All the charity rooms in Michigan are 18+.
You can play at any of them, tourneys are fun, cash games can be really juicy.

Like others have said you have all the charity rooms. As far as casino poker, off the top of my head you have:

Soaring Eagle Casino in Mt. Pleasant (18 and older)
Turtle Creek Casino by Traverse City (18 and older)
Caesars Windsor (19 and older)
Kewadin Casino in Sault St. Marie and St. Ignace (19 and older)

Yeah Northvilles tourney structures are defitnally not chainsaw approved. Just have to adjust I guess(and run good)

Are there any good MTT's @ the Casino's downtown?

Only noticed the sched to greektown i think and rake seems absurd. $50+15? eek

ex mtt-sng/mtt full time online player here looking to grind MTT's & network with other local players for the time being while online is chaos. don't want get rusty by a prolonged break until a new regulated site emerges so figured live donkaments would be the best way keep sharp

No. I think charity rooms take a similar rake from the tourney entry fees don't they?

I'm curious to know what ones win rate would be trying to grind these out with 20 percent rake, really awful structures, and 15 hands an hour. Most places only have 30-50 dollar tournaments with a 100 dollar one at the end of the month. Can't remember what the payout are for these things, but they're often chopped up near the end when average final table stack is 5-7bb.

i like MotorCity Casino, i was there last week and the bad beat was a ridiculous $340k you have to get Quads over Quads to win it

Well it looks like I might be returning to live cash game NL hold em on weekends due to the government telling me it's immoral to play sng's online in my house. I haven't played much live cash NL over the past 3 years and don't consider myself to be a great cash game player, but from what I remember the 1-2 NL games at the casinos on weekends are still probably the easiest games in poker. I know I can beat those games for a good hourly rate, I don't know about playing during the week though. From my experience, playing on a Monday-Wednesday seems to be a lot harder of a game than a Saturday night - Sunday night game, especially if you are not a great cash game player.

I am absolutely sickened by thought of paying a $7 rake at these casinos, that is outrageous. IMO the bad beat jackpot is a complete joke and wish none of the casinos had it. It's basically like playing a even money lottery. If your a reg at a casino with a bad beat jackpot it ends up costing you thousands by the end of the year.

Also, I have played once at Northville Downs and ended up winning the tournament there. Even so, I have never really been tempted to go back and play another tournament there because the 20% rake is unbeatable IMO no matter how terrible the players are. The only tournament that looks reasonable to me is if you end up buying into the Sunday Northville downs tournament with a $150 buy in. If you register a few days before you can get in for $120, so that takes a large percentage out of the 20% rake that you are paying.

Well those are my thoughts on live poker. Oh well, it is what it is.

Oh yea, and even if I was playing against 100 people who were mentally challenged and have never played the game before in their lives, I would still not pay a 30% rake.

Well, now that online is done for the unforseeable future, it looks like I'll be trying harder and harder to get that live PLO8 game going lol. I've been grinding 7 days a week lately up until Friday. If there is still an interest for this, please let me know, and I'm sure we have a wider window of free time to make this work now lol. Reply on the thread so we can all see the interest.

Also, does anybody have money on cake they'd be willing to transfer for cash? Please PM me for that

I'm in for Saturdays and maybe Sundays. Not for two weeks unfortunately (Vegas TR in there somewhere). Hope we get some more PLO8 lovers out there.

Last I heard charities take 20% from the total prize pool and a cut to pay dealers (which of course varies depending on the number of dealers).

Hi, guys. Just reading all the Black Friday threads, and the one thing that keeps coming up in my mind about Michigan online poker grinders in specific is where are they going to play? Let's face it, to play for a living playing B&M poker, you need to be at a $5/$10 or better unless you're living with your parents still. What rooms have this kind of action in Michigan? MCC already has 2-3 hour wait times. And I believe that is the only place in the Detroit Metro area spreading these high stake games (5/10 and above). Even if places like Greektown and MGM wanted to spread these games now, where would the fish come from for these games?

