Re: Commerce Casino (Los Angeles, CA) Poker Thread

Can anyone comment on the current state of the 5/10 500-1500 buyin games there? Haven't been there in years, plan on playing there again in the near future.

It's a perfectly fine game. You'll get plenty of tight tables where most of the players know what they're doing, but there's still a good amount of dead money around. Not as lively as it once was (what is though), but still very beatable.

Thanks. How many games do they usually have on the weekends on average?

Awesome. Do they still have that ridiculous 5/10 400 max buyin game as well?

What is commerce's rules regarding cell phones. Most vegas rooms let you talk on the phone. Some let you text and not talk. And on the ohio river you cant even touch your cell phone while involved in a hand lol

Yes. They tried to change it recently to a 5/5 game but the players rebelled and they changed it back.

In cash games they have no cell phone rules, the sky's the limit. In tourneys they have standard no-cell phone rules when you're at the table.

Did they get rid of the rule where if you so much as reach for your phone while in a hand your hand is dead?

Re: Commerce Casino (Los Angeles, CA) Poker Thread

Kinda a noob question, but I've never played poker in California and was planning a trip to the Commerce.

If I were going to play something between $30/60 LHE and $100/200 LHE, how often do these games run? What kind of rake/hourly rates would I be looking at?

Thanks in advance.

40/80 runs all the time, 24/7. Sometimes up to 6 tables, average 3-4, and 1-2 in the middle of the night on weekdays. 60/120 runs almost all the time, usually 1 table, sometimes 2. 100/200 goes only sporadically now.

The drop at 40/80 is $5/hand + $1 for the BBJ. Jackpot is aces full of 10s or better beaten by quads or better.

The collection at 60/120 is $12/person each half-hour, taken out of the first pot of $600 or more. You can choose to be out of collection and pay $12 yourself.

They still have the rule, enforcement is sporadic at best.

Re: Commerce Casino (Los Angeles, CA) Poker Thread

Last night I stopped by Commerce to check out their 8/16 game. Haven't played a cash game here since they last spread 9/18, which has got to be a few years. Well it's still the same old, same old. Not really a complaint as the game I was sitting in was very good. Hardly any raising, people taking 3 in stride with an under pair to the board hoping to hit their set on the turn. Just a lot of loose action. A lot of tables running for a Tuesday evening.

I just need to remember to bring my Ipod with me next time. Guy sitting a few tables over was probably one of the biggest douches in the building, if not the biggest. Just kept going on and on about how he makes $50 an hour at his job and that he would be willing to bet anybody at his table he has more money than all of them.

Does commerce casino have safety deposit boxes? And are these only available for a certain amount of time or only for hotel guests?

Yes, they have boxes. Definitely not only for hotel guests (the vast majority of people playing there aren't hotel guests). Not sure what their rules are otherwise for getting them, probably just a deposit.

What does this mean? Are there available boxes elsewhere? I don't really want to have to take 10k+ to my room and I don't really want to have a tax formed filled out for transactions over 10k...

If you are gambling $10K plus at a session, you should be paying your taxes, which means you shouldn't really need to worry about having to sign a transaction report. (You should be paying your taxes even if you aren't gambling those stakes, of course, but I at least understand that someone who plays 4/8 with a kill three times a year and wins or loses a couple of hundred max might not be as diligent about tax compliance as the law requires.)

Re: Commerce Casino (Los Angeles, CA) Poker Thread

One of my friends won 50K+ there recently in a tournament. They told him he couldn't get a check, and that he had to leave with cash. His other options were getting a box, or leaving with 50K+ in chips. Doesn't he have the right to get a check? It seems like Commerce doesn't care about the danger of leaving with bricks of money.
