The max rake is no different at Commerce than most places. Its a $5+$2. The difference is that they rake the entire $7 once a flop is dealt. At least they do at 5/5. I didnt play 1/2 there so I'm not sure how that works.

At 5/5, if there is 1 limper, the SB calls and the BB checks, and someone bets the flop and gets no callers, the entire $7 is raked and the winner gets $8 of the $15 pot. However, that rarely ever happened when I was there. There's more than enough action compared to just about everywhere else Ive played for the rake not to be a worrying factor at all.

Close, but not quite. It's actually 6+1.

1+1 is taken out preflop no matter what. Then another 4 on the flop, and 1 on the turn.

OK, I guess its $6 +$1 but the scenario I described happened twice when I played there. They took the entire $7 out of a $15 pot when there was no turn card dealt.

Its also apparently why they allow you to chop even after there is 1 limper. At least that's what they told me, when I asked how you can chop after someone has already limped.

Either way, even though smaller pots are raked more than any other place Ive played, I dont see it as a huge deal because there are very few small pots in that zoo.

That's just dealer mistake. Which happens quite a lot at Commerce.
Especially when the game is short handed 6 or under players and
dealers don't pay attention and over rake still.

6 players= $4 + $1 (if hand sees turn) + $1 jackpot= $6 max
5 players= $3 + $1 (if hand sees turn) + $1 jackpot= $5 max
4 players or under= $2 + $1 (if hand sees turn) + $0 jackpot= $3 max

How the heck does a post limper chop work? Do all three have to agree? I will almost always chop with 6+ on the table and often with fewer, but once I voluntarily put in money, ain’t no chop coming that I agree to.

Yes, all 3 have to agree. No different than all 2 having to agree for a "normal" chop.

5/5 game, only one limper. After the flop you are playing for $9. Does it seem profitable to not chop to you?

I am not going to face that choice very often. Not going to limp open very often much more a fold or raise kinda guy. Sure the rake structure sucks...all the more reason to open raise.

I don't open limp either, especially in these high rake games. However, you will find yourself in the blinds in this situation quite often.

Planning to play there for 1 month, do you guys know where should i look for monthly rental apartment/house/condo near the commerce ?

I see most of the people renting hotel, but i can't afford paying 100$+ per day for 30 days.

and what makes u think theyre going to rent to a poker player or to someone who wont want at least a 6 month lease, and has a high paying job and excellent credit instead of someone who says i win money at gambling, please take my word for it. and i wont stay more than 1 month.

thats what airbnb is for but its not really any cheaper than a hotel. unless u are sharing rooms in the ghetto with street trash.

LA's probably not for you then.

I heard that Commerce is spreading that new Five Card Hold Up game.

Any feedback about how it's going?

Thanks!

Look earlier in thread for suggestions. I don't know what DoubleTree charges nowadays but back in the day I was able to get it for somewhere in the low to mid $2000s per month. By renting there for a month or more, you avoid city/county hotel tax, which is a big part of the hotel fee every night, obviously.

I also have contacts who rent out studios on a monthly basis near Studio City which isn't too far for the times you'd be driving but they're going to be right around $3k a month.

Your best bet is to look for a lease takeover or just sign your own lease. You will always pay 30-100% more per month doing a month-to-month lease! Or just sleep in your car and join the Gold's down the street, get some exercise and your daily shower routine going on there for cheap.

Going to be in LA in the nest few weeks... I will be staying at Disneyland and looking to get out and play poker once or twice while I'm there.
I have always gone to the Commerce from Disney.

Is there a better choice for me as far as easier to get to and/or better games? I find the buy in structures, the drive to get there, and the neighborhood it is located in make the Commerce less than ideal but it's all I know in LA and would appreciate any alternative suggestions... Thx in advance

Disneyland is convenient to Gardens (closest), Commerce (about 5 minutes further) and the Bike (about 5 more minutes than Commerce). Times of course not during rush hour.

What games/stakes do you play?

I will be in LA next weekend. I play deep 2/5 and 5/10. What are the options? Does 5/10 run daily at Gardens and Bike? Does 5/10 at Garden and Bike play bigger than Commerce? I only played once at Commerce a few years ago. How big does 10/20 play at Commerce? Does 2k buy in consider as short stack at table?

Commerce 5/5 is 300-500
Gardens 5/5 is 300-600
Bike 5/5 is 1k max

Gardens gets 1-2 5/10 most days, but in my opinion the 5/10 games are better at Commerce. 500-1500 buyin at both locations. Bike doesn't get 5/10 all that often but from what I hear when they do it is juicy.

The 10/20 at Commerce usually has a mix of shortish stacks (1-3k) and very deep stacks.

Gardens has been getting a 5/10/20 (500 min no max) going semi-regularly lately and it is usually a pretty juicy game.

Gardens and Commerce both have their own apps you can download to see what is running, and Bike uses Poker Atlas. I would recommend downloading all 3 apps.

Good luck!

You’ll want to play 2/3 (300 cap) at Bike or 5/5 at Gardens (closest, 600 cap) or Commerce (500 cap).

Play the Garden’a 3/5 game $300 buy-in in the nicer high-limit room. With the outrageous CA $7 drop the 2/3 game is pretty hard to beat. 2 callers and the blinds see a flop and there is now a total of $5 to play for. It’s sickening.

The food is pretty delicious at Gardens. I’d recommend the Korean Lunch Box or the just the Boneless Galbi or the Lobster Ravoli. Also if you play in the main room and ask the floor they will uber you back to your Disneyland area hotel for free. Hope you have a nice trip with the family man.
