FYI: Commerce is launching a new game...pretty much an equivalent of the $40-game

2/3, $80 min/max (buy-in) -- 26BB

Great an even smaller short stack game. Great tournaments, ****ty cash games. FTW!

If you're near or north of the 10 and more west than east, the trip to Hustler is pretty much exactly the same distance as the trip to Commerce. A bit easier to get to though. Closest place remains Hollywood Park, and that's highly unfortunate.

I'm in W. LA/Santa Monica and have done the drive to each place roughly 12406574 times and even when the 10 is completely farked it's still faster than trying to take surface streets. Opposite is true of the drive to Hustler- bypassing the 405 largely works. Motorcycle would help either of course, but I don't have a death wish.

In my eyes, the "500" game has gotten very nitty over the last 6-9 months and the ratio of regs to fish has gotten far worse. On the flip side, perhaps this is me just learning who all the regulars are.

Don't get me wrong, the games are still fairly good but I don't think they're nearly as juicy as they once were. (I only play the weeknight nights fwiw)

I also saw people mention the excessive table changes and yes, the number of people bouncing tables is absurd. I know one or two guys who rarely spend more than 30 minutes at a given table.

Also was disappointed to learn how the floor would move people from certain tables because someone requested it and they pass it off as a must move table. (Tight players get the floor to move an arggo player to another table etc)
The new nittiness is likely a combination of three things:

1. Black Friday bringing more good players into the room

2. The continuing deevolution of poker in general, that's been occurring over the last couple of years

3. An anecdotal observation based on a small sample size

I haven't played the 5/10 since before Black Friday but even then it was getting tougher (my play in the game goes back to the beginning, about 3 years). That's just poker these days.

Yes, people table-change a ton, you get used to that. Those guys are usually rocks and often terrible, and they table-change so they can rathole whatever they've won. Just got to roll with it.

As for people buying in for the minimum and nitting it up, that'll happen whatever they call the game. There just isn't as much of a loose and spendy player pool these days.

Damn, that's brutal. I'm down in the South Bay, so Hustler is perfect for me if I just want to play 5-5.

Yeah, don't get me wrong. Some of those mass table changers are terrible players but anyone can run hot in poker which strokes their confidence that they're somewhat of a legitimate player.

I was chatting with one of the regulars and he tells me, "in the long run, nobody wins at this game". I just laughed.

How deep does the 10-20 game play now on the weekends?

Can anyone please tell me if the $5/5 PLO8/Crack/5 card BigO game is still being played at Commerce? If so, do you have details of the min/max buy-in and when the game is being played?

Thanks!

I can't find this, got a link? Are they still keeping the $100 2/3 game?

Played at the Commerce, huge rooms many table and stakes. It was bit over whelming for a guy who plays in mostly single table rooms. The only real thing I didn't like was the pay to have Valet park my car besides the tip. LA is the only place I have had large Casino's charge for Valet service. If I play in the LA area it will be way too soon.

Unfortunately, I don't have the link. Just log-in to their Facebook page and look at their recent posts (it isn't too old).

AFAIK, they're keeping the $100 2/3 game. A couple Facebook users did complain by stating that the $100 would be killed.

Yeah, it's not in Vegas so it isn't free. It's still a cheaper valet than any other valet in LA. Are you really going to get upset over $2?

If you don't want to pay the $2+tip you can always park in the regular lot and walk. Its about a wash time wise (slower getting in, faster leaving)

I was kind of scared leaving at night, even with the security pickup truck driving.

Here is an example of a typical hand at Commerce. $3-$5NLHE, 5 guys limp for $5 and the button raises to $35 with AK. The blinds fold but the 5 limpers suddenly have $35 hands and call like dominos. The flop comes Kh9h7c. Action checks to the button raiser who bets a ridiculous $50 dollars into a $210 pot. 2 guys call the $50. The turn is a 8s. Action checks to the raiser again who bets a whopping $100 into a $360 pot. 2 guys call. River is a 6h. First guy checks. Second guy shoves. The button cry calls with his AK. EP cry calls with 109o and MP turns over Jh3h and says "I was sooted." MP stacks up his chips and yells out "table change!"

I think there might be a poker rate that is cheaper if you play a certain amount of hours but im not sure. other than that there is a motel 6 in Whittier about 5-10 min away that i have stayed at a couple of time while grinding on the weekends. its not luxurious but i didn't have any problems with it and its $50 a night, but I would never really recommend any motel 6 unless it was a loosing night and you wanted the cheapest. other than that there is a super 8 right down the street that is a step up and a little closer and nicer for like $75-80 dollars a night that i have also stayed at. id stay there if its within your budget. I live in Orange County now and don't spend the night up there anymore.

There's a Doubletree at the Citadel shopping center a couple blocks down the street. Not sure the rates are any better though: http://www.yelp.com/biz/doubletree-l...ce-los-angeles

Plenty of lodging choices in Downey, about 10 minutes away. That would be the nearest area I wouldn't feel totally skeevy about staying in (other than the aforementioned Doubletree).

Do not discount the value of being able to go down the elevator and immediately play. Or go to your room and take a short break.

Pretty sure Casino rate (you need a floor to get this rate) is $109 not 100% sure buts its around there.

I've stayed at the Doubletree down the street and the Embassy Suites in Downey, those are the best other options.

I was able to get $90/night Friday and Saturday at the Hilton Garden Inn Montebello on Priceline but with fees and taxes it came out to around $100/night. Pretty good deal if you ask me. Try naming a lower price, maybe $80, for the days you're staying.

It's prob worth paying a little xtra at commerce so you don't get robbed on your way back to some sketch motel.. Also what sportbettor said.
