Had a really good time playing cash games up there this past weekend - really well run room and fun regs to play with.

Two bullets in the CPC main -2400
Finished up a bit in the 10/25 Saturday and 5/10 Sunday. No huge swings but fun games!

Flying into Black Hawk this Wed, hosting cash games on Thu and Fri, then playing the $1K Super Stack on the weekend. What cash games do you want to play? We're looking at doing one or two of the following: mid-stakes limit holdem (like 15-30), a mixed game with lots of variants, a BigO (5-card pot limit Omaha8), or PLO. Let me know what you think, preferably on twitter as well as here (@FossilMan and @ballysbhpoker).

Thanks, Greg Raymer (FossilMan)

What is the rake structure for Colorado poker? How many players per table? Are any comps offered?

As far as I know, all 3 of the rooms that are open 7 days/week (Ameristar, Bally's, Monarch) are all 9-handed with $5+2 rake. Comps vary room to room but all of them are around $1 or $1.50/hr. Also, Monarch and Ameristar have programs in place for discounted or comp'd hotel rooms with significant hours on the table.

I'm suppose to go there next month , what do you mean 5+2$? and the rooms you stated are rooms inside the casino? each of them contain poker tables?

i come from europe we don't have different rooms for the poker one .

Thanks! Is that in casino comps or actual cash?

Is it possible to get comped rooms playing solely poker?

Bally's has a rakeback program, but you can't pick the cash until the following week. Everything else will be casino comps.

$5 for the house and $2 for promos like bad beat, high hand, etc. The drop is the same but the promos themselves differ from room to room.

Not sure I'm following your 2nd question. Those are three of the four casinos in Black Hawk with poker rooms in them. The 4th is the Horseshoe which primarily plays $2-$10 spread limit and should be avoided at all costs.

Dan,

First, welcome to Denver, enjoy your stay.

For your second question, IIRC (I don't go up much), 3 of the 4 casinos' rooms are physically separate rooms, if that's what you're asking. Ameristar's is on the casino floor, but an area that's only separated by ropes, not walls.

And as for what does 5+2 mean, it means that the maximum rake on a hand is $5 (10% up to $5, if I remember correctly), and that there is also up to $2 taken out for the promotions fund. This money is not considered rake. It funds luck-driven promotions, such as the bad beat jackpot, high-hand bonuses, etc.

Luck, Garick???

Takes a set of stainless steel balls to hang onto 56s, one-outer in the face of withering pressure. Not everyone can measure up.....

Is anyone else surprised the $5 max house rake has remained unchanged for so long? I began playing live poker in Blackhawk in 2005 when I moved to CO from NY, and I believe the max rake was $5 back then. Just think how much labor and business costs have risen over the past 17 years. I wouldn't be surprised if it kicks up to $6 sometime in the next 2 years. It'll be tough on the 1-3 players, but not as noticeable for the 2-5, 5-10, and 30-60 players.

As a follow up to this, I've been playing at Del Lago Casino in Waterloo, NY while visiting family this Winter and their max rake is $10 + $3. I didn't notice it right away until the end of the first session when I started looking at the rake. Holy Christ! The players said it's one of the highest in the U.S. That's pretty tough to beat at the $1-$3 level..

I always wondered what the chances were to get a horse or 8 game mix cash game going up there. Do you think there would be interest for it on the weekends?

It looks like the regulation changes next week on 2/14 to allow a time collection vs. a percentage of the pot.

https://casetext.com/regulation/colo...e-2142023-rake

Section 2 is new:

Quote:
(2) At the discretion of the licensee, timed rakes may be offered on one or more individual poker tables. The timed rake may be assessed on a per-player basis or on a per-table basis. If taken on a per-player basis, inactive players seated at the table may also be assessed at the discretion of the licensee. The timed rake may be assessed either by the hour or fractionally every 20 or 30 minutes as determined by the licensee. The timed rakes collected shall be immediately placed by the dealer into the drop box. The licensee must post the type and amount of the timed rake to be collected at or near the table in which it applies to.

If I'm reading this correctly, time collection "on a per-player basis or on a per-table basis," should mean that bomb pots will be legal in Colorado. Great!

I am always down for a horse game, though my interest would be limited to somewhere between 6-12 and 10-20 limit

It would be tough to make a regular game I think. You would have to try and schedule it around an event........I think Greg Raymer was able to get one going last time he was in town.

It could go on a regular basis. But it won't unless somebody puts in a lot of time to make it happen. That means getting contact info for all interested players. Figuring out what day(s) they would want to play. Then scheduling it for those times, and staying on top of the players. Make sure they know about it in advance, then send them regular reminder texts. I've been talking to some poker rooms about becoming their full-time ambassador. This is exactly one of the jobs that would entail. I would be trying to start, grow, and maintain new games like this for a room. And to poach players from the other rooms, obviously. Everywhere else a game like this happens, it is just a local player who wants it badly enough to put in the work.

Hope we can make it happen.

Cheers, Greg Raymer (FossilMan)

5/10 runs at Monarch most evenings and pretty much all weekend (Fri - Sun) in my experience. Def check Bravo for what's running.
