I have an awesome story that happened at the bike on wednesday 20th of oct.

It was the highest NL game running 5/5 with a bunch of props and a fish. I lost a stack to a flopped straight on a 864 board against a reg named Vnny Vinh with 75o after a 8x pfr. Okay, fine. For those who don't know vinny (I didn't), He somehow won 2.4 MIRRION dollars in tournament winnings. I'm sure he sold most of that action and is near busto, but still, the man made 2.4MM dollars. here's his wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vinny_Vinh

Anyway, I win a stack back on him on a K4255 board where I stacked off on the turn with KJ cuz I thought he was bluffing, he claims to have K2 and I sucked out on him. okay, whatever. Now he's back to his original stack and I have doubled him. A couple minutes later he loses his stack to a fish who sucks out on him. I tell the fish nice hand.

This is when he went absolutely insane. He started glaring at me non-stop as if he wanted to fight me. I was sitting to his immediately left. I'm an average 5'10" 190 lb guy who played a little bit of sports in high school. He's 150 at most and ~25 yrs older. It escalates when I lose a pot to a reg KK vs AA and he asks to see my hand. Then he proceeded to continue to berate me about stacking off with KK. A couple hands later I asked to see his losing hand and he tells me how I need to go back to school and am nowhere near his poker level. I lol'ed and he challenges me to heads up 10k with 100-200 blinds. He threatens to "BEAT ME in the F***ing face" when I called him a moron. This continues for a minute of two before the floor came. The ruling was I can't call him a moron and sent me away for a round of blinds.

This is why I'm ambivolent about live poker, even though I love it. This is a great opportunity to not interact with a loser like that. Jus tlike apologize and as him to please not comment on your hands etc. or whatever. But yeah that sounds ****ty man

Edit: Also if the floor just let him go on being an ass to other customers just because he's a regular or whatever jus don't play there I guess... I mean that just doesn't sound safe. I've been to the Bike before at the $40 table (lol), and there were like drunk mexicans makin a scene with their friends right behind etc. etc. just lke unclassy joint in general, but it can be a good time i guess if you avoid the *******s.

The Bike is definitely a little more...diverse...and that usually creates a more hostile dynamic.

Also Vinnie had/has a huge meth problem, which is why he looks much older than he is. When he finished 2nd in a WPT I believe he was actually kind of chubby, now he's rail thin.

I prefer Commerce because everyone is too miserable to get mad. Also I play stud, so old people are a lot easier to deal with than younger people with egos.

The South Bay is nice in my opinion. I've lived in Torrance before and it's a good combination of "affordable" rent and good neighborhood. You can find a 1 bedroom around $950-$1200.

So I haven't been to the commerce in a year but I'm coming next month to visit my family.

First card room I've ever been to where the max for 1-2 NL was $40.

A previous post stated that they have since changed this to $60 max.

What's their policy now?

The $60 game rarely launches. Everything else is the same. CA small NL structure sucks large equine male mating units.

lol I see.

As I recall though if you do play it snug and double up, it's nice to push around and start stacking people. They should at least change the max to 100, even though it should be 200. sdrd

This is what I love about live poker!! I'm so glad to see LA poker is still LA poker....Bay 101's Google programmers would never threaten to punch you. I so miss the possibility of getting into a fight with a 120# asian. Seat open?

Those games exist with bigger blinds resulting in a comparable shovefest.

IMO, the best bet is to choose the max you are most comfortable with and only play on a new table where the playing field is truly level. Occasionally, a poker game breaks out!

My advice is to live SD county where you can actually buy in for 200 bbs.

That's pretty far from LA though. . . The commerce is a 15 min drive from where I'm staying. It would be nice to buy in for 100bbs even lol.

Then just go to the Bike or Hustler.

gentlemen, i plan on visiting the commerce casino sometime during december and i had a few questions.

1. can i get a room comped for a few days or is that out of the question? if not, where are some local cheap spots?

2. should i rent a car or cab it up everywhere? (leaning towards car)

3. what games are spread? dont bother mentioning limit hold em games or 1/2 nl...im confused with the concept of "500" game? is it 5/10? i dont get it. also are there any mixed games???? <<<most interested something around 10-20/ 40-80?

4. where should i go out to for fun time at night?

thanks in advanced

It's not like some regular casino where you play a bunch of slots and they comp you. I believe they have a poker rate though. Otherwise, the closest place is the Doubletree down the street.

You absolutely have to have a car in LA.

NL games are typically referred to by their buyin. The $500 is a $500 min/$1500 max buyin with 5/10 blinds. Don't know about any mixed games, never seen them spread at reasonable stakes.

I don't think they offer comps. If you have a player's card, you get a discount on the room. I think it's $20 off the $149/night rate. It is pricey. It's an okay room. It's the convenience factor that makes it very very nice. Best games are around 3 am IMHO. Food is cheap and pretty good in the casino.

Renting a car is a good idea if you don't stay at the casino hotel. Especially since it seems that you plan to do things other than poker. Dunno what that would be though.

There are some cheaper hotels in the area. A Super8 down the street. You'll save around $200 staying there compared to the Commerce hotel. A buddy found another cheap hotel in the area for even less. Google for hotels in the area of the casino.

+1

While I generally don't like live poker in L.A., the cash games at the Commerce during the Classic are pretty sick.

No commission when betting the banker. And I believe there is a bonus bet that pays like 40 to 1 or something.

How do they get their edge back if there's no commission? I'm guessing the bonus bet is that 'dragon bet'. I saw people with the 'dragon' hats. Really puts a new meaning to 'chasing the dragon'

the rule at commerce is you can buy in with $40 if u bust out, you can re-buy with $60. same thing at the $100 games(rebuy $160 or $150)
