If the rumours are true and Cada's room offers better tournaments for ur money, I bet Snookers loses 70% of there poker players because that's what we all want and that's where we will spend our money.
Agreed?

When charity rooms run freeze out tournaments, they prob want it done as fast as possible. They already took their cut, and the longer the tournament runs the more it costs the room to run it. I think they would rather have faster tournaments and switch over to all cash game tables asap.

Why would a charity staff a two day tournament? They need the highest volume of tournaments to make money.

I think that's the whole idea too, Jose. Tournaments are a "loss leader" for rooms. So, if you can get the same amount of people in your room with a tournament that lasts 2 hours than one that lasts 4 hours, you do the two hour one, right?

If you make the buy-in big enough that the room is getting a huge rake on every player, then you can talk about great structures with slow levels and antes. But players in this Michigan economy seem to want to play $30-$50 tournaments, and they have to realize that the poker rooms are not going to get their monies by keeping those tournament games going for four or six hours. I'd say mathematically, small buy-ins equal fast structures, big buy-ins equal good structure. Unfortunately, small buy-in means a full room, and big buy-in might mean 3-4 tables.

Where can you play a live tournament anywhere for $100 buy-in with a rake less than 20%. Venetian has about the lowest in Vegas at a $150 by-in where the rake is about 16%. (Bigger money events are lower).

Plus with the current laws at only allow a 80% payout, deep buy-in tournaments are not practical in charity rooms.

in his post he said temperance. i looked it up, it's right at the michigan-toledo border. little less than hour and a half from me. i might check out a 2 day tournament, if the structure is actually worth it and they get a lot of people.

100% this.
And im pretty sure 90% of the field don't give a rats ass about tourney structure, they are just there for the amusement.

by the way i am not entirely on Dons nuts or anything. Josh, Don and Ray have been very fair to me and others. Even tho i didn't like one of their ruling they are consistent.
I'm sorry, i wasnt very clear. I ran the first 64 man HU tourney at NVD in May. I had to turn a couple of late players away. I saw that the great and all powerfull Snookers ran one a little while ago, with the exact same buy-in, structutre and pay out and could only muster a 32 man tourney and a side-tourney of 8 or 9.

Snookers is almost to big to fail now, but it can and possibly will with the Cada room opening. Their service is terrible, there is no control at the tables with the regulars, the dealers or observing the charity rules.

I know you all like to complain about tourney structure and games structure, but honestly comparing these charity rooms to downtown is apples to oranges. The rooms hands are tied or should be, with all the gaming rules and regulations and the fact that they have to make money for the charity(s) and themselves.

Plus they open and close, unlike the casino. The floor has to manage the business, juggle the charity(s) and dealers, offer up as decent a tourney and cash game schedule as best as they can and at the end of the night,,,get it all to balance. Like i said in previous post, i can make more money by running $100 max 1-2 games for 10 hrs. than i can run the BIG game 2-5 RxR and watch it end in 3 or 4 hours and see all the chips sell out.

I think you look at this the wrong way. The tourneys are soft, that should give us/those who have more knowledge of the game a distinct edge. It can also be a cheap practice range to try new moves, develop your hand reading ability and the kicker,, the cash games can be soft and juicy. As long as you can ride the rollercoaster of variance.

I agree the posts about the chatty dealers and the inept floors. I have been there, i have had to make some really, really tough decisions. I seemed to get more than my fair share of the goofiest rulings you have ever seen. But, as a player, as soon as you sit down, you are implicitly agreeing by the rules that govern that room and agree to the floor managers decisions. PERIOD. If you dont like how the room runs, go somewhere else. There are places I wont play in, there are places i play in, i am very careful when i play and do everything i can to protect my cards, my action. You have to decide if you want to JUST play or hope that one day Detroit poker will be equal to Las Vegas poker.

this is exactly why Electric Stick gets a ton of tournament players, and no cash games til 9pm.

And they are not giving 50% to charity.

I would like to say that I am keeping up on the posts and taking notes, while I do not want to post our tournaments schedule yet, I can tell you that I am a player and I know what players like in tournaments and structures. But keep in mind I also know that I will not please everyone no matter what I come up with.

I have run a room for 3 years, designed structures around what I would like in a tournament, not considering profit at all.

I think most players will really enjoy everything that we will be offering.
Well said sir. Looking forward to checking it out.

Called in for a spot in Snooker's tournament. My name not on the list when I got there and two guys who walked in were immediately seated. Favoring regulars means you don't get any new regulars. Comments are being made to help new rooms formulate their policies.

Went to Snookers a week ago, talked to Ray and was first one on the list, no other names were on there. I went to sit at the bar until my name was called, 10 min later a guy walks in, talks to Ray, then goes and gets chips and starts playing. I asked Ray why he didnt call me and he showed me this guys name on the list above the #1 line, actually were the word "name" was on the sheet and crossed off. I just left, does he really think that I am that stupid?

