Hi guys, maybe a bit exotic but worth a shot.

My wife and I will travel to South Africa in May staying in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Sun City

Anyone ideas about NLHE games there???

Casino games at Emperors Palace by O.R.Tambo airport in Joburg, has a the best poker room, in S.Africa. 30-50 player tourneys run every night .. Cash from about 7pm, but, only 1 maybe 2 tables, $1,$2, and rake is high.

The room is player friendly, and gets my support

Monte casino in Joburg, is 45 mins away, and has become v poorly run imho, with no player friendliness (no phones/eating at table), poor dealers, poor managers. Basically it should be better, but, they don't give a fig.

Expect quality of dealers, to be 100-200% worse, than US.

No where else in casinos .. Some home games, but, I got held up with AK 47,s, (10 yrs ago), and that was enough for me.

The Cape Town casino, closed the poker room, maybe 4 mths ago.

I just came back from South Africa and confirm what dundalk said. Cape Town - forget it.

Jo-Berg, Emperor's Palace - but not 30-50 players like reported. I got there on a Monday and the room "opened" at 6pm but game didn't really start until after 7pm.

The game, however, was super soft. 10/20 (Rand, equivalent of about .75/1.50 USD). UTG raises got multiple callers. Min BI was 1k and I bought in for that, and left after 2 hours with 4k. Once the game got going guys would come in for 1k, stack off in 2-3 hands and leave to be replaced immediately. It was amazing. No notion of pot control by most players. Made half my winnings just by calling with top pair on the river.

Any updates on poker in South Africa?
