God. Finished 22nd in that thing after losing 3 pots as a 2-1 favorite each time in a row to bust me out by calling all ins preflop! Uggggh. Still sick from it. Went from 180k to busto real quick!

But yes. That tournament is a great tourney to play in! Tons of room for play

That was you?? I heard someone at THR talk about this. They said guys were getting pissed, ready to fight about it. He and I both agreed that that's no reason to kick you out. It's your money, play how you want. That's really ****ty. I like the dealer's at Derby but agree with your assessment of the floor personnel. Too bad. =\

the fat floor guy is an idiot but the taller black guy seemed pretty reasonable. the layout in the room is terrible with windows behind the players and the rails being close ect.

Yeah, the tall black guy has more common sense than the rest of them combined.

haha, i was just drunk. woteva. i do get along with a couple floormen some nights, they just get sick of me, understandably so

i guess ppl were complaining after they left the table cuz i didnt really see much of it firsthand, and everyone at the table i was at when we discussed it was standing up for me

no big deal, im sure ill be back. just didnt like the way i was approached and reprimanded for something i sure as hell have the right to be doing

and ya some of the dealers at derby are awesome

LOL, if someone would've told me this story and not mentioned which poker room it happened in, I would've guessed Derby. It's the only place I've been to where most of the floor openly display their contempt for the customers.

Sounds like they need a poker room manager who knows what he/she is doing. They need to properly train their staff and dealers. Jeez, without the players, they are all out of a job. You would think they would be more player friendly. I guess I won't be playing there too often.

Recently, we were playing 2-5 and the 5-10 game was breaking with only three left. The floor came over and told us we were going to the table with the 5-10 players and playing 2-5. We asked why we were moving. She said, "Move or not, either way I'm breaking this table." A few of us decided we were just going to go home instead, so she brought the 5-10 players to us and muttered, "I guess you'd rather play at a smaller table and not have control of the TV and not sit in the high limit section."

LOL, obviously, at "high limit section", but, "larger table, control of the TV, high limit section 'perks'" was the correct response to our question of why six of us were going there rather than three coming to us. "Move or not, either way I'm breaking this table," was not.

hell of a debut, what are your favorite things about derby's floors?

this thread is for discussion, we have the right to discuss strengths and weaknesses

You're right, it is to discuss strengths and weaknesses, but I think the point that was trying to be made is calling someone a douche, really doesn't do that. I could probably find 1-2 floors/dealers in any card room and say the same thing, so there really is no need to go there.

As for Derby lane being a horribly run room, debatable. Maybe because its like 5 minutes from where I live and play most often, I've gotten used to some of the BS. However, for 1/3, its the best room... Silks and lucky's don't offer and good luck getting that started at thr, unless you want to wait an hour, and since no room has yet to offer anything other than NLHE tournaments Derby has the most and best structured ones.

It would be nearly impossible to find 1-2 floors that are comparable to the one we're discussing. She is absolutely the least friendly, least fair person I've ever dealt with in a poker room.

I don't think it's remotely debatable that Derby is a horribly run poker room. I understand that it's easy to make excuses for them when they're conveniently located. I battle that urge every time I drive 25 minutes to Hard Rock rather than less than five minutes to Derby. Unfortunately, Derby has no motivation to change because the people that play there every day have no convenient alternative and don't know enough to understand how they're being mistreated.

I think its definitely debatable that Derby is the worst run card room. I can name 3 off the top of my head. Hollywood hard rock is atrocious, colder race track the time I was there was like inmates running the asylum and the mgm in Vegas is terrible ( I must have seen 2-3 string bets and raises every orbit... And the dealers and floor were allowing it).

I'm not saying Derby is perfect because it ain't at all, I just don't think calling someone a douche is really getting to the point of the argument. I used to think she was a horrid floor but I talked to her about some of the decisions that bothered me, she talked them through and even though I didn't fully agree I saw it her way and accepted her decision. Gotta be willing to have an open mind.

Btw I have been openly yelled at by two different floors at THR for asking to open a 1/3 game with nearly 20 names. Is say that's comparable

^^^

I have played at all three listed and while they may be worse it certain ways, the logic you presented is like saying the Rowandan genocide wasn't that bad compared to what Hitler did. Point is, 90% of the floors are either incompetent, don't care, or a good mix of both.

It is really discouraging to hear people say that they would rather play at THR than derby considering derby has the potential to be much better in all aspects. Does anyone know the room manager? Maybe you should point them in the direction of this thread and hope things change.

The fact I was making with using those three rooms is to say that you can't single out Derby and say they are the end all of horrible rooms. I agree the floor and staff are not always the greatest, but I really feel there is a travesty to say its the absolute worst.

I wish I knew the manager, but I do know some dealers and floors and see if I can get them looking this way. I think as a manager you should look to find ways to make things better, and here you'll get the scoop.

Can anyone advise as to how the Saturday $220 tournaments have been lately? (Players/structure?) Have a friend who wants me to go play, and I haven't played a tournament over there in forever.

TIA.

The 220 usually draws between 125-150, because they give seats away to it every Sunday. Starting units I believe is 12k, 30 min blinds and top usually pays right around 10k, but usually the final 5-8 chop to all get under the magic 5000 number. That's a good one and the 200 no rake on Sundays at the silks is also a good one.

You should try Daytona then. I had a high hand once, so the floor came over, took notice and when the hour went by came back by. He argued a good few minutes that mine didnt win, with several of the players at my table defending me. I finally got paid about 45 minutes afterwards. There they wont let you keep high hand winnigs on the table if you are over the buyin in max. 1/2 NL has a 200 max buying. So iends up having 350 or so and a palyer or 2 start complaining about it. I figure i won it at the table, it shouls stay at the table.Better for everyone really.

Another time at a tourney it started about 25 minutes late with various fllor stating, hey if iwas running this it this would happen.
