I'm pretty sure it does have the same reputation but there is currently a push to officially call the area "Koreatown" which would be a positive development. 635 separates TCH from the "bad" area. On occasion I've seen homeless people under 635 near TCH and I've thought "if you only knew all the money that is just a block away."

TEXpress means you can drive 635 at high speeds during rush hour (see the opening scene of Office Space to see what driving 635 was like 25 years ago). TEXpress also allowed me to drive to/from Winstar during the height of rush hour which was previously an impossibility unless one is ok turning a 1hr 15 minute drive into a 2+ hour commute.

Many people have done it safely. We haven't had a rash of poker robberies in Dallas as they have in Houston. I really don't think it matters how nice the area is though. If someone gets the idea to start robbing poker players, they're going to follow through with their plan even if the area is nice. With that being said, you should always give it some thought. Poker players can be targeted whether walking, ubering, or driving one's own vehicle. Always be aware and try to position yourself in such a way that you are unlikely to be a victim.
