MGM has a poker room grand opening party on Monday.

Anyone got any feedback on the 25/50 plo that runs at mgm? I see it occasionally when I miss you guys and check bravo. Wondering if it's a semi-private (don't want to explain this but I can if I have to) game or if it's totally open to public. Also is it just right there in the main room?

MCC a few months back had a promo where players that hit a given # of hrs for the month were given an Asus tablet. might have been what was meant by "ipad."
in January the promo was a high hand bonus for ANY royal, not just suit of the day, and it was always refilled to a minimum $2k.

about MGM PLO, it used to run in the same upstairs room as the rest of their poker. they've have like 3 1-2 running in the front then a couple vacant tables and the PLO in the back.

So does MCC has players swiping in at the tables now? How do they track hours? I think I've played at MCC in the last 3 months and didn't see any players card action.

Last time I was there they still didn't have a Bravo or fake Bravo system because they're cheap unprofessional bastards. They were checking in people's cards at the desk for the hours I thought. But that was before Christmas.

The MGM game is open to the public. Same room, usually tucked in the back corner out of the way. I heard they were running $25/$50 with a $300 straddle. So I think the game may be insanely deep.

Thanks for the explanation

Used to get free Card Player mags at Greektown back in the day. 🙂

They had players give their players card to the front desk when they checked in (was probably supposed to be when they were seated, but the day shift floors just swiped you in when you got to the room).

October was free Bose ear buds (I think this was 40 hours), November was a free Asus tablet (60 hours I believe). They were going to do a free roll tournament for anyone who played 80 hours in December, but then cancelled that plan when they started giving away at least $2000 for any Royal Flush instead.

Last I was there, it was 10/25 with a $50 straddle. That being said, as the game goes on, I have a feeling the game may get bigger, especially if they're still playing with a no-max buy-in. I could be wrong on the blind structure, but that's what it was about 6 months ago when I played a few times. Back then, it seemed as the game went on, they often wanted to up the blinds and it's entirely possible that they're now playing 25/50 from the start.

As for MotorCity and Bravo (or something similar), other than not knowing how many tables they have open, I actually like their system better than Bravo. Through the MCC website or the casino's App (I know it's available for iPhones, I would assume there is one for Android as well), you can put yourself on the list, see which games are open, and see where you're at on the list. Like I said though, it'll tell you there is a 2-5 hold 'em game going, but it doesn't tell you if there's 1 table or 3 tables of it going, which would be nice to know. You do have to have a player's card to do this, but there's no reason not to have a card if you play there with any sort of regularity.

Pretty smart timing on their part. It's the same day as the Red Wings Charity tournament at Motorcity so they'll be closing the main poker room at 4 PM on Monday (leaving just the 5 tables in the outer room open for a few hours until the tournament starts losing tables). The giveaways are pretty lackluster (dinner for two at Breeze, dinner for two at the steakhouse, dinner for two at the Italian place, dinner for two at TAP, one free night in the hotel, and dinner for two at the buffet). They are doing a high hand every hour for $100 and if no one qualifies (no idea what is needed to qualify), they're going to roll that $100 into the next hour.

I also believe Greektown is having some sort of giveaway on Monday to keep players from heading to MGM for the grand opening party, but I never play there any more, so I don't know specifics

I got an email on Greektown's promo. It's $500 high hand each half hour from 10am-10pm which rolls to the next half hour if no one hits it...it doesn't say what hands qualify.

Minimum qualifying high hand is a Full House (Ace’s Full of Two’s) and use at least one card in your hand in any live Texas Hold’em poker game.

It doesn't explicitly say so, but you might need to be playing on a Greektown membership card as well. But no big -- they actually give dollar an hour comps now, so it's worth a lunch per playing session to have one anyway.

I'll be at the MGM opening event tomorrow night from about 6pm onward. Feel free to come by and say hi. Always happy to do pics and such whenever I don't have a live hand.

Cheers, Greg Raymer (FossilMan)

Good luck today guys. Greektown at 12 tables (max for them?) with a 70+ list for 1-2. MGM with a huge list, two tables from maxing out, must be short on dealers. Wanted to duck out and hit MGM this afternoon, might not be worth the wait.

Guys, this is proof of what I've been telling you detroiters for the better part of a year now, high hand promotions triumph over all.

In florida, Daytona/Isle/PBKC all have similar high hand promos (not some ****ty $100 every hour bs) and they generate significant action and player population. Tell MGM to get rid of the BBJ and to just do high hourly high hands. They will have to expand 4x their current room size

how often does 5/10 run downtown these days? I popped into mcc last Saturday and there was a list with no table at 10pm.

I've noticed it at MCC most Friday and sometimes Saturday... and yeah I was going to go to MGM after work today but not with that many in list...

I would assume that given the success of the high hand promotions that the JACK Cleveland has experienced, they would try more of these at Greektown (same company). However, Cleveland has a much busier room, pushing 20+ tables on big promo days. Hard to do great promos when you max at 12 tables and normally your traffic is only 3-4 per day.

I think MGM could pull it off. They are now open 24 hours and traffic is picking up at 1-2 and 2-5 since the room is superior to MCC IMO. Staff has said to me they are considering expanding more and are considering other big/good changes.

Arrived around 5:30, place was packed 50+ on lists.

Raymer showed up about around 6:30. Little speech, daughter at M, suggested photos and autos but did not appear to be many takers. I am guessing most didn't know who he is.

He played PLO and left an hour later to eat(?). I left around 10:00 and he did not appear to be in the room. He is a personable guy and though he would work the room but nope.

In the PLO game 1/2 hour after I arrived.

About an 1/2 hour later moved to $1-2.

Nice buffet and Red Bull.

They took my player's card and entered me in the raffle and gave me a MGM polo shirt.

Well staffed and an older, well behaved crowd.

The PLO and NLHE action was as usual since they were all regs at my tables.

Sometimes the give-away days are a nit fest.

They are talking about expanding room in a couple of months.

Hate the smoke.

Yea you really need 20+ tables to pull it off, bc you are immediately funding the prizes (unlike a BBJ which accumulates). So you need the promo rake to feed the promo payout. Judging by the lists I always see for you guys up there, 20 tables shouldn't be a problem.

MGM just needs to take action and realize there is a huge poker market up there and that poker revenue is incremental to other gambling revenue (most casinos think there is no difference between a slot and a poker table, not realizing that many poker players solely play poker)

Weird, it was infinitely better than motor city when I visited (only been once so far). I was literally getting sick on my visits to MCC. (I'm sure travel+work+10 hour sessions wasn't helping )

Hope I didn't just catch them on a good night bc I want to go to mgm from now on with my visits.
