a group of limit holdem players have organized and will be playing on Thursday nights starting September 8th, beginning at 6PM. 5-10 and 10-20 limit holdem games will be spread. Right now there are enough players for 2 to 3 tables. There will be atleast one table of each limit to begin with. Since the players are bringing the 'game' to Derby Lane, Derby Lane will be providing food for the players. The games are open to anybody that wants to play.

We had a good 5-10 limit holdem game this evening at Derby Lane. The table stayed full the majority of the game. We are playing again next Thursday night at 6:00 PM. We plan on making this a weekly game. As interest picks up each week, we'll get higher limit games going also. This game is open to everybody. Come and play next Thursday.

MW and "notable player" should never be used in the same sentence.

Don Baruch I know was a WSOP bracelt winner a few years back. 1500 dollar event.

Marsha Wolak I want to say is a notable female and possible ladies bracelet winner.

I've heard of both names, but I couldn't tell them from you in a lineup.

I have to say that this room is a real dump. The rake is ludicrous and a good majority of the dealers are incompetent. Not all of them, there's a few who I think are great. The promotions have also gotten worse with time and management doesn't seem to care that the room is next to empty. Def the worst place to play cash in the area, tourneys sound ok.

I guess I am the only person on 2p2 that likes Derby. Might be that it's five minutes from my house, but I still like playing the Rock and Silks.... No I do not like Lucky's, I just don't like the atmosphere. I don't particularly like that they round the rake upwards like they do, but in 1/3 and above I don't see too many pots for under 5 rake anyway (1/3 more so than 2/5). The promotions have gotten a bit stale, and I'm hoping with the WPT they do make some promos for the event, but people seem to like the 500 high hand/100 for every quads or better, but I wouldn't mind seeing something different.

As for the room being next to empty, when? Early in the morning they have at least 5-6 tables going when they open and I was there late on Tuesday and Thursday and saw at least 7-10 cash games going and on Tuesday the 202 still had two tables to go at midnight. So I don't see that as "empty" but I guess when you have about 60 tables, it is a bit empty.

You should check out the tournaments, they really are the best. I like the Silks and some of the tournaments they are running (wish I could run in the Halloween one, but I have to work both starting flights) and the structure has gotten better, but Derby Lane has the BEST tournament structure and the rake on the tournaments are pretty fair I would say.

I know it seems like I am an apologist for the room, I'm not... I just enjoy the room and to say the place is a dump is pretty harsh, especially when there are rooms that are definitely more of a dump then Derby. I wish someone from their management or at least a rep from the room would come on here and hear what this community is looking for. I've been to rooms where the staff makes an effort (like the Silks) and they really do listen and try to make changes. Which is why I do make the almost 30 minute drive to play at the Silks.

+1, well to be honest I dont know about the promos. I haven't gone there in so long due to the fact the staff is incompetent. I have lost 3 pots that were over $400 (I play 1/2 or 1/3) just because of dealer error or floor stupidity. The 3rd time was the charm so I haven't been back since.

I really dont get why the silks has such a smaller base of players. It is hands down the best overall room in Tampa for cash games. Other than I run like dog crap every time I play there but that really isn't their fault.

care to explain the dealer/floor mistakes that led to your demise at derby?

To be fair one was partially my mistake.

Twice they burned and turned too quickly. One time I had a massive draw and it hit on the turn then missed on the new turn & river. The other time I had top set against a FD and the guy missed on the initial turn but hit on the new turn.

I get in both of these senarios the odds dont change and my EV is exactly the same after the 1st turn is re-shuffeled, but it is still an error on their part.

The other one was a little of me trying to be too trickey and them not applying their own rules consistantly.
I've seen them apply this correctly in the past.

Anyways I had the nuts in a 5 way pot on the flop Player 1 bets ~$30, while Im thinking player 3 behind me raises all in for ~$225. So I just call knowing that I've seen them apply this rule correctly before (his all in is still binding since significant action hasn't changed) and I was going to call the all in. Instead they allowed him to take back his raise and call which made player 4 and 5 also call and one of those 2 hit (both said they wouldnt have called if his all in stood) I actually c/f the turn when the FD hit. Player 3 had bottom 2 pair on the flop and it would have been me v. him if his raise stood.
