Whats everyones take on the colorado poker championship main event structure. I'm thinking of playing in it but it would be my first big tournament.

Think 60 minute blinds will be okay with their just okay structure?

Its a glorified sattelite on day 1. Top 10% of field comes back with uniform chip stacks on day 2. Im not a fan.

Matt,

Have you ever considered running a half-n-half game? Alternating rounds of Limit Hold'em and Omaha High (could do O8 I suppose). I play in this type of game every year at Harrah's on our annual trip to New Orleans assuming I can get into it. It's very popular there and a lot of fun. $4/$8 or $6/$12 with a 1/2 kill would be my preference.

Not upset...I was confused by your comments. It's ok, I've been confused before...lol.

Happy to spread it if we get enough players. Already have the game signs for Omaha/Hold Em games. Game changes each full round of the button. Yes, I know it well and have played it tons. Usually as 1/2 NLH and 1/2 PLO, but that's in other markets. We could easily do it, just need the bodies!

Best,
Matt

Ugh this vacation is costing me more money by the day! Props to Isle and Matt for sticking to their word.

Hey Matt,

Checking to see how many tables you will be running for the charity tourney on Sunday?

If it would include O8 I would be in. I would play limit 10/20 or 8/16 or we can do 2-100 or 5-100 spread game( I would prefer this game but I am open for limit too but just something around 10/20) holdem/Omaha Hilo.
I would bring at least two players on Tuesday or Wednesday but if you want I could go for next Saturday after 3PM so if we would get another 3 we could start and others would join.

As many players registered divided by about 9 or 10? Just a wild guess.

Oh, sorry. What I should have asked is will the be a max number of tables? Or will you cap the registration at a certain number?

What if they get 37?

It's a prime number.

Sorry for the sarcasm. My point was: how would he know how many players would show up? And yes, those are actually ok questions.

Matt mysteriously deleted his post about it, but the Isle's $500 buy-in 10k guarantee got 9 players today if that helps your estimate.

So I went up and played 30/60 at Ameristar yesterday. The game was good, as I had heard, and fun to play limit again.
I was a mid stakes limit player in 2002-2005 when I switched to no limit because the games were better. Since I'm in Denver now I figured I should adjust to what is around. I plan on playing once or twice a week at 30/60 or whatever is running probably 3pm-1AM sessions.
Since I haven't played limit poker for 6 years I need to get the feel of the differences vs NL again. Definitely missed several value bets and misplayed parts of other hands. Overall I felt comfortable after a few hours of playing. I want to work at improving my limit game again, will likely start posting in the medium stakes limit forums.

If anybody wants to discuss the games/players or specific hands in these games I'd like to work towards helping each other improve their win rates in these games. Please PM me. I'm an engineer and a pretty logical thinker (with a bit of extra gamble) and I've been pretty involved with poker since 2002.

...I didn't delete it. Forum says I'm advertising so I need to keep it to Q&A here. To answer the previous question, we are set up with enough dealers to probably spread 7 or 8 games in the charity tournament. Depending on what LIVE games are already running at about 1pm, we'll gauge from there.

Best,
Matt

in a nut shell Matt, Colorado Poker rooms such as the gates and lodge its self are in no way being innovative about improving, your a new room with a ton of potential-jumpin on this board gives u a huge edge. The gates is the mtt spot now that the gilpin shut down, however even when the gilpin and gates were up and running nothing was great are is super great about playing there. I know comparing black hawk to vegas is apple to oranges but not when it comes to mtt poker, Yes vegas has volume but i think you can surpass any poker room in black hawk simply by doing what you are doing now.

Be innovative! Get the Wpt and WsopC to come to town and throw some a small series of stuff.Us 2+2ers are here to help you construct killer mtts for the players. Once i get back from Vegas im defenitly come by and see ya , btw i went up there and played in your room for a cash game love the set up love the dealers . Great atmosphere Matt Keep up the hard work

Yesterday's charity tourney at the Isle was fun and the bounties on the DJs were a great idea. There were four tables and $1,000 donated to the charity.

The structure progressions was good, but would be a little better with more starting chips or longer blind levels. But for a $100 tourney, I definitely feel like I got my money's worth.

I thought the dealers and floor staff were great. Will definitely be back.

Glad you liked it and just a note...when our regular Friday/Saturday tournaments start in June, they will have more starting chips and 30 minute limits. Glad you had fun and thank you for helping us donate money to a very worthy cause.

Best,
Matt

Cool! I will be back to check out the updated structures.

I forgot to mention the comfy chairs! The secluded room location is nice, too. It's nice not to hear slot machines beeping and blooping all day. It would be nice to have music though, have you thought about that? Like a satellite station or whatever? I always liked that about the Gilpin.

Is it closer to park in the Lady Luck garage? Or the Isle garage?

Played a 14-hour session Saturday in the new Isle room and had a blast. Agree that the staff and floor were super friendly and the games were juicy. I also love the fact that the only noise was the shuffling of chips and table chatter -- no slot noise, etc. Very nice.

My one suggestion: get real glassware instead of plastic cups for cocktails.

if you park on the third level of Lady Luck garage you can take the catwalk straight to the poker room, def the closest. If you park in the Isle's garage u will need to walk thru the casino floor and then upstairs to poker room.

We'll be adding an Omaha/8 tournament on Thursdays at 10am beginning in July. It will be a small buy-in tournament and hopefully this can start Thursdays as our "Omaha" day. Would love to have it everyday but have to start somewhere. Let's work toward a regular $10/$20 Omaha/8 on Thursday nights at 6pm.

Best,
Matt
