Also, how is the level of play? I'm assuming not great, but it is a higher buy-in compared to most dailies at Golden Gates, so are most players at least competent?
The level of play in the Fri, Sat and Sun noon tourneys is a little tougher than the 3pm and 7pm tourneys there. Most events at the Gates play tougher than any of the ones I typically played at the Gilpin (RIP) or have recently played at the Lodge. (The latter feels a shove-fest after just 5 or 6 levels to me.)

The Gates recently started a dealer add-on, which adds a few more chips to your deep stack, but the blind levels double on most of the levels, so it goes up fast. I don't think the Sunday noon tourney has antes, but the Friday and Saturday ones do.

I'm not 100% sure this is the current structure, but I think it's close:
30,000 chips to start (plus another 3k for the add-on?)

Level 1 - 100-100
Level 2 - 100-200
Level 3 - 200-400
Level 4 - 300-600

Level 5 - 400-800 100
Level 6 - 500-1,000 100
Level 7 - 600-1,200 200
Level 8 - 800-1,600 200

Level 9 - 1,000-2,000 300
Level 10 - 1,200-2,400 300
Level 11 - 1,500-3,000 500
Level 12 - 2,000-4,000 500

Level 13 - 3,000-6,000 500
Level 14 - 4,000-8,000 500
Level 15 - 5,000-10,000 1,000
Level 16 - 6,000-12,000 1,000

That's as far as my notes go, but hopefully it will be helpful!

Played this tourny in the end of July. It was probably one of the biggest fields I've seen for regular schedule tournaments. It sold out at 120 players. The structure was OK, level of play was pretty good. But there was no antes, so it was painfully long to my taste. Played for 9 hours, got knocked out in 18th place. Only 13 were getting payed.
According to ULTRA VIOLET structure changed. If that's the case, looking forward playing it again. A lot of player were requesting adding antes to regular tournaments. Sounds like they listend?

Can't speak for stumbras, but I can't play at GG for two reasons;

1) The dealers complain a lot about how bad they are treated. About how they never get a day off/break and management does nothing about it. It cause all the good dealers to deal somewhere else leaving sub-par dealers. I'd say of the three poker rooms is Blackhawk (Ameristar, GG, Lodge) that GG has more bad dealers than the other two combined. It's also just annoying to constantly hear the dealers complain.

2) If I'm in their poker room for more than 2 hours, I start to get a serious migraine, and the pill dispensers in the bathrooms take my money half the time. I think I get migraines because of their heater. It smells like propane in there a lot. Bleh.

So far I like GG better.. The tables are higher up and the chairs are more comfortable imo. Propane? What? It constantly smells like food to me.

Haven't played at the lodge yet.

I agree with the complaining dealers point. It's very unprofessional and makes the room look bad.

I have no problem with decor or heaters at GG but it looks like that the room is concentrating towards tourney players. Also, all the rich casual players or rich gamblers( mostly Asians) are at the Ameristar.

This and this.

I have talked to people about getting the game going to Ameristar since I heard it is almost dead at Golden Gates. Most are not optimistic but I think the only way to find out is to create a list at Ameristar early on a Saturday before all of the tables are taken. We might be able to get some of the people from Golden Gates mixed in with some new people at Ameristar... and there are always games to play while we wait for the omaha game.

If you want a 2-5 omaha game to start on a Saturday, you better generate interest well before 3pm. All of the tables will be full by then.

i really doubt ameristar will ever start an omaha game, not even sure if they will be willing to start a list for it. unfortunately the holdem bad beat jackpot consumes that poker room and most of its players

Here's my 2 cents on this.

Any room that's worth the dirt it's built on would spread a game that's in demand by their players. If there are 6 on an Omaha list and 8 on a HE list, of course they're going to spread the HE game first if tables are in short supply. But if there's a demand for Omaha and tables available, SPREAD THE DAMN GAME! Why not? If the game breaks later, fine. Start a HE game later. The Omaha players were there earlier and wanted to play, so let them.

As far as the bad beat goes, think of it this way: A room with a big hold em bad beat crowd should love to spread a game that's not eligible for the bad beat. That's one less table that it can hit on, so it's good business. In theory the bad beat has less of a chance to be hit so the bad beat mania will continue.

It's just silly to NOT spread an Omaha game if there are players there that want to play it (IMHO).

Agreed. House dropping and no risk of bbj is win-win.

Last weekend I was on a roughly 11-12 person list for a 10/20 LHE game with a half kill, and the dealer said they wouldn't even consider spreading the game until the list was 14 people long. So I'm just going to guess that Omaha will never get spread. Just like middle limit LHE will never get spread either.

They won't even start a list for omaha. They don't want to spread any non-Holden games.

We will. Get the players together and we'll spread it any day, any time.
