Strange way for DP to get to HPT-Chicago via MGM-Detroit .. and with no fan fare either? GL

Has anyone heard the rumor or have any information on Turtle Creek in Traverse City closing their poker room early this year? I use to make a trip up to TC a couple time a year and play. May have to look for new destination?

Have not heard this, but while we are in the nature of starting rumors...I have on good authority that there is a WPT deepstacks event coming to Motor City Casino in August. It will have $365 tourney and a $1100 I believe

It was full to start with a couple of action players from out of town but only lasted a couple hours. A few people went broke and some went to PLO.

Bummer that it didn't last long.

Rochester's favorite dentist .. NDavidson is a cool $178K better off this morning with his HPT title. His FT play was pretty spot on with controlled aggression, pushing Players to 'break' at the right time when he had monsters. He seemed to know how to handle each Player separately/differently, which usually plays well at a FT since the other Players get confused when they watch a hand their not involved in ... well done .. Played with Nick plenty in 2/5 and PLO cash during my time living in Detroit, and as a fellow father of a young child, I feel like I need to bink a tournament if our family is going to grow like Nick's has recently haha. Congrats to him.

I might come out for a poker weekend in March and am considering staying at MGM or Motor City Hotels - anyone know how if either of these do rates for poker players? My friend and I would play at least 50 hours combined if that matters.

Neither of them donunfortuantely. The rooms are very nice, but extremely over priced imo

You might have better luck staying at Greektown Casino/Hotel. The rooms are nice and about 1/2 the cost of MGM Grand. All 3 casinos are less than 5 minutes from each other.

Yeah the rooms are too expensive without getting some sort of discount, oh well. I'll check the rates at Greektown but that was my least favorite poker room due to having way less action than the other 2. Oh well. Thanks guys.

another question - how often does 5-10 run at MGM and Motor City?

Assuming you will be drinking and don't want to drive? There are plenty of decent hotels about 10-15 minutes away that will be $130 or less, even on weekends. I've even got a couple that let me check-in after an overnight session (4-5 am) and don't count it as a 'night' in the reservation ... with breakfast ... if the room is unoccupied.

As far as 5-10 ... what game? There has been a 5-10-20 NL game at MCC on Friday and Saturdays, sometimes with a feeder table, but I'm not sure if that player pool is keeping up. You can actually call ahead 'days' ahead of that game to get on the list. Returning players have priority when the game starts based on that list.

5-10 PLO can pop up at MGM, but I'm not sure if there's a set day/time for that. I've been lack on my Bravo tracking the last few months.

There is a 15-30 Limit game that can play very big, sometimes RxR, at MCC as well .. same deal .. priority list. GL

Thanks for the info answer20.

I meant 5-10 NL. 5-10-20 is probably too big for me unless I am running super hot and want to take a shot, but good to know and I'll keep my eye on the list while I'm there.

My buddy can actually get us a hotel through his work so we'll just do that. It would have been fun to stay right there at the casino property but not worth it for $250/night.

BBJ hit at GLake (9999 v str flush, $228K) .. so MGM is probably the state leader at $82K. Worst weather night of the year and those folks were rewarded!!

Not sure how much $$ is in the Turtle Creek promo fund, but they are closing on March 31st and starting on March 1st they will begin to filter the promo fund into the cash games. The promo fund 'must' be emptied by March 31st when they shut down. It's a bit pre Spring Break, but if you are a snow person ... or just want to get away for a bit and play some poker. Head up there and say Hello to Mike, he'll be there in Seat 3 or 7 I bet. GL

Just posted another vlog from my trip last July to Detroit - includes some HHs from 2-5 game at motor city.

watch it here

I'll be coming back out again in March as well. Bravo is saying Motor City is now trying to run a 5-10 NL game on Saturdays so I will keep an eye on that and probably play it if it looks good.

Anyone know how often or how many times the bad beat has hit at Motorcity since they changed it over to the static $30,000 for Aces full of Kings being beaten?

I feel like it's not hitting as much as they thought it would and in turn they haven't given away as much money as they expected, but maybe I just haven't been playing at the right times (and admittedly, I haven't been there as much in the last couple weeks)

I asked the floor about this after they changed it. They are using the extra monies to fund the daily promos. The longer it doesn't hit, the more they will up the high hands.

I think its a pretty silly change and might hurt them. All the promo hunters will run over to MGM when the bad beat swells.

Edit: Also, according to MCC mgmt, they are ironing out details of bringing WPT to MCC. No specific event details as of yet. Just know its going to be August. Hoping they do a good job, it would be nice to have a regular stop nearby. Apparently their plan is to clear out 1/2 the slots on the bottom floor to accommodate the field. Hopefully they do it in advance or get some good filtration system for the smoke.

Do you know if it's going to be televised?

No idea. Next time I am down there i'll ask. I am sick as hell and am heading to Vegas on Thursday, so I likely won't make it down there until the 22nd. My best guess is it will be live streamed on the internet, but not televised.

It still isn't listed on the WPT site, so they must still be going over buyin/logistics. I am hoping its a smaller buyin. I don't have the roll to be playing in a 5-10k.
