I don't play much, I can beat 25nl fairly easily but haven't tried any higher would I be able to make like $20 an hour on average If not I don't think I'll bother playing at all
Yo. If you can beat 25nl sh or fr online...playing live should be a piece of cake. 2k is plenty given how bad players are and its pretty hard to blow 2k playing 1/3...its not like online where you can blow 10 buyins in an hour. F@$K RAKE...if you are good enough to win and better than your opponents then you will make good $.SIMPLE. GL have fun

Skills to play 25nl don't replicate exactly to live but you'll be miles ahead technically.

Patience, tilt control and dealing with villains in real life all take learning and you'll need to recalibrate your play more around fat value and accept and embrace the fact you have little fold equity at 1/2 so bluffing is way less effective

Yeah that makes alot of sense.

I actually have played in pub tournaments quite a few times, but never really considered that practice because the level play meant there was no technical knowledge to be gained. But I suppose it did help with certain other factors like learning to manually keep track of pot size, chip handling and the unbelievable amount of stupidity shown by people plus the vast amounts of limping. etc

It's kind of hard getting used to just how wide you can value bet and learning to call down so much wider than I would online in certain spots. So even though the pub tournaments can't really be played for profit just due to the structures, I think there was maybe some small gain in getting used to live aspects.

Plus I'm a big chess player and am pretty used to hours of intense concentration with not much going on. I was actually going to make a trip to crown today/tonight but ended up having other stuff going on and dont really feel like it tonight.

you can self teach very easily in live play.
pay close attention and your quality of reads will be worth so much value. eg knowing that loose limpy/limp calling fishy#1 will call down A2o on Axx xx for medium bets but fold this hand if you bet to large means 3 streets of 5bb pre, 10bb pot siz bet on flop cos they aint scared yet. 18bb into 30. then 35 into 66bb and you just milked 68bb from fishy as the final pot slowly swelled to 136bb with your A8-AT.

40mins later and fishy #2 opens pre. he rarely opens pre but cant fold 99-TT AQo etc if you 3bet big. say a little under 20bb($50 in a 1/3 game). he calls pre obv. pots huge now and cant let go of second pair, or TT on a Kxx xx. with 40bb in the middle he's screwed. with 200bb behind we bet 30, he calls. pots now 100bb with 2 streets left and 170bb behind. he cant fold here, that pots just too big. and you could always be bluffy right? haha nah. we here for value betting 90% of players. had fishy 4bet then cya later, time to fold. why? cos we see every action of every player of every hand. sure, sometimes you'll be surprised, but it wont matter when youve already exploited them to the max.

and the best part is - the decisions are usually easy ones. its will be rare to think to yourself "he's got a good mix of bluffs and vbets here, this is close" nup. live fishy divide their ranges up they may as well play with 1 card exposed. they let you check down turn/riv with your 88s on a QJx xx. they donk into you when they hit that dry Ace on the turn. some do the opposite, but they all do something with that can be countered with 3-5secs of thinking.

and on top of that. everyones pretty much a 50/5 full ring.

your toughest opponent by far is the rake. 3, 4, $500/hour straight to mr Packer. avoid small pots with small edges.

your second toughest opponent is yourself. dont pull out the iphone and start browsing FB. dont rest your brain and stare into space when you pitch em pre. stay focused, take a break, then back to 100% focus. you dont want to miss the donators favorite donation method.

remeber to be nice. limp along a bit like they do to blend. donk iso 86s or whatever. just aint worth it. play J2s otb 4way. let them see you show it down if the pots small. live poker is really fun if you love to manipulate and dont have ADD. Drink light beers. never talk strat. say "whooooo" when someone makes a boat. its now really a big deal to an online grinder, but these guys see this kind of thing less often, so its fun.

Hey guys, I'm bringing over some US dollars for the ANZPT and staying near the Crown. Can anyone recommend a currency exchange nearby where I can change USD-AUD and back, without losing too much on the vig?

The best place to transfer currency is the Post Office. You get way better rate and it's where I always do it pre wsop. Go to any Australia Post store

Alternative is somebody who goes to wsop and wants to change at market rate. I would but am in Syd this week

Anyone reg crown melb a lot? If so how often do games run during the week? Only really looking for 2/4+ if their site is correct. Is the rake in the OP still correct? seems a bit ridiculous

there would be at least 5 2/4 games during the week and more on weekends (am talking evenings)

normally only 1 or a max of 2 5/5 games during the week and occasionally a 5/10

can't comment on the 1/3

the rake is what it is because they're the only show in town

2/4 and 5/5 are running pretty much all the time. Rake got substantially worse with advent of Royal Flush jackpot about 5 weeks ago. Cap up by ~20% with about a third of this returned via jackpot. I'm reg at 1/3 and it is now 10%/$15. 1/2 is a scream. BI $40-80 10%/$20. Nice. I would rather be mugged openly by a junkie.

Yeh I'm not going to play anything less than 100bb since everything else seems ridiculous

How many hands you get per hour?

I was going to go 2 weeks ago after an even munted but ended up going to baccarat which ended up going surprisingly well with the thousands of asians there

I haven't run a proper count but it will range between 25 to a bit over 30. Variables are dealer speed and degree of game control. Also the number of players to a flop. Often a no foldem vibe gets going which can slow it down. However the decision time at the lower stakes is max 20secs. So there is no chance your kids will graduate while an Israeli tanks to Xmas.

How often are you playing?

Capped at 15$ 10%...

PLO games you will get a max of one in melbourne - normally a 1/2/5 PLO game deepstack 1k buy in. In Sydney can get a constant flow of games with variety of limits.

Is the commission any better in Sydney?

rake in Sydney is 10% up to $10 per pot but there is also an hourly table charge

$5ph at 2/3 and 2/5 and $10ph at 5/5

fyi in Crown, there is a one off sit down fee, each time you sit down at a new table of $5 and $3 of the $15 max rake goes into a Royal Flush promotion that pays once every 8/9 days

both are really ****ing expensive, both games still very beatable if you're a good play
