If it's a flat rake, shouldn't I just shortstack at the highest limit that my trip bankroll can afford?

Where are you seeing $8 and $7? Rakes at Commerce and Bike range from $5-6 for most NL games, and the 10/20 is time-charged at $10 per half. I feel like the buy-in limits have been covered around here.

Seriously - the $1/$2 game has a max buyin of $40? The $3/$5 game max buyin of $300?

Please tell me that isn't true. Please.

I'm pretty sure that isn't true.

The 3/5 is $200

But the 1/2 is $80 so that's better right?

I contacted Commerce Casino for basic information such as rake and buy-in limits which they neglect to post on their website. They replied that the lowest NL game is a $40 buy-in, the blinds are 1/2 and the rake is $3 per hand. I think they forgot to mention the $1 BBJ so the actual rake for the $40 buy-in is a flat $4 for ANY flop, no matter how small the pot.

This is approximately $120 rake/hour or 30% of the total maximum buy-ins on the table! Are Los Angeles players that dumb that they keep playing in Commerce's unbeatable 40 BB rake traps, including 3/5 and 5/10 ($400)? The minimum playable buy-in is the 5/10 $500-$1500, but I didn't bring that big a bankroll on this trip with my family, so my first choice to play is the 2/3 $100-$300 at the Bicycle instead.

Is there an echo in this room? Been covered ad nauseum in this thread.

It comes up as people come to Commerce for the first time or like me the first time to play in a long time. I'm seriously debating on not playing even though I'll be there for work. Next time I get an interview I'll ask about these ridiculous structures.

It's typical Los Angeles short stacked poker. While it's not ideal, it keeps the fish coming back to the casinos. Somewhere in this thread there is a discussion about the stink that players put up when Commerce tried to change the $40 buy in game to a $40-$100 game. Just remember - most are there to gamble, not to *play* poker.

If you want to pay full buy in, you might look at the Bike's 2/3 $100-$300 buy in. I think the Hustler also has a low stakes 100BB game. Some of the San Diego casinos do as well if you want to drive that far.

Then don't play there. I'm not a fan of the structures either but I'm getting seriously tired of all the carping about it around here, which does seem to keep popping back up like a groundhog. They have good reasons for doing what they do, and the players who play the games obviously like playing them. If you don't, there are other options.

I'm 99.85% sure this is wrong and the $400 buyin game would be easy to beat

Is there any place online that has a live listing of the current games being offered at Commerce, sort of like what Borgata offers here?

There isn't. Commerce is fairly LOL technologically. However, you can count on any game they regularly spread to be going at pretty much any time.

I understand you have to tip to get anything done in the high limit floor. Can anyone elaborate on how much they tip and what for? Also how do I get a room there when its busy?

I'm not sure what it is you're suggesting you need to tip the floor for. What do you include in "anything"?

Not among the things in life worth worrying about.

Who's the Asian chick with the huge rack that plays 200NL and sometimes 500-1500? I used to see her there almost every time I played about 6 days a week.

I was at the Commerce last week; saw several Asian ladies, but all the racks I saw seemed to be standard size, large enough to hold 100 chips each.

no, this girl has a rack much bigger than those other Asians. 2 maybe 300 chips worth. And by that I mean she has huge boobs.

Going to LA in a couple of months and will probably play at Commerce a couple of times. It's been a while since I've been there, so I'm wondering what has changed:

1. What's the poker rate these days for a room? Do you still get it the same way (i.e., asking floorperson to call).

2. What's the deal with this player's card I'm hearing about? Do you need to now get comps to get food in the high stakes area, or is the food still free?
