I'm definitely in the camp of wanting the $100 cap raised, but I don't think that'll happen anytime soon (if at all).

I can't see why an amendment to expand that limit would not pass at this point. Florida went $100 cap in 2007 and then no-limit in 2010.

If revenue from the high(er) roller market is greater than the cost of a campaign they're probably take a shot. Maybe competition from the race track and mining town locations could make this happen.

But I'm a CO politics n00b and moving to SE Aurora in 2015. Just hoping the race track passes so I have fewer hauls up the mountain.

Mr Mucket- CO calls it a NL game but only for terms of convenience, the blinds are whatever the stakes are and max bet no matter the game is $100.

Florida's cap was a cap on buy-in not bet. Seminole HR often got a 5/10NL game going and you could bet whatever was in front of you but could not buy in to any of the games over $100... One of the most ridiculous things I have ever seen.

I'm thinking of coming to the HPT event at Golden Gates in September. What is the best way to get to the casino from the airport? Are there any budget type motels near the casino ($50-60 per night)?

Thanks in advance for any helpful info.

You drive straight out of the airport and it turns into I-70 heading west. You take this into the foothills, turn right on hwy 6, and left onto 119. (follow the signs) From the airport with no traffic it's probably about 1 1/2 hrs or so. Google map it, it's easy.

The $100 limit is why I very seldom go out there to play.

I take I-70 to hwy 58, you will hit a stoplight and just go straight this is the clear creek canyon. Just follow the road straight for about a half hour and you're there super easy.

As for lodging there are no hotels anywhere in blackhawk that are not casinos. There is one lower in the canyon but I have heard horrible reviews. Also the isle is cheap but the walls are paper thin, so if you want a good nights sleep Ameristar is imo the only option albeit a pricey one.

Lady Luck's hotel is a good choice. My wife is a slot degen so we get comped rooms at either the Isle or Lady Luck. We choose LL because it is quieter. For some reason people bring their little kids to the Isle.

I was thinking more along the line of a shuttle bus or light rail. Sounds like I may need to consider a car rental.

Thanks.

From a time/money perspective, a rental car would definitely be your best option.

Hypothetically, if someone were a winning player in the 30/60 2/3 kill game, what would be a recommended starting bankroll if choosing to do it for a living. I understand this question is impossible to answer and living expenses need to be considered, but what kind of negative swings in terms of BB's are the good players experiencing in this game. Any recommendations would be helpful, just looking for an idea. My intuitive sense says around $50K and to go find a job and quit if below $10K.

The BH 30/60 game is NOT your typical 30/60 game and thus the bankroll question could not be answered as such. I dont do this for a living but as a supplement and a normal 30/60 game done to supplement income (provided you are playing with expendable money I would say 25-30k would be reasonable) would be far less than either this game or to 'make a living'. Making a living at this game given its obscenely aggressive nature, I would say a minimum of $100k. I regularly play it with a very good and winning player who I personally saw take a 60k downswing over the course of just over a month while playing good poker.

If you can play this game profitably most times the number would be lower but to make a living at it, you need to be prepared for a +$50k downswing. Just the same, while I have not experienced more than 20k downswing, I have also been riding a a 70k upswing in the last 6 months. Its big win or big loss in this one.

I appreciate the response and this is the type of comments I am looking for. Any other experiences?

Trying to do some risk of ruin and time calculations. How many hands on avg would you say I get in an hour while at the casino? The dealers at Ameristar are definitely good. Somewhere around 25 an hour?

1. I highly doubt he lost 1000 BBs in 4-5 weeks.
2. Unlikely he kept playing well while losing a minimum of 2k a day avg. every single day for a month.

I'd say 25 an hour is probably a good estimation.

I'd say 25/hr for a slower dealer, 35 for a faster dealer. Id guess high 20s for an avg.

Going to play in Denver first time ever. Any suggestions on which room has the best action and poker room rates would be greatly appreciated. I'm a woman traveling alone so I prefer staying in a casino for security reasons.

Thank you in advance.

Thank you for the advice. One more thing, how easy is it to secure transportation from the airport to Ameristar? Should I rent a car?

Thanks again.

Renting a car is probably the best option.

There's no other way to go directly from DIA to Black Hawk unless you want to take a cab and pay an insane cab fare.