I think much more likely is that our proximity to Canada will make online grinders jump borders, but then again, what are the legalities of such a move? Seems like unless you live near Vegas or LA or maybe AC, you're screwed. Then again, I think most people who are not panicking are hoping things will clear up and they'll be able to play online soon again. But how soon?

Yes the rake is ridiculous at the casino's but I was wondering if anyone plays the Greektown MTT schedule and if so what is the field size/payout structure 10%+? and I am not sure what the level structure is based on their site (time).

I was recently put into unemployment in February from a Management position and was starting to put in volume on FT, I have never played live at the casino's just at the currently defunct Rounders on 15 and groesbeck.

How hard would it be to get set up in Canada? If you live in the Detroit area it's not that far of a drive across the border. Now I might be really off base here, but could you go to Canada and get a P.O. Box, then stop by a bank there and open a checking or savings account, get your self a wireless internet card from Bell or Rogers and have a Canada IP address.

Jump on Tilt or Stars open a new account with your P.O. Box for your address, make a deposit, and get back to playing.

I don't know, maybe I am just being dumb here (sounds too simple), but would something like that work ???

From what I understand of the sites new policies you have to show your ESTABLISHED residence in said country. Therefor you have to provide bills and I.D. with the current residence so I believe this shuts down our simple avenue of opening accnts/P.O.'s I think it would take us about 3-5 mnths to be capable of setting the whole scheme up and only see it as a loss in the short term *year*
On top of this hassle I feel that by the time line provided we would be up and running w/i legal standards on a gov't issued site or we are just offline for good there is no way of telling atm.

There is a group in the online thread talking about using Canada (from NY) and what may be involved with it. They have some decent ideas and think it might be possible. I know there are hoops to jump through and we still have to see what the sites will allow but I know its something I want to look into. Maybe rent and set up some a grind apparentment with some people from this side.

Please link threads I think it would be possible to setup an apartment w/ multiple residence. (not sure what limit would be)

I haven't played at the Detroit casinos in a few years what kind of games can I expect like during day time hours 11am-5pm type of thing? Any small donkaments at any of them or some $1/2 NL that gets at least some action where I can get in a game right away but not have to the point where I'd have to be put on a long waiting list?

MC is the only place that spreads 5/10 and higher w/ any regularity. MGM used to have it on Fridays only and it was one of the best games. Unfortunately for whatever reason that game died out 3-4 months ago....maybe because of the MC badbeat? MGM used to allow you to buy in for $1,000, but that also changed a few months back and now it's $500 max again.

With regards to your question of how soon, while this might not be the right thread I'll give my opinion since I already commented on something related to Detroit poker ;-)...I might be in the minority because I think this crackdown might end up being good for online poker. Sure I've got some money tied up and might not ever get it back, but the skill vs. luck argument will probably be settled a lot faster now that ftp and stars are shut down in the US and their owners have been indited. Are poker sites in violation of the bull **** UIGEA which was back doored at the 11th hour or not? I think 6 counts were based on them violating the UIGEA and the poker sites always said that they weren't in violation because poker isn't gambling as much as it is a game of skill (paraphrasing).

I think party poker is going to again be the number one online site when things get started again, however I fear that might not be anytime this year. I just hope rakeback is still available. Is empire poker still around?!

Hey Guys. I am a Detroit live regular.. and other than business related income that will be gone in some ways I'm relieved I can no longer play online.. Live takes more paitents and elements of impossible bad beats don't show up as much..

MC is the best place to play unless you want to go to MGM on a Friday then that is also good. The wait has not been bad if you hit it right.

For live tournaments Greektown is a bingo match after an hour and 20 minutes.. The blind/time structure sucks a huge one.. You can literally go into the final table with 25% of what's in play and bust 0 because of the structure..

The best live tournament structure is the Windsor monthly (second saturday I think.. 800-991-7777 x 6).. I think they also have a decent structure for their weekly as well but I have not been going over there much.. Only for the monthly. NOTE if you go to Canada don't carry if you have a CPL and don't forget your passporte because coming back they are some what nazi esk at the border.
