Very strange. I called a few weeks ago and was told the Crown Plaza at Commerce doesn't offer a poker room rate. I called the casino, and that's the answer I got. Would love to know if anyone else gets a different response.

There are times when the rack rate is high and you'll want the poker room rate, but IME that is the exception rather than the rule. In the past few trips I have made over the past few years, the best rate I could get online was the same as, cheaper than, or at worst within a couple bucks of the poker rate (which is not all that cheap to begin with, it was $129 the last time I got it), so I usually just do that, particularly if there is a chance I'll want to go sightseeing, visit with friends, or do other things that might interfere with my poker playing time.

YMMV. But to get the poker rate you generally have to play 6+ hours of 20/40+ while clocked in with your card, then ask the floor to set it up for you, and hope that they're not too busy/lazy to do it. I can't recall if you have to ask them to do each day separately (I think that was CAZ, not Commerce) or if they will set up your whole stay (long hours and/or a decent tip might make this more likely). At least that was my experience several years ago when I got one. As mentioned, the past few trips I've just booked it online at a similar rate.

Here is a post I made about it in 2011: https://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/1...l#post28475048

I just looked and they're doing a promotion for about $147 a night with the taxes but you have to pre-pay (not a poker room rate). Does anyone know if the hotel will allow me to use comp dollars to refund any of it?

I highly doubt you will be able to use comps to offset hotel rate, especially if you pre-pay.

Thanks for the help guys. Ended up staying the weekend at Commerce. Not a bad hotel, not great, as others have said. The first room they gave me smelled like smoke pretty bad so I asked for another room and it was fine. They don't do comps as others have said, but you can ask for a voucher for your comp points, and give that to the hotel for a reduction, so not terrible. The poker rate was $6/night less than booking through Southwest, so they switched me to that. Southwest doesn't make you pay up front, you pay at the time of check in, so I get the Southwest points, and then used my travel rewards credit card to get points through that and got the poker rate discount.

Games were great, played mostly 20/40 except 8/16 on Sunday night. I've never seen anything like these players mostly at 8/16 was the worst. 20/40 especially on Saturday was maybe a little rude but not bad. Flipping up cards when folding without any care or warning, other languages at the table, rude to dealers etc. Very loose/aggressive play which was great but OMG. One guy was literally watching porn on his phone directly to my left, with the volume off at least. At first I thought maybe it was just a scene from a movie, nope. He made a decent effort to cover it up at least.

I played in a tournament Sunday at the Bike, didn't realize would get 700 people when I entered it. Obviously much nicer casino and better conversation/nicer players.

I ordered food to my 10-20 no limit table Saturday night . They would not give me a to go box for my left overs nor would they let me bring my dish up lol. Bizarre rule because they are separate and want people to order from room service , which had been closed for 2 hours . Commerce can be the twilight zone sometimes.
The games were great . 60 120 LH was juicy and had multiple player play over 24 hours . I wish LA didn’t suck so bad , I would move there to play .

I fled the smoke in the Bay Area and played at Commerce for a few days. It's been a while since I've been there.

The top section is smaller and sadder, what with the encroachment of table games. I used to play a lot of 20-40 and 40-80 LHE there. There were only two tables of each running when I was there, with open seating.

These days I'm playing NL, so I was in the main poker pit with all the other animals, playing 5-10 NL.

Anyone here wired money to their player's account at Commerce before? What's the procedure?

Took a break for a bit and deposited my whole bankroll into my online savings and I figure a wire is a lot easier to get going again than transferring like $30k to my local bank and trying to get cash.

In case anyone is wondering in the future:

You have to call the Commerce. They will make sure that your player's bank is setup to allow wire transfers, and then email you the wire transfer instructions. The amount must make sense for the limits and games you play.

wasup, I live in LA so I only know live poker. I recently turned 21 but have been playing at Commerce for a while. I tend to play their 100 and 200 nl tables (2/3,3/5), sometimes theres microstakes limit games. Recently began playing big o and stud. Im use to grinding alone but after a while it got boring..I would like to meet other players around the area to share results, strategy, and other poker related stuff. Feel free to reach out, Im always down to play at any home game or nearby casino

What stakes Big O is running at Commerce consistently nowadays?

The 4-8 and 8-16 games seem to always be running. I'm not quite sure about the bigger limits.

Does anyone know if they are still running that 10/20 nl 600 min buy game? I haven't been there for like 5 plus years and thinking about going out there.

Traveling to LA for the first time, staying near the Bike & Commerce. From the east coast and used to playing 2/2 PLO with a $5 bring in, $200-$700 buyin, where I buy in for $700.

5/5 PLO plays usually 5/5/10 here with $500-$2000 buyins. This game is too big for me.

I see on commerce site they spread a 100-400 PLO and a 500-1500 PLO. Can someone share with me the average stacks for the 100-400 PLO? A lot of min buys or a lot of max buyins?

What are the blinds for the 100-400 PLO game? Is there a $5 bringin?

Do you know of a casino with a PLO game with a $500-$1000 max buyin in the LA area, that runs regularly? Thank you for your help!

The 100-400 PLO is a nit fest and plays really small.

It also doesn’t run nearly as often as the 5/5/10.

Hi all due to be in la for most of April for vacation - I go quite a lot but always seem to miss any large poker festivals (for example missing lapc by a few days every year). So
I certainly am not planning a trip around any sort of poker - would just like to have an option to play a little while I’m there. Are there any decent mid-high stakes mtts anywhere in la after lapc? Preferably dailies or turbo type 1-2 day events. I’m guessing not after googling but thought I’d ask here anyway. Also where’s best for 2/5-5/10nl I usually just go to commerce but absolutely hate it and regret the times I go as soon as I walk in.

Idk about tournaments but you can find good 5/5 games anywhere in LA. Hollywood Park, Hustler, Gardens, Bike, and Commerce. Commerce is the place for 5/10 but at peak hours you can find one table of 5/10 at most places

Don't confuse an aggressive wild game with being a good game.

have not been there in a while, but sometimes in the past (over a year ago or two) they used to have a mix plo but usually they played high only. most of the people had more than the $400 max, some with well over $1000 or $1500, and i was the only one buying in $100 and they hated it. but how else can u get an edge in PLO as high variance as it is, without buying in for less? also, most of them were only waiting for a higher stakes table, so they played very loose and had tons of chips. was by far the only low stakes game u would easily beat the rake in because in most other games, the max buyin for $1-2 blinds was way too low and in $2-3 blind holdem games, the rake too high. id highly recommend it

Actually I screwed up on flight, should have booked one week before rather than 3 weeks before. Paid $900 instead of $700-725. Thought it would get more expensive as it got closer to Xmas. Wrong.

Room is nice. Wish they had a fridge so I could have milk, yogurt, blueberries stored for the week.

Action at Commerce has been good at the $5/$5. Also did the rounds to see the new Hawaiian Gardens. Will be doing Hollywood Park and Bike next but they seem to have lot less action early during the day.
Just a thought here....you guys are paying the most insane rake around and are arguing about a couple dollars difference in hotel rates.

How bad is the actual rake there? How much is rake for the equivalent of $1-$2NL and $2-$5NL?

by actually being good at plo. buying in short actually makes sense for you in plo because you're so terrible at it.
