Does nobody tip at the Commerce as well? I was playing the "500" game and I think I was the only person tipping a buck on flopped hands. (Granted I only played for an hour)

Odd table maybe, since virtually everyone tips IME. That's my regular game.

I don't know what the exact rules are per game because in the 5/10 that I play the meals are free anyway (even though they swipe your card and often ask for ID). I've heard enough people say its 25 cents an hour to where I believe it. That might be only for the higher games where the food is free anyway. Regardless, their whole system is a f'ing mess. Having to show ID to get a bottle of water is ridiculous.

It's .25 cents an hour in the games where you get free food

The card system changed not too long ago. Now they ask you for ID when you use your card for comps. I asked why the ID requirement and was told that the Commerce card is now like a credit card. You can use it in the Gift Shop and to get food. Not sure if you can use it elsewhere in the hotel/casino, but suspect this may be so.

Three jackpots hit last Friday.

One was pocket Tens versus pocket Aces with a flop of T,A,T. It was a 4/8 HE game at 3 pm. Another hit with A,J suited flopping a Royal and the person with a set of Queens getting Quads by the end.

The 8/16 regular jackpot was up to 48K as of last Saturday.

What are the 10/20 games like? How deep do they play usually? I tried asking the floor people but they only said I can buyin for six hundred bucks.... great.

Side note, why does Commerce still have lead based chips? How has their not been a lawsuit about this.

Play 10/20 there quite often. The minimum buyin is $600, usually no one has that few of chips. Average stack is usually about 3k. Every table will usually have one or two larger stacks of around 5-10k.

Thanks, how are the games? I've been playing the "500" 5/10 game and they are LOL bad. A few ultra nitty regs in the game but also a few ungodly bad regs from what I've seen.

Almost every LA-based room uses chips with lead inside. The metal provides the weight and heft that they are looking for. They usually have signs telling you to wash your hands after handling them.

IIRC this is a result of a settlement from a prop 65 lawsuit.

I believe the signs are by the cage...but anyway the lead in the chips is the least of my health concerns when it comes to the chips, cards, money, felt, etc.

Re: Commerce Casino (Los Angeles, CA) Poker Thread

1) In the "free food" zone, it is $0.25 per hr. Elsewhere $1 hr. good only for food, NOT tips. They check your ID and take your Commerce Card and charge your acct. for the food.
2) As to the lead based chips, I'd be far more concerned about catching the swine flu or scurvy (just well named examples) from the other players at the table. I confront obviously sick players and strongly urge them to go home and stop sharing their creeping crud. After being cursed at just yesterday by a dumass kid, I suggested that he not return until he got a note from either his mother or his pediatrician that he no longer had a fever and knew how to not slime up the chips. Earlier, it was a guy at HG who thought if he coughed into his shirt, that made everything all right. Didn't their mothers teach these clowns any manners? Gross.

My experience is that the composition of the $2 green clay chips in the Commerce 8/16 game is as follows:

32 % bacteria
25 % dirt
12 % viruses
8 % fungi
6 % food products
6 % human excrement
5 % paint / dye
4 % molds
2 % clay

Truth. Fun fact: those chips were white when brand new.

Looking to move to LA to play here. What are the decent neighborhoods close to here and what would be the rents for a studio/one bedroom?

Decent is a pretty relative expression.

I would suggest heading about 20 minutes south to Orange, Anaheim or Buena Park.

Whenever I am there I can't escape the overwhelming feeling that I'm in a hotel (unlike Pechanga which has a hotel as well).

On the plus side they feed you once during the tournament which is nice.

All things being equal I would rather head to San Diego.

Scurvy? Scurvy is brought on by the lack of vitamin C. Are other players keeping you from eating oranges?

Alhambra, Monterey Park, San Gabriel, Pasadena, Montebello (North), Downey...just to name a few. Rent should run you around $800-$1000 for a studio/one bed.

Craigslist is your friend.

FYP. Assuming you have money, and enjoy safety. Orange is nice though, as is Anaheim, but both have ****ty areas like every other city. The further north in LA county and the further south you go in OC the better.
