No, they took it away for a month. Now they have given free food back and moved the game to the hotel side. They also don't drop the jackpot til after the flop now at 500 but apparently still drop it before the flop on the other side in the smaller games....LOLCOMMERCE!!!

The last two times I've been to Commerce I've screwed around and played 4/8 Omaha8. Not cause I'm busto, but because I've wanted to work on and play some mixed games and learn the game overall.

The level of degeneracy in these games is beyond absurd. I've never seen so many players smash the felt after folding and seeing the next card, or players tell dealers they should quit / be fired, players rebuying constantly buy for 5 small bets. Most people who win one large pot will generally also rack up and leave pretty much immediately as well.

I guess it's the stereotypical Commerce table though. Usually play 5/10 NL when I'm there though.

Games are super soft too, granted the rake is sky high relative to the buyins.

Absolutely standard and mind blowing at the same time. The Commerce is a crazy place and I love it.

I was going to go tonight but opted to stay in as I'm not feeling that well. Anyways, was sitting in my living room and my roommate and his lady friend came in. I mentioned I must be really not feeling well if I'm blowing off poker tonight. My friends lady friend mentioned she heard that "they got rid of the 5/10 game at Commerce". I said what do you mean and she said "they lowered the stakes in it". (She works some games in the LA area)

I mentioned that they simply moved the 5/10 game over to the other side of the casino but she said that's what everyone was telling her that the "5/10 game was removed".

Kinda curious how many games are running tonight after hearing her comments.

All they did was move the $500-$1500 to the hotel side while keeping the $400 on the hellhole side. It's grouped in with the $300-$500 games now, which they had about 7 of going last night so that is finally taking off (helped that there was a tourney going). If someone is easily confused, they might go over to the old location and see no games going and draw the incorrect conclusion.

I was wondering, if I normally do well at 2/5 at other places (AC, Jacksonville, Vegas), would I survive in the 5/10 game here? Bankroll is sufficient.

By the pool and tournament area there is a balcony off the crown plaza. After 12 no guest of hotel or players for the casino our allowed to be out there.

Didn't know they forbade people from being on the patio after 12.

You can always just walk outside, front or back. It's not like they're locking you in the building.

Ive only been on weekday evenings after work commitments.
If I were to show up on a Saturday morning would there be a fair number of 20/40 and 40/80 games.
Is there a PLO selection?

Also, I would see a lot of stuck/steaming 8-16 players who would on impulse jump into an open seat in the 20-40 to try to get even or dump their last couple hundred before going home that won't now.

I think taking away the 8-16 is really going to hurt the 20-40, but considering these games rake the same maybe this is what the casino wants, as poor players are going to last longer in 8-16 than 20-40, giving a higher % of their losings to the house.

I have much less experience with NL, so I am not sure how the move is going to affect the 500NL. I think it may help the 10-20, as stuck/steaming players from 500NL will be more likely to jump over, but some of the losers that play 10-20 might take the opportunity to play smaller without "losing face" cause they are still in the top section.

Also it seems like smaller NL players will be less likely to walk across the whole casino to make the occasional plunge at 500NL.

All in all, I think these moves might be good for the house, as they will result in losing players playing smaller, but might not be as good for winning players.

-Also, I don't think the moving around was to "make room" per se. Except for Friday/Saturday night when there are a ton of 8-16's going, there is plenty of room in the top section for all the top section games, 8-16 AND 500NL (and you could probably throw 400NL in too).

I bet most good players at this level are in the same spot or are new but educated.
I'm in a similar situation as you, been playing LLSNL at hollywood park/commerce/bike for almost 10 years but it wasn't until 2010 or so that I finally figured out that I needed to COMPLETELY separate my poker money from my general living/spending money (I have a 9-5 job and only play recreationally, but take the game seriously and show a modest winrate) and have since then been building it up slowly. I know it's hard to get a decent sample size playing live, but I've been averaging a winrate of about 5-6 bb/hr mainly at the $200NL (HP, Commerce) but have spent so much time in these 40bb buy in games that when I play the deeper (100bb) buy in games like the Bike 2/3 I have found myself in some weird spots and making some awkard moves.

Not sure if I should just keep at the 40bb games where I feel I have developed a winning strategy (mainly just playing snug and then getting paid off by the plethora of loose action available at Commerce) or if I should shift over to the 100bb buy in games since they are more of a proxy for the games I will encounter if I ever want to move up in limits. Any thoughts?

Thanks.

What's the state of the 5/10 game over the last week? I only see 3 tables running right now, that seems low to me? (Felt like there was always more tables running) Likely will dabble in the game tomorrow assuming i'm not massively hung over.

Just be aware that as you move up in stakes, or out of the Los Angeles area (in San Diego they play 100BB 1/2 NL) your Commerce/short stack experience will leave you inexperienced in turn and river play. I'm with serio. You can always take a shot at the Bike where you can play 2/3 100BB NL.

I can't speak authoritatively to this since while I was once a 5/10 reg, I'm a sporadic (at best) 5/10 player these days. But when I played it a couple weeks ago, it was indeed 3 tables (which surprised me) and the quality of play/players has certainly gone up over the last several years.

Different guys, I didn't know their names. And that is correct, you don't have to deal with Ash or Serge and the banana republic that they run.
