who said the $2000 is to fly? about $100-300 to fly and the rest would be for a months housing in the st petersburg area. i almost did it because im tired of not being around a live poker room in a casino for so long. i unlike a lot of far left wing people on this site, dont fear the virus, what i fear is the govt cracking down on peoples civil rights. and ive got attorney general william barr having my back.

if the casino has already said they were reopening, why wouldnt i have taken them at their word and assumed theyd already make sure this was okay with their legal advisors before posting it online? i give the room more credit than u do. u think they acted impulsively, and that i shouldnt have took them at face value.

only reason i hadnt booked yet is i always book at the last minute instead of in advance and my rent isnt due til next tuesday so that was the day i thought id go there for a month. (and it gave me time to see if another room also had plans before then)
because anyone with half a brain knows this is an extremely fluid situation.
businesses that are opening up are going to get shut down again if covid19 cases start increasing. if derby actually did open up and dealers and players were coming down with covid then the room wouldn't open very long.

they would change their minds because dealers don't want to get sick from dealing poker regardless of what the dipshit governor of Florida says.

you also would have no idea how good the games would be, if you'd even be profitable at them etc especially with this absurd expenses for grinding low stakes poker.

to top it off you have health issues and extremely poor hygiene so if someone should be scared of getting covid from playing poker it should be you.

There's a Texas poker thread in Home Poker. We don't allow discussion of these rooms in this forum for reasons that I won't get into as it'll derail the thread.

Folks this is the Derby Lane thread, let's stop with the Texas poker discussion.

[QUOTE=browser2920;56097592]Do you think they changed their mind because when they called their dealers to tell them they were opening that they couldn't get any dealers to work?

In most states, if you are collecting unemployment and your place of business calls you back to work and you decline, you are basically giving up the rights to your job and are, in a sense, quitting. You will also lose your benefits and quite possibly, your job.

That is normally true. But currently there are so many ways to get around those issues. Yes you may lose your job, but maybe not, but you can still receive UE benefits.

generally this is true
but with so many extra unemployment claims, special rules for covid19 there is a very good chance you decline to come in for health reasons and still get unemployment especially if you're in a high risk group

I think on paper in FL you lose UI if you refuse to return when your business reopens. But then again just about 400,000 of us are still waiting for them to un**** the system to start getting UI payments in the first place. So hundreds of dealers in FL havent gotten a dime since the rooms clsed in midMarch and are anxious to get back to work. If they evercstart, it may take FL a while to stop them.

I hope they do change their mind, but that is wishful thinking. We're looking at 6 max. Other details were not given yet.

I’m almost certain that Derby will open. This announcement is a direct response to Hard Rocks room opening on Thursday.

You can.

Also, parents who have lost childcare due to COVID-19 can still get unemployment.

So that is a LOT of people who don't have to go back to work.

Examples are here:

Any reports from the room now that it's open again?

The thing that takes the most getting used to is the hand sanitizer bottle being used in lieu of a dealer button. Action is often messed up because of cards/bets/straddles that aren't seen behind the bulky plastic bottle. As far as the poker goes, I'm still having raises called by Q4 offsuit and 52 offsuit, so the Derby Lane spirit is alive and well.

6 handed and the rake is still $7 total for $1/2. Rake is crushing the game.

An insider tells me that multiple employees have tested positive for COVID-19. Can’t confirm this personally, but that is the rumor.

Is There any poker going on at Derby? Drove past it last week and it looks like a Amazon truck meet& greet

Poker is now been upgraded from 6 handed to 7 handed. I went on a Monday so understand it’s slower that day. But there’s like two 1/2 tables and two 1/3 tables going and their tournaments seem non existent. I sat at the 1/2 game and it broke in 30 minutes. Waited for a seat and got one on a 1/3 table. They seem to be slowly losing customers. Had to go to Hard Rock to guarantee I could play all night without interruption.

Useless for 1/2 during the week/Sunday. Fine on Fri/Sat.

Weekends here are good for 1/3. Multiple good games.

Weekdays are dismal. The one 1/3 you might find running should be juicy though.

2/5 goes occasionally and when it does it's usually a bombshell, but can be short-lived.

Covid certainly having an impact. Not as much disposable income floating in the room like there used to be.

Does anyone know what happened to the O8 game that used to meet here on Saturday and Sunday mornings? Did they change locations or did they just disperse?

Hasn’t gone since COVID. I think a few of the guys just decided not to play until this is over with; therefore the game broke. I assume it’s a temporary thing, and it’ll probably start back up again eventually.

The pandemic unfortunately seems to be 08's death knell (across the board, not just the Derby game). It sucks because the game is fantastic-- fun to play, profitable if you're good, sociable because it's limit, and losers don't get felted within minutes-- but it was already gradually on its way out before all this. I do enjoy NLHE, but it was always nice to switch things up occasionally. Damn shame. RIP08

Appears the O8 game started back up again here. It is sometimes high only until enough players get there (max of 8 for now.)
