$1-2 - Pushed all in on a rag flop after a guy raised to $60.
He had nothing and hit runner runner flush....
Goodbye my entire chipstack....
$430 later.

Are there smoking areas available in the casino (near the poker area preferably)?

Just arrived in Melbourne last week, since the cash game structure is ****, how are the tournaments?
Crown Casino (Melbourne, Australia) Quote

tournaments are horrible for the most part, joe hachem deep stack series isnt deep stacked and most tourneys are shove fests with very little room to make moves, the higher buyin tournaments have decent structures if you can afford to play them. Have a look on the website crownpoker.com they show all structures.
p.s i think both 1/2 and 2/3 are very beatable ridiculous amount of fish

Am i missing something? I was in Melbourne two days ago and there was NO time charge...

The agree that the rake is a joke at 1/2 and 2/3, though. 10% and NO CAP. I mean, c'mon.

Also, why does Crown insist on letting people buy-in for 20bbs, yet not allow players to buy-in for 100??

Crown is no better than Star City, IMO. Star may have time charge, but atleast they cap their rake.

I was there a couple of weeks ago and there was a 1/2 PLO interest list, however when the table finally opened only me and one other sat, so they closed it again.

I'd REALLY like some low limit PLO8/b, but I think I'm dreaming if I'll ever see that at the Crown.

I thought rake was capped at 10% up to $150?

The buyin rules are ATROCIOUS. 90% of the people who attend Crown are broke & scummy however and Crown is proving that they'd gladly fill their seats with ratholers playing with often as little as 10bb...just ridiculous. What's worse is that it recently went up from 40bb maxbuy at 1/2 to 60bb, that's just a slap in the face, if they were going to increase it they should have capped it at 100bb. It infuriates me how terribly structured the games are. The only people more depressed than the players are usually the dealers...

How can you expect to be the premier poker room in Australia when you consistently shaft the players with any understanding of poker whatsoever.

i agree with everything you said, when i first turned 18 and played at crown i was disappointed on how bad the structure was, i would be there every day if rake was better and if you could buy in 100BB, at least its getting better its now 60BB (which is still gay) and its 8 max. Ill play alot more at crown when i start playing 2/5 structure seems way better than 1/2 2/3.

I have played at Star City (Sydney) and Crown (Melbourne) I was traveling Australia on a work and holiday visa from 2009-2010.

Was very disappointed with both casinos. Time charge+high rake is insane. Also, I hated not being allowed to buy in for 100bbs. I would often buy double the amount and when the switched dealers drop some more of my chips onto the table. No one ever knew/cared.

Anyway, loved Australia. Hope to go back someday!

I agree. You might be right about the rake. I just remember being rake very large a few times.

I played three 12-hour sessions in a row, and the place is simply awful.

Bad buy-in structure, horrid rake, miserable dealers, scummy players buying in for $40...awful.

Arguing the rake at 2/3 'mathematically unbeatable' is just dumb when most even regs don have any fundamentals.
And the fact someone i.e. Rick regularly playing with a 3k+ stack (think his max was 6k last year in the summer) can def prove that the game is beatable.

If that's your argument than you don't understand "mathematically unbeatable"

Can anyone confirm there is no time charge? As the OP is a bit dated now?

By saying it is dumb i don mean its not true.
I do believe if the edges are thiner no one can beat shallow game with 10% rake,
But as long as ppls still routinely fold to a $25 flop bet in a $80+ pot there wont be a case.
