Hey, Nuke36. I haven't played there yet, but I'm probably going to check it out next week. Was going to go on Wednesday for their tournament night, but I'm doing an interview for our new Michigan Poker Monster podcast that night. What's the round by round on Thursdays? PLO8 and NLHE?

Actually they have various tournaments most nights. Wed just happens to be the one I've attended.

Omaha they have tournaments every night. The thurs and Sat are PLO8 and NLHE? Usually a pretty good turn out for each night.

This is confirmed for EVERY Thurs and Sat? I'm an O8 guy, and would love to mix up 24 tabling cash online once in a while lol. Someone asked earlier in the thread, and as far as O8 around here, here is what I know...

MCC used to run a game on Wednesdays and Saturdays. The stakes were $5/$10 with a full kill. Anytime someone scooped a pot over $70 or $80 (can't remember) the next hand became $10/$20. I used to have to arrive at 8am on Wednesdays just to have a seat, because if you didn't get there when the game started, you weren't getting on for HOURS. The game usually started around 9am, and ended sometime in the mid evening, I'd say 7pm or so. The traffic just started to slowly trickle away, and before ya knew it, the Wednesday game was no more, and then the Saturday game was no more either. I haven't been there in a few years but it was this way the last time I was there

A buddy of mine lives in Auburn Hills and told me about the charity room the Parrot club. It's a small stand alone poker room in the Lake Orion/Auburn Hills area and was told I needed to check out the LO8 tourney they ran, which was always a small field, and only had about 2 tables of people going (Only about 30 people TOTAL were there playing when I was there). It was funny to see people doing things like splitting their 4 cards into 2 groups of 2 on the table, so they knew which ones were the low ones, and which ones were the high ones . After bubbling the tourney (I finished 4th), we had a full table of $3/$6 LO8 going. Unfortunately at limits that low, only the house and maybe one player will be coming out on top.

I grew up in Sterling Heights and frequent the Utica area. There is so much action at Snooker's on a consistent basis, it's sometimes fun just to go and watch the action for a half hour if I'm bored out of my mind! It is also true, they from time to time do a RXR $1/$2 PLO and $2/$5 NLHE. This kind of sucks, I don't want to risk the money in a $2/$5 NLHE game to reap the rewards in a smaller PLO game. I haven't played NLHE cash in years, and don't really intend to anytime soon.

I would love to start a group with people who love Omaha, whether it's PLO, LO8, PLO8, or maybe even NLO8, it'd be great to try to get a night of some lower stakes action with something like that. I know how hard it is, when I lived in Las Vegas over last winter, we had a BITCH of a time trying to get ONE game of PLO8 going. Every place was cool and said they'd gladly spread PLO8 if there was demand, and if I didn't know the card room manager somewhere, somebody I knew DID, so they were all very receptive, but the player pool just wasn't there unfortunately. However, the idea of seeing if one of these rooms (maybe snookers would be best because of the established consistent volume) would be open to us trying to start a weekly $1/$2 PLO8 or NLO8 game sounds like a great idea. Who else is interested in this? Who knows, NLO8 might catch on live lol

As an 08 fan I'll say good luck getting a game going. Obviously the best thing to do would be to talk to a manger and try and set up a game at the same time every week, and make sure you bring your friends. Also gonna be lol at the dealers trying to deal plo8.

great idea to get a regular O8 game going. I think you are going to have a lot better luck by starting with a limit O8 game first, rather then a PLO8 game. Keep us posted as to where and when. thx.

The home game that I usually play in is almost always PLO8, but it hasn't been running very often. I would definitely support a PLO8 game at a local room, but I wouldn't be able to make it every week. Maybe every other week depending on work and family.

Good luck.

I cannot count the number of times guys have tried to start some sort of regular Omaha Game around here. Every single time it either fails from the first or fizzles quickly. There just seems to be a few passionate and vocal players and then a few more who say "Yeah, I like Omaha, I'm in." but never make the commitment.

The "Omaha Snobs" (I say that with all the love in my Heart - I am proud of my own Snobbery in other areas) have been predicting the eventual uprising of Omaha vs. Hold'em, but it just never seems to gain a critical mass. Personally, I think Omaha games are fine, but I am terrible at them. I have Zero Edge at the game. Frankly, I'd rather play 7-Stud.

I hear everyone on this, and I agree it wouldn't be the easiest thing to start. Think about it, what's the difference between a dealer dealing PLO or PLO8? It's exactly the same until the END of the hand when it comes to shipping the pot(s). The problem with limit O8, is, unless you're playing stakes like $8/$16 or higher, you need to be VERY good, or VERY lucky, or else the house is the only one to come out on top.

That's why, if people are fans of O8, I say, let's try something crazy like no limit omaha hi-lo. The reason I suggest that is for a few reasons...

1. The game just attracts gamblers
2. It has that novelty/crazy appeal to someone who has never played before
2a. Hold em people LOVE no limit betting
3. If you know O8, you can have an edge unlike limit
4. The betting is easier to understand than pot limit
5. As far as the dealers go, think about it, if a game like this runs, there will probably be a few of us sitting in it that are experienced, and I never have a problem helping a dealer out.

