So kinda a crazy hand/donation when it gets late and people are in the gamble mood from last night that I overheard from another table when it broke...on river there is 4 to flush out there and about 160 in pot. It Goes check. 200, min raise to 400,all in and call for about his last $700+. Just crazy how it goes from a $160 to $2200+ that quickly.

my Vegas TR continued...

played the $235 yesterday, grinded a starting stack for like 3 hours. Finally shoved J10hh, got called, flopped the world, got there... Was around 2xstack for a while, went card dead, shoved A9hh into Ak and qq gg. was 30 away from $ at that time. (47/320ish got paid, 14k up top.)
Last night I was pretty dejected and drained, decided to try one last tournament, $135 buyin. Only 50 people in it. As I'm playing, I look at the table next to me and Lon Mccaren is playing! Sweet. Had a decent run, got to the final table, seated right by Lon! Really cool, we talked a lot, table was fun, lots of alcohol involved. We were right next to the ME walk of shame, so a bunch of the ME losers stopped by to talk to Lon on their way out. Jason Somerville for one... Lon knew about our charity poker scene here in Michigan, he even knew that we've had issues w/ the rules and such.
I finished 7th in that, felt good to cash something. Made a sick bluff on the $ bubble. Shoved river on a 8 8 j q 6 board. I had 7 10, guy had a jack. We were both quiet for a while, he starts asking me stuff, I acted perfectly, got him to fold. Had to show the bluff. Woulda had a chance at the $1500 for first but shoved sb bb AJ into jacks.

anyhoo, fun trip, highlighted by getting to see the Main being played. Can you guys believe the laydowns that were made? folding quads???

ha, I saw the commotion near me when this happened.... Just before this, different drunk guy directly behind me got a one round penalty for berating a player. He comes to his new table, immediately looks at a guy with sunglasses, accuses him of being a pussy for wearing them lol.

Cunningham was eventually disqualified from the tournament but received his buy-in back.

Paid for being an AH.

Pretty quiet week across the board .. wsop let down ... heat wave ...

Small reminder that there are 5 Sundays this month ... $400 @ Firekeepers next Sunday!!

Good news is that an American Girl store is opening somewhere on the east side of the state ... which means at least one overnight opportunity when the wife and kids want to take a peek!! GL

What's the best tournament to play tonight?

Momos = medium turnout, worst play in the world, ok structure , $35 buyin.
Qoh = better play, lower turnout, good structure, $50 buyin.
Vision = play varies, great turnout, bad structure, $35 buyin.

I hear the tournament at 59 West gets a good turnout and has a good structure.

Are those how much money you have to lay out or are they rebuys?
I ask because most of the < $40 tournaments in the Grand Rapids area tournaments are rebuys.

I think that affordable tournaments are important. It's a lot to ask of someone who is playing micro tournaments online to lay out $50 or more for his first shot at a live tournament. There should be a reasonable beginner level for the 18-year-old high school student working part-time at McDonalds.

A few years ago there was a once-a-week freeroll tournament in Muskegon and I won one of them for a $100 cash. Of course I used some of that $100 buy into to a low-priced tournament and the room had a new regular customer.

I hear you, but poker rooms need to make money. Running something like a $20 tournament rarely makes the room money, let alone dealers who essentially earn their tips and not whatever waiter wage their earn.

Answer is friendly home game with friends, but those aren't as readily available as they were during the boom.

Per Bravo ... 25K chips @ 30 minute levels (1 re-entry). Not sure how the May one went, but the January one saw 181 entries and took until around 11 PM with a 4-way chop for $10K each.

Same structure as 'all' Sunday tournaments, just 10K more chips. GL

Yes, it would definitely be a loss leader, I understand that. Maybe something like that (it could be once a month instead of once a week or in other ways limit the cost) could stir up some interest in some of the metropolitan areas that don't have a charity room or a casino--Ludington, Holland and many others.

Kalamazoo + Portage is over 100K population and there are over 60K college students during the standard school year. I can't believe that it would take a lot to get a room going in that area.

I played the $240 yesterday. Wasn't super impressed w/ the structure. It was ok. bb was 100 200 400 600 800+100 1200+100 1600+200 etc. (10k more in the starting stacks next week will definitely help the structure.) 110ish runners. $7k up top. busted shoving jacks into kings w/ 5 tables left. I hear it went until about 8.
Hit four of a kind on Mississippi Stud right before I left Firekeepers lol. $5 bet --> $1600.

I think $50 is affordable to most people and If $50 is a lot to someone then the last thing they should be doing is gambling.

I think there is a 'double' level in there somewhere, maybe at 200 without and then with ante, then skipping the 300-600 level.

I agree that the $120 and $240 don't give you much time to build your starting stack, maybe 5-6 levels. If you are card dead then you're in trouble since you are bound to have 2-3 calling stations per table. I think if you late reg during the 1st break you start with 20bb, which would be higher in the $400.

8 PM finish sounds about right for the $240 ... Not sure if there's a re-entry in the $240. I know there's no re-entry in the $120. GL
