Depends on where you walk in from. I assume you mean the left is the hotel side and the smaller of the two rooms, that's where the bigger games are. You can always just look at the boards to see what games are being spread in the area.

How about some plain vanilla 4/8 from yesterday? I don't have nicknames for many of my opponents, but this time on my left is the Old Turtle, a nice Asian gentleman who never sticks his neck out. PF raise = KK+! The Laker game is on TV and I've gone Ice Age cold card dead. I think I am the only guy the Old Turtle has met who folded PF more often than he did. Finally he asks me: "When are you going to play a hand?" Considering the source, the question was very funny. I told him the truth, I said: "Sir, my last hand was 23o. What was I supposed to do, RAISE?" And the I lied I said: "In fact, I've had 23o FIVE TIMES since I sat down here." The truth was it was only FOUR times.

Next hand = 62o. I flash my deuce and fold. Some laughter. Next hand J2o. I flash the deuce and fold. Next hand, 32o I show both and fold. Table is really laughing now and I say: "Sir, my 94 year old mother would BEAT ME for being a stupid child if I played those cards and she would be right, wouldn't she?" My mother is 94, but she wouldn't beat me. Table is having an honest good time over this.

I wind up winning two plus racks when my cards come in. 57o out of the small blind sets up a hard to spot str8 for a big c/r on a big pot. Then I play Q2s because no one believes I would possibly play a deuce and the flop is 22Q! Board flushes up and I again get to c/r a big pot on the river for extra $ because they all know that I don't play deuces! An honest good time @ Commerce; no sex or violence.

the 5-5 plo went on sat night - sunday. it was filled with crazy action in the first hour or so with several people busting and-or hit and running ( Amir!) i lost 2 big pots early to a 4 outer and a 5 outer. it was a pretty good game though, i just had trouble getting hands. after the table settled down a bit, everybody in the game knew each other by name except me.
we got short handed in the early morning hours and jacked it up to 5-10...then when we were 3 handed we made it 5-10-20 (straddle) for a stretch, which was fun.
playing heads up at the end, i had a freak hand that busted my opponent and the game.
i re-raised oop with AAQ4 with a suit and flopped the nut flush draw and 2 backdoor straight draws. he potted my bet on the flop and we got it in.
we agreed to run it 3 times. he showed top 2 pair and a straight draw and i had just AA, the flush draw, and backdoor straight draws. i proceed to hit the nut flush on the turn in all 3 runs !! it was sick and i cant remember ever seeing such a result.
of course once i joined a $500 game i ran like death at the north pole.

How do I get the poker rate for my room if I'm staying at the commerce? Do I just tell the floor person to call the front desk? Or is there something else that I need to do? Do they keep track of hours? If so how much do you need to play?

Tip floor and they will hook you up with a car for free. Just tip the driver well.

Floor tip + driver tip might end up costing more than the cab ride, at least to the Bike. It's only about 3-4 miles to the Bike, cab can't cost much.

In Summary - I loved the mid limit hold'em games and the hotel but was a bit surprised by the level of dealer abuse I saw.
If you were only a bit surprised, you must have been at mild tables.

as i consider the commerce my home casino, the dealer abuse is legendary. but most of the dealers are wildly incompetent.

Thinking about making a trip to LA to play at the Commerce (free flight benefits ftw).
Is there a poker rate at the hotel?
Are the SSNLH games any good? How is the caliber of play compared to a strip casino? I typically play 200 and 500NL.
Do these games play short stacked?
I have read that the 200NL game has 3/5 blinds. ugh. Are there NL games where you buy in for 100bb+?
How is the rake?
Is this the room to play in LA or is the Bike a better choice?

I am heading to the Commerce for my first trip this Saturday. Staying at the hotel. My plan is to play $5-10NL. I am getting there early afternoon. I assume that a game be going. Do they use a must move?

What is the next lowest and highest NL stakes?

What is my best bet for food at the hotel?

Any other suggestions would for a Commerce newbie would be appreciated.

Thanks!

No they normally don't have a must move. The next lowest drop would be 3//5 for 200. As far as food by commerce goes is really only the place that comes to mind 4 me is Stevens Steakhouse. But theirs a place over by the Bicycle Casino The Downy Pizza Company you should defiantly go their its known for its pastrami pizza. I will be interested in hearing how your trip have fun good luck.

I stayed at Commerce one night while I was in town. Was not impressed at all with the card room, not what I was expecting.

The $5-$10 no-limit games are fixed buy-ins: There's a $400 fixed buy-in game and there's a $500 to $1,500 buy-in game. Next smallest is a $3/$5 with a $200 fixed buy-in. Next highest is a $600 minimum (no maximum) buy-in with $10/$20 blinds.

The small stakes room is the "main" room, with about a hundred tables. All of the above games, with the exception of the $10/$20 game are played in that room, where you have to pay for your own food. The $10/$20 is played in the high stakes room, just off the hotel lobby. There food (but not alcohol) is free. The high stakes room has about 35 tables.

The food is mediocre at the casino/hotel and there's nothing very good nearby. There'll be plenty of games going on Saturday.

Rake at commerce is highest in the LA card rooms...

No matter what, they drop $2 even with no flop... after the flop those games are $5 + $1 jackpot...

bike for example drops $1 with no flop, and $4 + $1 or $5 + $1

Bike you get free food as much as you want...

Commerce you get a card and earn $ per hour that you can use towards food...

And what andy said...

Thanks everyone for the quick replies. I find it interesting that they spread 2 different 5/10 NL games. I would assume that the $400 max buy-in game is much looser and easier to beat, than the deeper game?

you get comped food at the 5/10 games in commerce

you get comped food at either the 400 buy in 5/10 or the 5-15 5/10.

I hate the lapc even though the format is awesome. i just lose lose lose or play 10 hours and min cash.
