I specifically remember doing it from the one seat and can identify with the example in the OP on this subject. Clearly this person was punished for something that was not an angle.
The main reason I don't like the rule is because it comes under the heading of be nice to the fish. If someone is learning the game and sitting at a table he/she is overwhelmed. This is a common mistake for fish, and to make them lose a bet over a technicality that only applies in this room is ridiculous.
It is not that big of a deal, but it is one of many reasons to avoid the place. A* would rather have a rule that makes the dealer's and floor decision easy - rather than standing up to the colluders and anglers while giving a pass to someone (typically a newbee) out who is making a common and simple mistake.
I'm so sick of all the "let's just let anything go so we don't scare the fish" BS. For starters, it's just so arrogantly dismissive. Get over yourself. People have to learn the rules and how to play the game in a manner that doesn't detract from it. Acting in turn is part of that.
More to the point, you have to have a rule before you can enforce it. I'd hope there's still room for judgment, and I expect that there is, when it's obviously a mistake and/or a brand new player who doesn't yet understand the rules. In this case, let it go and tell/remind the player the rule.
I agree they shouldn't just be blindly enforcing 100% of the time, but there has to be a rule or you have nothing to enforce
any fraction of the time.
