Hey guys,
Cash game rake is getting ridiculous. THey start rounding up at $1, so for a 21 dollar pot you are paying 5 in rake (3-house 2-BBJ).
Seriously cutting into my line when lots of pots I win are 21-31 dollars (and carefully planned that way).
Just thought I'd share. Still super fishy and exploitable 1/3. I was at a table last night with 3 decent/exploitable nits and 4 fishes who kept rebuying for $100. Twas awesome

Yep, thats the worst rake in the US. People will still play there because they are clueless about the rake. Half the people couldnt tell you anything about the rake.

Yeah, I had the rake confirmed through one of the dealers, he was not happy about it. My wife had to put her dog of 16 years down yesterday so we went there to decompress and play1/1. I chopped a pot with a guy and after the rake we split a dollar. I gave it tothedealer and derby cashed in a full 7$$$. All the rooms have something that is against the players benefit, derby has just taken it to hard rock level.

Im not sure what you mean by hard rock level.
HR has the best rake in the Tampa area. They dont round up at all and they only take $1 jackpot. And they are the only ones that comp poker players.
.15/hr at silks counts as nothing.

What I mean is that even if there is no flop, they rake in... Derby doesn't do that, so each has it's shortfalls. The silks, which I just cannot run well in that room, so I'm probably biased, has only 1/2 nl.... And I'd rather play 1/3, so that is a major shortfall. I enjoy playing and really don't look at the rake as much as others do, but once you get to 1/3 or above, it really doesn't matter, most pots are going to rake the full 5$.

Sounds like it is time to play at the silks. They have a $2 jackpot drop, but stopped taking a dollar on $10. On a fourteen dollar pot the house is taking $1 on rake and no jackpot.

If you are trying to say derby does No Flop No Drop then you are very wrong.
No room in this area does that except sarasota kennel club, which Ive heard but never verified.

Just to be clear a room that does NFND takes no rake or jackpot no matter how big the pot is as long as there is no flop.
with the exception of HR hollywood that does NFND but takes the $1 jackpot drop still.

Its the best room in the area. I wish they only had a $1 jackpot drop but other than that its hands down the best room.

Delaers and floor are 10x better than anywhere else. Food is better than other places.

I've only seen one thing there that I thought was ******ed and "blew" it was on 12/31/10 they had a $20 tournament that took up all their tables and the wait lists for cash games were 20-30+ people long. I walked in after playing golf then I just turned around cause I didnt want to wait 1+ hour to get seated.

For those that were inquiring about LHE at Derby Lane, I played there a couple times a week from Sep-Dec 2010 and did not see a single LHE game other than their $2 straight limit game.

I don't think I ever went there on Saturday night during this period, if that makes a difference.

Silk's has a $2-$4 LHE game, doesn't it? I've been thinking of trying it out. I don't like the straight $2 limit structure at Derby.

The 2/4 Limit at Silks has not been running any time I have been there in last 3 months. Granted, I don't go that much, but this was even on a Saturday.

Your best best for 2/4 Limit is the Rock as there are always people playing that just for their chance at the BBJ.

I was hoping the limits would get some higher limit game going, but seems no one cares about limit. I wouldn't mind playing some 4/8 or 5/10 limit live.

Although rake in florida is worst in the country so are the players, which makes it okay. By the time rake becomes decent, players will be decent, so i guess it will be okay lol

Anyway proper adjustment is to only play 2/5 and higher unless 1/3 is deep, As you only lose 1.5 bbs per hand. 1/2 imo is not beatable for any meaningful ammount as 3.5 bbs come of max per hand plus tip

The rake in Florida is not the "worst in the country". Get real...

Your assertion that the players are the worst in the nation, you have obviously not played much outside of LA, Vegas, AC. There are some places where the players are laughably bad, such as anywhere in West Virginia, Pennsylvania or Missouri.

It's getting to the point where some of the rooms in Vegas are doing 10% up to $5 + 1$ drop (mostly Harrah's properties), so you are running out of this excuse. And dont most of the Cali rooms drop even if there is no flop?

My point is, outside of Vegas and maybe AC, there is no incentive for rooms to lower rake because there is no real competition, so if you don't like it, play online.

Was there a few weeks ago (brag: two free steak meals complements of my lady-friend's monster quinella race picks on the puppies as we slummed around playing 1/1).

Just for clarification: The $2 jp drop is not just for BBJ. There's also a high-hand jackpot given every half hour, and it does induce action. Its constantly talked about on the tables ("What's the new high-hand, anyone hear"). Heard several folks talk about playing there specifically for that jackpot instead of going somewhere else, and some lady said she wanted to go home but was going to stick around playing a bit to see if she can hit it.

No idea how to quantify loss of EV because of the higher rake vs. the boon of players keeping their chips on the table in play trying to chase a loooongshot jackpot.

Further clarification: Jackpots NEVER influence any of my poker decisions (although we missed the kick-ass-looking buffet cause my lady-friend wanted to hang a little longer and chase the jackpot some more, fml)

Tonight I knocked a bounty out of the 97X 8:00 multi table tournament an got a $430 tournament ticket voucher for free. It's 100% transferrable to anyone that I give it to. Already spoke with the supervisor that issued the ticket to me about it. The tournament is scheduled to play on Sat May 21 @ 1:00 pm. I would like $400 for it. That's $30 free equity. If you're interested PM me.

Thanks guys
Eric
