Thanks. That sucks, especially when you just know anyone who's looking to start trouble is most definitely carrying. (unlike NYC where you really do feel like the strict law has some effect on even the deviants - but maybe I'm jaded)

I have heard stories too about the watchmen basically selling info to the local gang bangers on who will be easy targets, but stories are stories, right... Commerce wouldn't be the place it is without the tall tales!

Just valet the car if you're concerned, I won't even consider not doing that in LA. Mostly because I'm lazy, a little because of the sketchiness. You can get robbed anywhere, Commerce parking lot or not. I have no idea if anyone has ever gotten rolled in that lot though. Probably, which is the same as you could say for the parking lot at any WalMart in the US.

BTW I've never actually seen a security guard in that tower in the parking lot.

Haha, this. And even if he's there, he's probably as quick to the rescue as the security inside when responding to a fight....which is to say, glacial.

props for using the word "glacial" to describe movement of a security guard.

Describing a Commerce security guard as glacial is an insult to glaciers.

Really? Sometimes it seems those insiders can't wait to haul someone out!

I think they only man the tower in the smaller high limit lot (also adjoins the closed off VIP lot) regularly, maybe that other one is only during peak hours or events? The former feels super safe, I think the larger regular lot feels odd because of the trailers/buses that block your sight and the fact that it slopes away from the casino, so it really feels isolated.

What the man said about Walmart is true though, they're probably just as, or more, likely to be grounds of a crime. Lots of people go to the casino and they do somehow manage to LOSE money, not gain money.

In this morning's OC Register: "Woman coming home from work stabbed" - http://www.ocregister.com/news/woman...acon-work.html

They don't mention which casino....

I guess you didnt see the news. Commerce casino employee gets followed home and stabbed. A black sedan races off from the scene. She had a large undisclosed amount of currency. Im starting to feel unsafe playing at commerce. The armenian mafia is nothing to be played with. Im thinking about getting a concealed weapons license. It may not be possible. But since black friday playing poker we have to play live. Online you never have to worry about getting robbed or stabbed. Im starting to hate this profession. Or maybe i just need to move from la. Sad day for the comm.

So she was carrying a decent chunk of change then? Was hoping it wasn't a tip off/just random. I never feel unsafe leaving Commerce/Hawaiian but there have been a decent # of issues in the parking lots as far as I've heard. I'm going to valet from now on and just hope that's good enough.

Well most of the incidents are people getting followed home. Valet is not the answer if you ask me. Everyone sees you get in your car. It sucks worrying about looky lous who eye your huge stack.

Can't worry about it though, with the amount of people who walk out of there with money every day it's not even close to an issue. That'd be like worrying about shark attacks while surfing, just not realistic. I'd put my glock under my seat but i'd hate to have a shady Valet come across it.

is it seriously not as obvious as i think it is when some car follows u all the way home from the casino, and im sure it is not uncommon for people to drive 30-60mins home, freeways, and surface streets, i mean come on really??

p.s. know a reg at another so cal casino that got hit with pipe and robbed in commerce parking lot, place is ****ing sketch.

Thats crazy, everyone in LA knows the action is at the comm, so alot of shady dudes in black sedans case the place. They also know the parking lot is full of witnesses and cameras. And yeah, they are good at following. I wish i lived in vegas. At least all the baller capable players dont play at one place.

I was just in vegas and it was was my first time playing live, so I was pretty paranoid just walking with my winnings to my hotel (sad I know but first time playing live) I kind of wanted to check out the commerce but people keep complaining how bad the area is. I haven't been to any LA casinos just a few in san diego arena like pechengas and I feel very safe walking to my car at 3am around those. I will probably check it out during the day see what all the fuss is about

You don't know WTF you're talking about. Have you even been to Commerce more than 4 times in your life? It's a big, crowded place with all walks of life, but "shady dudes in black sedans casing the place?" The Armenian mafia out to get you? You've been watching too many movies.

YES there have been follow-homes and YES you could get rolled in the parking lot but if you're living your life afraid of that, you're either too paranoid for your own good and/or you don't have the ability to be cognizant of your surroundings. And I don't care how "good at following" someone is, if they manage to follow me the 20 miles to home, I'll notice because I can actually pay attention.

