Went to The Fort last night. Seemed well run with friendly, competent dealers and floor. Not much in the way of variety of stakes/games. One table of DC mix and 4 or 5 tables of 1/2. I'll definitely be going back based on the location being 15 minutes from home. Time is $13hr, but can be bought at $10hr during the week after 10pm.

Too late to edit previous post, discounted rate is 5 for $55, not $10hr.

Texas Card House to Wyndham Garden Dallas North is, according to Google Maps, 0.5 miles and 10 minutes by foot. How sketchy is that walk?

I haven't been to TCH yet, but very near that area it is very sketchy. I would assume it's pretty damned sketchy and plan to Uber back and forth, at least at night carrying loads of cash.

I haven't lived in Dallas in almost 15 years so I don't know if Harry Hines still has the same reputation it used to, but I'm going to say no. Outside of the college bar hotspots and sports arenas, there isn't a lot of walking done especially at night. And I do remember the area near 35 and 635 having some pretty sketchy parts.

Edit: Wtf is TEXpress?

Texpress is the new thing in N. Texas. Every bit of highway construction is basically to add toll lanes to existing highways. Texpress are toll lanes, like HOV lanes but for whoever wants to pay up. The worst part of them is that they are variable toll fee, so they're super expensive during high traffic times and just expensive during low traffic times.

Driving around the areas surrounding TCH at night was like something out of a horror movie. Businesses all boarded up, barely a person in the world except the odd strange wanderer.

Yeah, I finally went and played at TCH a couple of nights ago. 100% you don't want to be walking anywhere from there. Hell, I had to park a long way away and was a little nervous just walking to my car, lol. Had a good night at the room. Great action, friendly table, all the dealers were competent. No complaints whatsoever. It would be nice if they offered a discount on time for bulk buys, but whatever. I'll be trying Poker House next to compare. They do offer time discounts, 20 hours for $200, plus I have a friend who deals there and says the action there is just as good, they just don't have the variety of games that TCH has.

I wish that Peaks got more traffic. They have a ping pong table and even ping pong tournaments. It's been many years since I've played, but man I love that game and was a pretty good player back then.

Strange. I stayed at Wyndham earlier in the year for a week+, walked to and from TCH every day/night I was there, had no issues, and never gave it much thought. However, if people ITT don't recommend walking, I imagine it's definitely better to be safe than sorry.

It's probably much safer than if you were a mile or half mile south, but still not anywhere I'd want to be walking with a lot of cash on me. I didn't realize that Wyndham was so close either. I've never noticed it there before. I don't have a ton of recent experience with that part of town, just the one visit to TCH. Harry Hines has had a rep as "bad" for a long time. It's always been known as the red light district of Dallas, but those activities were concentrated further south.

I'm pretty sure it does have the same reputation but there is currently a push to officially call the area "Koreatown" which would be a positive development. 635 separates TCH from the "bad" area. On occasion I've seen homeless people under 635 near TCH and I've thought "if you only knew all the money that is just a block away."

TEXpress means you can drive 635 at high speeds during rush hour (see the opening scene of Office Space to see what driving 635 was like 25 years ago). TEXpress also allowed me to drive to/from Winstar during the height of rush hour which was previously an impossibility unless one is ok turning a 1hr 15 minute drive into a 2+ hour commute.

Many people have done it safely. We haven't had a rash of poker robberies in Dallas as they have in Houston. I really don't think it matters how nice the area is though. If someone gets the idea to start robbing poker players, they're going to follow through with their plan even if the area is nice. With that being said, you should always give it some thought. Poker players can be targeted whether walking, ubering, or driving one's own vehicle. Always be aware and try to position yourself in such a way that you are unlikely to be a victim.

Champions Club is partnering with a fine dining restaurant named Hearsay in Arlington. The restaurant (which already had a soft opening) is opening on March 3rd at Choctaw Stadium (the former home of the Rangers). No word on when or if poker will be available at this location. I've seen photos of the inside and didn't see any poker tables, but this partnership was just announced. This restaurant is owned by the Mayor of Arlington.

I haven't been to Peaks yet. I wish they had more traffic, I'd love to get in some quality ping pong time while I'm on the waitlist.

Stopped by the Fort.

They have something in April, too, but I got this pic on the way out.

Played 12p-5p the last 3 days. Games have been good. 3-4 tables with a tourney that isn't getting more than 1 table going. Playing 1/3 with $1000 or 75%max buy in with 4 card/double board bomb pots. Surprised by the quality of the day games.

Here's a tourney for April for tourney players that may be interested...

Looking like Poker House Dallas is going to be shutting their doors at midnight May 31 due to the City cracking down on what PHD describes as a "technicality with the certificate of occupancy". I'm not sure if their latest day in court was the appeal or if there's still an appeal coming, but a friend who deals there seems pretty sure they're done.

In the meantime TCH has opened a new branch in Las Colinas. I haven't been to either location since they split, but looks like LC is higher stakes games and Dallas is lower stakes per Poker Atlas. Less tables at each, but the long lists are maybe gone.

Check with TCH. Their new location is staying ridiculously busy.

If anyone is hiring, it’s likely them.
