So... anyone who played in the Johnny G game last night have a TR? Heard another player walked out with a grand. Who are the main characters driving the action there?

Al seems to have friends.

BURTON, Michigan -- Former Flint Police Chief Bradford Barksdale fatally shot a masked gunman who shot his way into a locked poker room early Wednesday in an apparent robbery attempt, the business' co-owner said.
Barksdale was among those playing poker at about 1 a.m. when the suspect broke into the Palace Poker Room on East Bristol Road near Fenton Road, according to Al Crossnoe, who owns the business with son Adam.

Barksdale's involvement was confirmed by numerous other sources.
Barksdale, who stepped down as chief in 2004, is a regular at the poker room, Al Crossnoe said. The Journal could not reach Barksdale for comment.

The masked suspect -- who has not been identified -- blew open a locked door with a shotgun and descended on a crowd of people playing poker about an hour before closing time at the business, Burton police said.
Authorities have said one retired Flint police officer and one off-duty officer were among the 40-50 people ordered to the floor as the suspect waved his gun.

Burton police said one of the officers then pulled out a gun and fatally shot the suspect. It's unclear how many shots were fired.
Crossnoe believes Barksdale made the right decision based on the circumstances.

"The guy's dead, and that's unfortunate," said Crossnoe, who was in the hall at the time of the shooting. "He may just have saved someone's life."
The police report on the shooting will go to the Genesee County prosecutor's office to determine if it was justified.

Hey, 40-50K means not having to work as a nurse any more. That would work for me.

Anyone else think that' pretty realistic in the Detroit area?

Possibly. But I would highly highly recommend you keep your job as a nurse. That is a very good job and there are a ton of people in Michigan who would die for that job. Plus poker becomes way less fun when you are playing it for your main source of income.

I think it is pretty hard for most people to make a living in Michigan doing anything. Period.

That being said, I agree with Sevup that there are people that do just play poker for a living and do fine. I would think that if you wanted to be a pro poker player you would leave Michigan and go some where else.

Also, 2b9s made a great point about keeping your job. I would always recommend having a good steady income and playing poker on the side. Life seems to be more enjoyable when I am not stressed out over money.

I know alot of people in this thread have day jobs but I would love to hear from someone who doesnt and whose only income is poker. They would be able to answer your question the best.. Plus I would like to know also

Sorry Tank, call it like I see it. And from what I read I am not the only person that has been knocked down on the list at Snookers....

I played at Rounders often, i liked it there, plus it was close. But I do not own a poker room, wish I did!

I did look at your profile, and besides you, NOBODY ever talks about the room in Mt Clemsons...? In fact 18 of your 20 posts mentions it...? Hmmmmm....

I fit in the middle here because although I don't have a job, Me and my girl do have rental property which covers living expenses (mortgage and utilities)
We have a mutual account for our rental income and separate accounts for ourselves. I play poker 3 times a week (usually 8hr sessions) and make enough money to support my wild spending habits clothes, shoes, eating out, partying, vacations and all while keeping a solid poker bankroll. My mother tells me I only blow money the way I do because i don't earn it by working for it. She thinks its nuts to spend $300 on a tournament Lol.
I think if NOT having the rental property covering the bills I could still make a comfortable living playing poker in the Detroit area only playing 4 days a week. But twoblack9s is right, this year playing cash was getting boring which is why I have been travelling to play tournaments a few times this year. So I don't think i would wanna play more than 4 times a week. That would be to much like a real job anyway Lol.

So I take it no one is playing the $100 Snookers today?

Also Jose posted something earlier about the $1000 tournament at Ceasars. I went there yesterday and it looks like a great tournament. It's on November 25. So the day after thanksgiving when everyone has off work and it runs for 3 days.

They have $120 satelittes pretty much every day at 10am and 8:15pm. Also they have a $220 super qualifier on November 23, which is what I am considering playing in.

1st place is guaranteed at least $75,000

If you aren't a nurse, then you can't say it's a good job. It's one of the ****tiest professions on the planet for many reasons I don't even want to go into - pay isn't everything. If someone told me today I would never be able to get out of the nursing profession I would put a bullet in my brain now.

the heads up tournament at NVD was run like a shambles. and it looked SO promising.

they didn't get 64 people, so even though i was the 31st person on the prereg list, and came and paid 40 minutes early, i had to sit around until 2 to play a 16-man shootout that was slapped together minutes before, while the 'scheduled' tournament became a 32-man.
