I know that complaining about the smoke at MCC and MGM (to a lesser degree) is kind of like complaining about the cold weather in MI. But after playing at MGM on Saturday, I decided to switch to GT full time just to get away from the smoke. After playing a 4 hr session at MGM, I felt disgusting all over..

Anyway, in a few words, how would you describe the 1/2 action + players at all 3 DET rooms currently? I have my own thoughts, but I’m interested to hear opinions from local regs. Thanks in advance!

Played at Malarkey's tonight. Let me answer for you. That is the worst structure in the history of poker. From 40 down to 18 in 2 hours WITH a break.

Notice that Malarkey's is relenting the Thursday 'day' shift to Vision Lanes but is open on Thursday nights along with Vision.

1-2 action in the state of Michigan is so varied you will just have to be able to read each table for what it's worth. I've heard about huge stacks at GT and there are a ton of shorties at MCC looking for the BBJ. The most reliable 'rule' that I use is that if a higher stake is being offered, and running, then the lower stake will be much weaker ... you better be ready to double barrel at pretty much any 1-2 table you sit at. Not to mention its the most random tournament in the world. Some people are raising 6x the bb and getting 4 or 5 callers. Its a free for all

Charity tournaments are always a puzzle .. same players pretty much all the time, constant chopping even if they haven't cashed in months. Last one I saw was a Build-a-Stack ($30-50 w unlimited $10 add-ons available) ... $600/300 for 1st/2nd. They chopped and gave $120 to the Dealer, thus take home was $390 each. I guess they have BI for the next 6 events!

Players either want to chip up or get back to cash table via the strange raises .. GL

Greektown is still a punchline even with better action. I saw an angleshoot + slowroll, a complicit dealer, and a clueless staff (hostess is REALLY sexy too which is an unfortunate distraction). MGM is splashy w/maniacs and bloated pots akin to a charity game. The serious players are at MCC, most enjoyable game if you’re not sensitive to smoke.

Hahahahah.

Smaller pots, fewer maniacs, and "more serious players" at MCC makes it a *better* game?
Should move up to where they respect your raises.

If you're playing $2/5 or bigger, MCC is the place to play. If you're playing $1/2, you should be *anywhere* else.

9,000 Posts and still thinks like this. But Poker is dead, right?

Right now every reg in MI is going to MCC to try and hit the mill-ball. MGM and Greektown games are better because of it. So if you can avoid that lottery-ticket mentality, you'll benefit by playing in looser and more action-oriented player pools.

Can you describe the angle shot and/or the player in more detail? If the player is a regular, it would be nice to have that info so I can spot right away. Thanks!

You can buy in for up to the largest stack at the table.

So much wrong with this post. Also she's not a hostess.

This regards tipping, and the bad beat.......40% 420,000 dollars. What do you tip the dealer? 20% 210,000 dollars, what do you tip? How about table share, 56,000, what’s the tip? Does it matter if the dealer is good or bad dealer?

I'd probably start a counter in my head and tip them $2 for every hand they didn't deal while we waited. Duh.

the only really good looking girl in greektown is amanda who works the front desk, and as far as i know doesnt have a boyfriend. pretty sure the people who like the BBJ at motor city arent the regulars, the regulars like regular payouts every once in a while, high hands etc, but its the slot mentality players who want to hit a big jackpot who go to motor city.

as to what u should tip? this depends on your source of income, if its from poker and u are a minimum wage $1-2 NL grinder id tip 1-2%. work as a dealer? id tip 10%. work a high paying job and dont care about the money? id say at least 5%

Tipping on something that big is a tough one .. and there's plenty on this site to read about as well. Some say $0.00, as it's a 'player's' pool of money that they are just holding onto for us. Some have a set percentage as high as 3%.

Even in my cash game play I tip based on a percentage of profit. The more I win off that Dealer the more I tip. Whether that's fair or not is another discussion. But I think in this case here I would cap it at $2500 and then toss around some green (maybe black) chips to some of the other Dealers in the room. I might use the same cap whether or not it was the loser or winner's share of the BBJ.

I would use the same type of method if I ever scored huge in a tournament. I would tip a 'meager' amount to the pool and then 'properly' tip each Dealer the next time I see them at a cash table based on how I ran with them during the tournament. Obviously this method would only work in a room I'm a reg in. I'm not a huge fan of pool tipping (a la SEagle) and Dealers can get fired for accepting 'favors' outside 'the office'. No one can tell me what to tip at a cash table! (As long as I don't specifically state that it was a 'tournament' tip.)

There are stories out there that at Harrah's of Joliet the Dealer pool got about a total of $4800 or so (maybe $6k) from the $700K BBJ that hit there ... and they weren't happy about it one bit! In that room the Dealers pool all tips, but only with the other poker Dealers .. not the pit.

Tipping is certainly a touchy subject .. that's why it has it's own thread on this site as well! GL

PS ... I have long said that if I ever win the PowerBall that the clerk who ran the ticket will be getting $10K from me for sure. Typically the store gets $10K, but that doesn't mean that the owner shares it!

Heading to the Red Wings game tomorrow and looking for some advice from a local.

Do any of the casinos offer free parking and are walkable to the arena?

Yes they swipe your Mlife card and you get comps for poker. I think $1/hr. Your comps are good at any mgm property. So you can earn comps at MGM in Det and use them in Vegas or any mgm property, like Aria, Mandalay Bay, etc and vice versa.

As far as I know, MCC and MGM both offer free parking. On most nights, if you have a Club Metro Card (MCC) they have a shuttle to/from the arenas on game nights. The cards are free, you just need to register at a window. MGM has the neat machines that you feed your driver's license into and you can go people free.

I have walked from MCC to Ford Field multiple times, even at night, without issue so that is an option as well. From MCC to LCA should be no issue at all IMO. GL