I guess part of this is all wishful thinking on my part. I feel if like 5 of us could commit to a night, weekend would probably be best, we could get a couple people to fill the rest of the spots. Hell, if we get serious enough, I could probably have one of my graphic arts friends draw up a little flier to post on the walls in snookers "No limit/Pot Limit Omaha hi-lo coming soon" lol, just to see what sort of response it would get. The fact that 4 people responded to this in a matter of hours shows there are at least opinions about the matter which is a good start ha. I mean hey, what's the harm in just trying this out, and if it doesn't really work out to be a consistent thing, wouldn't it be fun to have for ONE day at a poker room?

I forgot to mention in my earlier post, Pampa Lanes on Van Dyke in Warren had a charity room running. During a PLO tourney at Sunnybrook a few years back a guy told me to check out the weekly PLO8 game that runs there. I went one day on an early Friday evening, looked around, was surprised to only see 2 partially filled tables, and 2 "ballers" in their scarface long tees and psychopathic records hats tipped to the side playing blackjack. I talked to the man I was told to meet, and he told me that on Sundays they had a $1/$3 PLO8 game that ran, with usually 6-7 people. I went 3 weeks later, and the room didn't even exist anymore...

p.s. I mentioned this in the marketplace, but figured this wouldn't be a bad place either. Is anyone interested in moving into a grind house starting early May? I have one guy right now, but we're looking for 2 more to fill a 4 bedroom. You'd be looking at $400-$500 before bills, thanks!

I know 2 people that would commit to this just to have something different to play, who are far from Omaha experts, and 3 is a good start! I'm going to post in the Omaha-8 forum now and see if anyone is in Michigan also and interested. Will keep you guys updated!

The O8 game at MC doesn't run anymore. Or maybe it still runs on Wed, but I'm just not there on wed. It definitely doesn't go on Saturday unless it's really early in the am. I don't know what happened to it, however w/ the bad beat jackpot at over 300k and the other one over 100k they probably told the O8 people they weren't going to run that game.

Well guys, I stopped in 5 Star Lanes tonight. I walk into the poker room, and I do like the way it's set up. The have about 8-10 tables, and posters on the wall, all poker or gambling themed. Unfortunately, only 2 tables were going, but I talked to the card room manager Fred, who was very friendly and receptive to the idea. He said they run $1/$2 PLO from time to time and gave me the name and number of the manager over at Pampa Lanes on 13 and Van Dyke. I told him about how I went there, was told they ran a PLO8 game, then the next time I showed up, the place was just flat out closed for business! He assured me they're back, and just had some troubles a couple years back...

I get to Pampa, and see they only have one table of cash going, and a full table of blackjack. The manager was also dealing blackjack so I only got a few words in with him. He told me that they do once in a while run PLO8, but it's very sparingly. I asked him if I brought a table of people would he run it, and he said "gladly, and I'll cap the rake at $3". That's a bonus for sure!

Having said all that, Snookers is still at the top of my list. They have so many people in there playing at all times, and I'm sure we could get a few stragglers to sit down, and try it out. The idea of 7-9 of us going to a charity room, sitting down playing our game just isn't appealing to me if there are only 12-15 other players in the room at the same time. If that's the case, we might as well just try to start a home game (not opposed to that as well!). I'll be going in tomorrow to Snookers, probably sometime late afternoon/early evening and will let you guys know what happens.

I just went to Snookers and talked to the manager. He said he'd be ok with spreading our game, but just wants to be sure that we have a few dependable people to show up for it. I gather if they're going to promise a game, they'll be scheduling another dealer perhaps that normally wouldn't be scheduled?

Thx for all the legwork. Did mgr at Snookers say anything about rake? Also, what night of week are you thinking?
Detroit Quote

He did not, I forgot to ask, but I think it'd be a safe bet to assume the rake would be normal. As far as night of the week, I'm open every night, whatever works best for everyone works for me. He asked me to call back in a few days and we could talk about what day(s) would work best, so all I need now is input from everyone. He said both PLO8 and NLO8 would be fine with him

I'll be hitting up Snookers on Thursday to talk to the cardroom manager. It looks like Friday or Saturday would be our best day, and I'll try to set something up early in April, while making sure everyone here knows about it. Maybe anyone who wants to can PM me when they see this and I can let you know what day we'll be doing this.

Hey guys I just moved to Ann Arbor and am excited to play in some of the Detroit casinos-- I've heard Motor City is the best for NL, is this true? Also, are there any casinos that spread PLO/when does it usually run? Last question, I have a friend who is coming to visit that loves Limit and wants to play 10/20-- Best casino/time for that? Thanks for all the help and maybe I'll run into some of you guys soon!

Ivan, these are common questions and if you search a few pages back you'll find the answers.

MC now has free pizza as well as hot dogs and their other sandwiches, etc...

Ivan - welcome to SW Michigan. As Otter suggests, page thru this Thread and the Michigan Charity Room Thread. Some good overviews of the local rooms. I don't think you're going to find much 10/20 Limit locally.

Let us know any specific questions - we SW Michiganders are a pretty responsive bunch.

Hey guys, I run a home game on Friday nights and we play HOPE (hold'em, omaha hi, pineapple, and omaha/8). Low stakes, PM me for details. Ann Arbor area. We have a few regs who are always there, and a few more who come from time to time. Would love to get a couple more people.

You definitely want to check out some of the Michigan Charity Poker rooms in the area. There are some decent rooms around the area with some really good games, they can be quite lucrative
