This for sure. Charity Rooms are drying up for the most part. There was tons of action for a while but they just cant keep it. If the economy was good, I think they could probably keep the action going but if people dont have money and keep losing the money they do have, theyre going to stop playing.

The Casinos are meh, longish drive, high rake, the only reason I go there is for 2/5 action, but thats only been a few times.

If you can find them, Home Games are where the money is at by far.

To be honest, just because you have 2-4 games going doesnt mean that much. Theres a few Charity Games I use to frequent and sometimes till do that were loaded with action. I hear from the Room Manager that theyll have 2 tables going but what he fails to tell you is everyone is buying in for 50-100 and 2 people have 20-30 in front, a few have 50, a few more have 60-90 and then maybe 1 has a couple hundred.

Number of games does not mean good action.

How are you finding the home games in the area?

That is my main issue I have with the Charity games as well. Many times they start games with 5 or 6 and after an orbit or two the game is sometimes down to 3 because people by in so short and don't rebuy.

At least when it happens I am close to home so it is not a big inconvenience.

Well I found 2 by just playing in some Charity games. A guy invited me to one and then some of the same people play in another and invited me to that one as well. One of the guys that runs one knows people all over Metro Detroit.

It was really luck, but being friendly at the table and talking to people is probably what got me invited.

Heartland Poker tour will be at Soaring Eagle again May 22, $1650 buy in main event, with satellite qualifiers running all week before for the main event.

They run a "bigger game" everyday(although the blinds are still 1/2) along with 5-7 consistent cash games. The bigger game plays the same as a 2/5 as far as the size of the pots go though. Along with plenty of gamblers always willing to put their money in...

No RxR that I've ever seen in some time, I don't think I've been there on a Saturday in a long time so I'm not sure about the 2/5.

There are rooms at the Heidelberg and Belmark Lanes. I've never played at Belmark but the Heidelberg is a nice room but they usually only have 2 tables of 1/2 going most nights but the dealers and staff are very nice and knowledgeable. Wednesday's they have a $40 freeze-out that gets 3-4 tables usually.

The only casino (for poker) I've been to is Greektown and this was about 2 years ago (2008), so when I keep hearing "the new room is better", have they made a new one?

Anyway, my goal is to learn about the rake structure and what is the best way to go. I remember when I played at G'town the rake was 7$ every half hour. When checking MGM I found:

In your opinions would you rather be raked hourly or have it taken from the pots? And am I reading that correctly, "10% after each round up to $6"?

Through word of mouth (by people who don't know how to play poker) I hear that MGM is the best as far as poker goes, but on here I see a mix of opinions. Taking rake into consideration, what do you think is the best casino to play poker at? The 2/5NL games are the ones I'm interested in but would probably start off at 1/2 to get the feel for the live scene. Do you consider 1/2 to be a waste of time considering the rake?

I much prefer the pot being raked at $6 (than everyone paying every 1/2 hour). You end up paying a lot less especially at $1/$2.

I prefer MGM's room to Motor City. The problem with Motor City is that the lists can get really long when the bad-beat jackpot gets high. The atmosphere at MGM is also a bit more chill than Motor City. I have not been to the new Greektown room as of yet, but I have heard good things about it from
some fellow regulars.

Also, MGM started paying players $1 per hour on your players card. If they had this last year, I would have had nearly $1k on the card; so it's a nice little perk.

All the Detroit casinos use rake pots 10% up to $6 + $1 BBJ. The time charge went out a few yrs ago

Yeah this is pretty much spot on, but I have been there alot in the past couple weeks and the stacks almost always get pretty deep. Last night there was probably almost $4k on the table in a 1/2 NL 100-300 game and a ton of awesome action. The dealers are pretty cool too.

No Philly. Northville Downs used to have a round by round game but they switched to plo8. That's on Thursday. Actually I played at docs which had $2-5 Plo/NCL, but I wouldn't go back there again and don't recommend it. I think mc is trying to spread 2/5 rdxrd but no luck as of yet

Limit games in Detroit? I hear about them but what runs and when?

I wish man! I took a trip to Indiana and the horseshoe had a really good and fun 2/5/20(straddle) game that played way bigger than the 5/10 at greektown, the other casino Hollywood had a plo game that seemed to run regularly too.

The greektown game is alright, i've played it 3 times but i've never run well or had much fun playing in it. Not sure theres very much easy $ there anyways. Do mostly the same faces show up Saturday and Tuesday?

i've really been waiting for mcc to do something for awhile.. i think they were spreading some limit omaha high game the other night I went but it'd be cool if they'd at least try running a 1/2 plo some time. that rxr game is lame too..

Yes it's mostly the same people that have been playing for the last 10 years 2x a week. In fact they get priority when they sign up on the list a week ahead of time

hold 'em/omaha round by round. $30-60 at G'town on Monday and on Tues, Wed, Sat the round by round is at MC. It's 15-30 or 20-40 depending on the day.

MC used to have a $15-30 limit hold 'em only game on Friday. Not sure if it still runs or not. Call for details. These are the only limit games other than the $3-6 at Greektown

Structure is pretty terrible for this, (look it up), though I guess it is the standard HPT structure. I know that the HPT event in Turning Stone was a great structure which should be warranted for that kind of buy-in.

The times I have been there, half the table plays shallow. At least the rake is cheaper compared to the Detroit casinos.