Done with Snookers. Plus a bunch of other bull**** there.

Well to be fair. I honestly thought Snookers had 64 people for their 1st heads up tournament. Which Mark won it for $3000 or $5000. that part i am not entirely sure about. The second Heads up tournament they had to cut it at 32 people. Well to be honest i thought it was their 2nd heads up tournament.

On your other point about the tourneys being soft. I agree. 100% i have made somewhere around 50% of the final tables of the games i have played. That of course is including the 2pm tourneys where there are not alot of people so it isn't that sick of a brag. Plus the regs who play there probably never make a final table. Most of them are retired and play for fun. To be honest part of it is i have had good results there.

On to you other point. When i started playing poker i started playing live. That quickly stopped and i switched over to online. It was more convenient and seemed easier. Also when i played i wasn't risking so much on my bankroll. I figured if i could study hard enough and get better i be successful. Online the players are more solid. Live play is a totally different game. To be honest the dealers chatter doesn't bother me compared to the same people who say the say dumb **** all the time. I figure it is the dealers trying to be personalble so they can get tips. After all that is how they make their money. I have heard how the dealers at Greektown are terrible. Part of that i imagine is because they pool the tips together. I bet if that changes and they got rid of some of their stupid rules and floor maybe people would start going back there. ( to be honest i have not been to Greektown in a long time. This is stuff i have been hearing on 2+2)

I think because i come from online i don't know all the stupid little rules. I didn't have to worry about people angle shooting or crying about bad Eddiquitte. you didn't have people slowing down the game. Money crossing the line etc.etc. etc. I guess because i don't know the rules these things don't bother me. I try to do my best not to muck my hand. and not to make a mistake with my chips. I guess basically my ignorance to live play rules keeps me happy. Online you didn't have to worry about that stuff.

Also i have would like to add that i consider myself a regular. I have called in to make sure i am on the list for the tournament. I feel i am well liked by the floor as i am a pretty optimistic type guy. When i walk into the door they take my name from the side of the list and then put my name down. If there are people in front of me they go first. i wouldn't ask to them to do that to another player who got there before i did. I am not saying it has happened But i will say this. it is possible those people went outside and had a smoke or something.
I had something similar happen when i went to the Secretary of State. I went next door got some food and when i walked in the door they called my number. Some dumb chick got angry and made a big deal about it. I had perfect timing. Even tho i was there 1 hour 15 minutes before. I am sure if you where to ask her still to this day she would say i got special treatment or i found some ticket or something.

Also to be honest i have called into 4 Aces and have had my name on the list. I came in and when my name was on the list that is when i got my seat to the cash game. Many places are different. To be honest i would play more at 4 aces but i don't want to play the rebuys with all of the people that want to gamble. i like the floor at 4 aces as they are really nice people. but i don't think their cash games run enough hours of the day for me to want to play there. usually it starts around 8:30 ish -9:30 and runs until 2am.

I have been wanting to check out a new place and try some smaller tournaments. And i been wanting to check out some other places. Also thought about grinding cash at Motor City as well.

Also just wanted to say that i thought snookers has some of the better service then some of the other places i have been. And as far as no control at the tables. I am really curious as to what you mean? Maybe it is my inexperience with live play. But i have seen the rules that where used against me up held against other people.

Also this is the last time i probably defend Snookers. I don't work there i don't get paid and i don't expect anything for being honest. I always call it the way i see it. I mean there is only 1 individual that i know of that is alittle bit loud with people, but i don't think he has really said anything that was brought to the floors attention for him to get kicked out.

All 3 times it was on a Sunday and Josh was the one running the list. I wish that game would get moved outa of Snookers and into a room that will seat people in order....

I am a poker room owner in Burton near Flint.. I can't play in my own room, so i drive the 50 miles to Snooker's to play once or twice a week. I think Snooker's is run better than most Charity room's. Service is great ( waitress near tables at all times) They have some of the best dealers around ( I guess that is why the new rooms go in there to try and hire them). (Train your own like we did)
It never fails when a new room opens they want on go into the busiest rooms around and spread the word about how good their room is gonna be. Also when a new room opens the Rumors start about other room's closing. As for Snookers and 5 star lanes closing that is a lie. They are both here to stay.

Was at Snookers tonight, good news and bad news.

Bad news:
Had AA56 double suited, someone made it 10 to go, I bump to 90 on the button, 5 callers (yes 5), flop 557, idiot that called 90 with A886 shoves ~200, and I re-pot to isolate, he rivers a 9.
Left ~1:55am up around $350, but still kinda sick that that hand got away from me.

Good news:
(other than the win)
They got rid of all the tables (8 ft tables afaik) and will be using brand new 9 ft tables starting tommor.
I did not get to see the new tables because they wanted everybody to leave to avoid any accidents, etc.
