Since the boards looks like it's flickered back to life, I have a question about the Colorado poker scene versus other major cities.

I'm originally from Cleveland and I've been lurking in their Horseshoe Casino thread. They have many, many more types of games being offered - PLO, HE, HORSE, and they're even talking about trying to start up Big O there!

What makes their scene more diverse in terms of games?

Is it the distance from the city to the casino, fishier players, or the max bet here?

Thanks.

$100 max bet, and it's far enough away from Denver that it's not a huge player pool(though I'd guess that it would grow if the max bet were raised or uncapped).

$100 max bet, super high rake, a long drive up in the mountains that sometimes can overlap with ski traffic, few hotel options, and a lack of anything else to do in town except for gambling (no night life, bars have a 1 drink per half hour rule). It's also a quick flight to Vegas from Denver and I get the sense that a lot of people would rather skip a few Black Hawk trips and spend a 3 day weekend in Vegas instead (myself included).

Is it even worth going to play from Boulder? I was a mid stakes reg and I'm bored as **** now. Do the 2/5 games run and are they even worth playing?

Last night I saw on the Bravo app that Isle was running "5/10 Dealer's Choice". Anyone know if that's a 5/10 fixed limit games only, or are 5/10-100 spread games in the mix as well?

That's interesting. See they currently have a 5/10 O8 wait list.

Both of these are very surprising, I didn't even bother having Isle on my Bravo favorites since nothing ever happens there. On the other hand, having a list doesn't really mean much-there's a 10/20 and 20/40 LHE list at The Lodge a lot now but it never runs (never gets beyond 4ish names).

In other BH news, I've been playing 1/2 at Lodge lately because the BBJ really brings in the fishes, it's been super-juicy. And Golden Gates has gotten 2 tables of 5/10 O/8 going every Friday, including last night, for the past several weeks. If you want to play that I recommend getting there later so you can play the "must move" table as long as possible, the main game is usually somewhat nit (and a$$hole and whiner) infested.

2/5-100 runs most days at Ameristar and lately now at The Lodge. I guess it depends what you mean by worth playing-they are beatable if that's you mean, although they are tougher than the 1/2-100, where the only 3bet you'll ever see means AA or KK. If you want lots of action there's always the 30/60 LHE at Ameristar.

It wasn't a wait list, the game was listed as running. That's why I was curious.

Anybody planning on playing in the Colorado Poker Chapionship? Satellites start this weekend - I'll probably head up Saturday.

Other than the $1000 buy-in main event and the satellites, this looks roughly like the GG regular tournament schedule. Seems kinda lame for the "state championship" to consist of exactly one two-day NLHE tournament. Maybe that just says everything we need to know about the state of poker in Colorado?!

Ameristar is really the only option if you're bringing a girl along. I'm 90% sure it's the only pool in Black Hawk, and it's definitely the only spa. To be honest it's the only place a non-gambler girl would be comfortable and mildly entertained; the rooms are pretty new and really nice. I'm sure if she explored up into Central City there would be some antique places as it's a very historic town. If not, I think I've seen antique places from I-70 just a few exits before the Black Hawk exit towards Denver. There's really no shopping at all though.

Yeah, it's sort of lame that they pretend all of the weekend tournaments are part of the event. They should just promote the main event and satellites. Or they should run different events.

TT summed it up pretty well. Ameristar is virtually the only option - and any shopping or non-gambling activities are going to be very limited up there. It's not a very non-gambler-female friendly destination.

Thanks for the detail.

Played @ ameristar on friday. Was a roller-coaster ride and learning exp. Lost most of first buy in early @ 1/2, had pocket 10's,raised pot three callers, one in position had JJ, board 10J733 later grinded up to 600 from 2nd buy in only to move up to 2/5 @ 5am and get crippled. Brought gf, she won 50 bucks playing slots, not impressed w/ extra time spent and seeing 600 evap. Over good learning experience lots of weak players, not playing well on draw heavy boards. May go back in a few weeks, beautiful drive back @ 6am.

Hi all. I'm in town for business this week and looking for the best place to play cash games. Interested in playing either 1/2 or 2/5 NL or maybe 10/20 fixed. Looking at previous posts seems like Ameristar is the best option. Is that right, or are there other/better options I should consider?

Ameristar or possibly The Lodge (there was increased activity there due to huge BBJ that just hit, but still $300K). I suggest Bravo jf you have it on your phone, both are on there. I play both as well as Golden Gates but I find the wait at Ameristar irritating and often end up at the Lodge for that reason. If you really want 2/5 more likely at Ameristar. And 10/20 LHE does not exist, only 4/8 and 30/60. Enjoy your stay.

Do ya'll think it's a place that you could build up a steady bankroll? I am not looking to support myself playing poker or anything, but would like to build up a bankroll so that I can play poker whenever I want.

Thanks for the response. And thanks for the suggestion on Bravo. Nice app, and will come in handy while I'm here, as well as after I head back home to the east coast.

Since Ameristar and The Lodge are so close together I'll probably check them both out. I find it surprising that there's such a large gap in the fixed limit games from 4/8 to 30/60. Can't imagine what people do when they're ready to move up from the 4/8 game.

Thanks again!

Via twitter -

Eugene Katchalov and Elky are playing in a $100 GG event right now lol. Katchalov tweeted he's on vacation and just having fun. I wonder if they have side bets going.
