the day and MGM at night. It really depends on where some of the Players go at night. As well as how good the action is and how deep the list is for PLO games at MGM.

You know how a 2/5 Player typically drives action at a 1/2 table? Well, put a PLO Player waiting for a PLO seat in a NL 2/5 game and you basically get the same result. So run into a couple of those guys and you can have some fun. GL

Yeah thanks for the input. I realized that South wasn’t an option after some phone calls and went with Vision. Played the $35 turbo fest cause the cash list was too long for me to want to wait. Busted around 15th and jumped into cash till they closed. Relatively deep, good action game.

Anyone who hasn't been to Gun Lake (south of GR) may want to target Sept 14th as they will have $500 hourly HH to celebrate their 1-year opening. They will also have a PLO tournament on Sept 28th (Noon probably). There is a complete listing of promos in the WMich thread.

Also ... Poto (Milwaukee) was just 'awarded' another WSOPc slot from Sept 12-23rd. Quite the ambitious tournament location with 2 WSOPc now to go along with the 4 MSPT events during the year. Not sure how I missed this earlier but I don't follow the WSOPc as much as HPT and MSPT.

MSPT comes to FKeepers in mid-October, $1M will get passed as always. I think I saw about 60-70 in the first Saturday night $260 20% Satty. They also run $65 Sattys on Friday and Saturday Noon. GL

Lots of poker action in the Detroit area, Unfortunately I don't think they play football in Detroit or East Lansing.

Going downtown for the first time this Friday. So MGM is the best bet for 2/5? I plan on getting there 6ish and playing until midnightish. Considering I've never been there - can I call ahead? Will there likely be open 2/5 seats right at 6, if not, how long can I expect to wait? What is the pro to fish ratio?

I’ll usually check bravo poker app to see how many tables at each and how many on the list. And call in to both and then make my decision on the drive down.