Go ahead and move to Vegas, nobody ever gets robbed there.

anyone that tells you that is either extremely sheltered or just making things up. the commerce is NOT in a "bad area." security patrols the parking lot regularly and the parking lot is also well lit at night. i have never felt unsafe at the commerce. and if anyone was afraid to leave with their winnings, all they would have to do is request a security guard to escort them to their vehicle.

i play at the commerce, hustler, hollywood park and the bike regularly. less frequently i play at hawaiin gardens. security has never been an issue. the only casino i have played at and didn't feel comfortable was at crystal park. it wasn't that the casino is located in compton. the security seemed to be lacking and the venue not kept up very well so i no longer go there. things have happened at casinos on occasion as they do anywhere else. but saying you don't want to go to the commerce because you've heard something happened to someone is like saying you don't want to walk into your local bank because it got robbed several years ago.

Commerce isn't as bad as everyone makes it out to be (AFAIK). Although, I've had a friend (former employee) say there are a lot of sketchy people / drug dealers.

Personally...I've never felt the need to run to my car, although, I've never cashed a large amount of chips that would grab people's attention.

If you're a little nervous, check it out during the day and see the neighborhood. Go down the street and check the Citadel outlets!

Does anyone know if players can ride on the shuttle? I've seen it drive around the lot, but I've always assumed it's for Casino personnel only.

I would assume that any place where emotions are built up (tilt), cash is involved, and shady people may hangout, then opportunities for bad things to happen do arise. So, I wouldn't say it's just a "Commerce thing" -- it would be the same in any other location so long as the variables are similar.

I agree that they are mostly empty. However, I forgot where I parked today, so while taking the grand tour of the parking lot I noticed that both security towers were manned.

Not sure if its standard but the I had to park by the employee lot last weekend and one of the shuttle drivers stopped and offered me a ride, but I passed.

I think a lot of the rhetoric is just folks trying to protect the stock from being over-farmed - because it's seriously funny how all these stories get passed round and round (yep, heard the mafia one too).

"That's the Truth, Truth!" (to quote that TV commercial)

On a more serious note - if anyone WAS following anyone home, if they're more than a two-bit impulse criminal, you can be pretty sure they ALREADY cased you. So that time you thought someone followed you and they didn't get off on your exit - next time there will be another vehicle waiting outside your house. It's not even that criminals are that savvy, but to the extent it exists, it's probably more of a network, not one person casing, following, and robbing. (My point isn't to sound like a know-it-all - just saying, you can NEVER be too careful or sure of your surroundings.)

Everybody around here's a hustler... Valet'd my car 2x now per advice itt and they won't take it to the 2$ lot insisting that they have to park it up front in the 5$ vip lot bc it's a "nice car". All this while they're carelessly leaning on my open car door and trying to sell me on their 120$ full detail special.. Also their sign says 89/n for fri sat OR sun during the 405 shutdown. Tried to book fri and sat and they're telling me I have to book fri sat AND sun to get the special rate.

+1 eco74. Sigalert showing route to commerce smooth as a baby's butt, and prob less traffic than your typ sat. Meanwhile I'm trying to bluff fish after being stuck a lot at the tail-end of a 12-hr sess which I'm forcing myself to play bc I booked thru sun and there's nothing else to do in this boring awful place. Wish they had a strip club next door...

Not sure if you were checking in while valeting your car, but if you were, they won't give you the $2 rate if you are staying in the hotel. It's $5/day and you get in/out privileges.

And another +1 to eco74. Think im heading down to OC today. Sigalert looks so yummy green.

Tried getting 2$ lot 2x when I wasn't staying at the hotel and they were adamant about parking it in the 5$ lot. Didn't want to fuss about 3$ bc then they'll just be careless and scratch up my car (already dealing with a stressful dmg claim with the auto transport co that carelessly shipped my car out to LA). 6$ each time not what I hand in mind + potential of dealing with another dmg claim so prob just get a box and never have to walk out with $..

Sucks about your car. Good thing my car isn't nice enough to get special treatment.

Getting a box will be difficult at best. I've tried tipping hundreds and can't get one. But you never know. Otoh Player's banks are easy to get and free.

But seriously, I've walked out of there with tons of dough and walked to the furthest reaches of the parking lot and never felt worried.
